Oh this movie. You know the beginning of this movie is sad but the scene that makes me tear up the most is where he’s reading the adventure book and reads “thanks for all the memories now go have an adventure of your own” 😭

Yes, it's the real emotional climax of the movie. Also, if you look closely at the scene with Ellie in the hospital you will see a tape dispenser and scissors on the nightstand - just what she might have used for adding those "Stuff I'm going to do" pages, just before passing the book on to Carl.

My wife and I watched this film for the 1st time just after we'd had a miscarriage in an effort to cheer ourselves up. Little did we know that at the start of the movie the characters go through the exact same thing. It was a moment neither of us will forget. The pain was unbelievable when we saw that scene. We managed to stick with it and watch it all the way though though and we really enjoyed it. Its one of those movies that reflects the real pain life can throw at you but also the joy of the adventures that await you afterwards.

I'm sorry you had to go through that. I've never tried to be a parent, but my mother had a lot of miscarriages before my older sister was born. I talked a lot with her about the experiences she had. It's a horrible thing. That said, this movie is baller, and I bawled my eyes out when watching it.

The opening sequence of their life is emotional of course but the one scene that crushes me every time is actually at the end when Russell is alone at his badge ceremony and before he has to explain why nobody is there to pin his new badge on, Carl shows up and so lovingly and sincerely awards him the Ellie badge, his most cherished item.😢

Up's opening scenes of telling you Carl and Ellie's entire life story is so heart-warming, and so soul-crushing, that it is amazing to think that they were able to tell it with ZERO dialog. Just world-wide recognizable images of relationships at different stages, music cues that both guide and shift the tone, and that's all you need. Storytelling 101.... Simply show, don't tell, and the audience will understand it. BUT, it is also so important to go through because it actually explains where Carl's "mind and heart" are when the actual "main story" kicks in. And it places you (the viewer) in a position to see BOTH where his determination is his best quality, AND his focus on one thing can be his WORST quality. Simply by going through the opening, Karl himself because a FULLY ROUNDED character that has his good parts, his bad parts, his needs, wants, desires AND room for growth as a person so fully mapped out that he becomes the "grandfather" type figure you WANT to have at your side for anything from just getting ice cream to going out on an adventure in the wild.

This movie does a fantastic job not just of hitting you in the feels from start to finish but it's also one of the best movies to serve as an example for setup and payoff: 1. Muntz's obsession gets introduced at the very start of the movie and it proves to be his undoing. 2. Carl gets his membership badge from Ellie and he obviously considers it an incredibly precious thing - he gives it to Russell in the end, the highest honor he could bestow upon him. 3. Ellie's adventure book gets introduced at the start, with plenty of pages left blank for all the adventures she will have - we see it filled up towards the end, by Ellie herself, and the best part is she filled it with memories of her life together with Carl, not her childhood adventures in a faraway land. 4. Carl and Ellie's house, which we've seen just how much it means to Carl from the very start - he finally gives up on it to save his newfound family: Russell, Kevin and Dug. It's satisfying to see how Carl could let go of those parts of his past that held him down, as opposed to his childhood hero, Muntz, who died consumed by his obsession and the cruel things he did in pursuit of it. Ellie's adventure book helping Carl to rediscover a reason for living was so heartwarming, she kept helping him even from beyond the grave. Thank you for this beautiful, emotional reaction ❤

@@stevenhenry9605 Carl did not need Russell's help, but the latter did not want to understand this, for which he later paid. This will teach him a lesson in humility(It’s good that Carl was humble, so he doesn’t ask anyone for anything), that if people told him they didn't need his help and weren't going to listen to him, then so be it. And don't care what he thinks about it

The beginning of this Movie hides so many messages. 1. There’s always someone for everyone does not matter how quiet or talkative you are. 2. You can find that person in the most random ways ever. 3. Life is driven by ambitions, goals and dreams. 4. It is possible to be happy with 9-5 or (regular jobs). 5. Having a something that was not planned and that is painful (her not being able to have babies) sucks… and specially for a woman that has to be so hard. I could not even begin to imagine. But He made her feel better letting her now that there are other ways to achieve happiness and he will be there no matter what. 6. Time waits for NOBODY. If there is something you want to do, better set out and do it ASAP bc if you just put it back you will find yourself having lived your whole life without making your dream come true. And you start forgetting about it little by little until it is simply too late…. This Intro is special in so many ways and it’s a montage of pure GENIUS. One of the greatest movies ever

Well, I married a girl when we were 18. Now we are 74 and married 56 years. When I was 18 I thought love was the backseat of my 58 Chevy - it takes years of going through the bad times and not giving up. When you put your partner's needs ahead of your own and they do the same - things tend to work themselves out. I am a two tour Vietnam disabled vet - my wife saved my life when I got home. I tried to self-medicate for 20 years and because of my wife I got into recovery and have 36 years Clean. Without the ladies this world would be a dirty place and us guys would be eating five day old pizza. Everything was Good until God saw that Man was alone in the garden, and He said, "This is not Good." So He created Woman. PS: A man can buy a house but it is a woman that makes it a home.

A pop culture classic that is animated in which I believe that you'll enjoy is called The Last Unicorn 1982, that is based from the book The Last Unicorn. A film I highly recommend as it has the elements that makes any story amazing that are Adventure, Fantasy and Horror but not too much, just enough to give the element of suspense. As for the reaction, it gives such nostalgia when my folks used to take my and my sisters or other family members to Disney Paris or going around different Parts of Europe when we'd go travelling in the camper van/motorhome and Stopping during the evenings to relax, have food with a film to watch together. Yeah... Good and quite nostalgic memories.

Such a beautiful movie. One of my favorites. I would strongly suggest another Disney animation called "Encanto". Yes, you'll cry, but it's worth watching. I think you both would love it. Thanks for another great reaction.

This spawned one of the best dad jokes. Rick Ainsley is notoriously stingy with his animated movie collection. No matter how much you beg him to let you borrow it, he's never gonna give you "Up."

a woman and a man building a life together.. a beautiful story as old as time itself. with the modern world and social media and material things, we forget the value of proper real relationships up is devastatingly emotionally real. a genius piece of animation

Anyone who watches the first 10 minutes of this movie and doesn't cry isn't a human.

It was the greatest first 10min of a movie I've ever seen. I bawled my eyes out, and I was a 55yo man when I saw it.
