Alex Trebek was notorious for licking things to perceive objects. It would freak out first time guests getting the back of their hand licked before a handshake. Trebek just needed to really believe that hand -- and by extension that person -- was really there. All those years of Jeopardy and answers always phrased as questions began to make the man question reality. However where his eyes and his ears began to lack confidence, Trebek's tastebuds could always be counted on. Some people questioned why he couldn't just *sniff* their hand instead but Trebek didn't live by anyone else's rules.
