I playtested maokai jg clears in practice tool my first conclusions of this champion is that he needs shimmering spark to get a 2 min ult gank otherwise you're looking at 2:15 and are very susceptible to jungle invades ESPECIALLY BLUE BUFF losing blue sets you back to a 3 minute ult which is massive considering how that impacts how many high impact ganks you can make especially when you need to have it for dragon/herald contests it's not as bad as hecarim fiddle sticks or eve ult but it is longer than nautilus ult but shorter than ammumu and rammus ult which seems a bit wrong now that I actually checked it he's garenteed 2 opportunities to ult before first obj spawn

I'm not gonna say much but..Toplane Maokai with grasp is pretty strong, it's a really good counter for ranged to planes, you can force free trades with passive and slowly chip their HP so your Q does more damage

Tip: You can cast your Ultimate sideways so that the roots will hit the enemies faster (if you wanna lock them down immediately)

Very good and in-depth guide as always, keep it up! I think tank Maokai is way more reliable than AP. Grasp for top, Glacial Augment for support and imho even for jungler Glacial > Aftershock; Hexflash is super good for support and jungler.

Fimbulwinter(tear tank item) synergized well if youre going courage of the collosus or any immobilizing item with that 🎉 If you need to you could run manaflow but i prefer scorch or item haste

Mh- I see him survive lane and being a decent setupper - not a carry pick I think Can surely cheese with jungle pre though Flash + 2nd -> into insec with 1st -> jungle free kill if anyone gets too close

I build him with rod of ages and crown and it makes me "tanky" with the amount of healing I'm doing with crowns ability to eat a sudden skill shot but truthfully a tankier build is probably the way to go.

I feel like his scalings are all too weak: basic abilities ≤50%, ult 65%. In comparison, Nautilus has 90% on Q, 40% per AA on W, 50-75% on E (if you hit multiple waves on the same enemy), and 80% on ult. Amumu has a similar story. And if these champions with a similar functionality to maokai are usually played as tanks (*usually* not always), then I think maokai definitely should build tank

What are your thoughts about Spirit Visage? On paper, it seems like it should be especially good for healing tanky champs like Swain and Maokai; however, i feel like it doesn't really fit into a build very well, with heartsteel, dawnshroud, abyssal mask/force of nature, thornmail, mantle, and twinguard all taking precedence

If enemy team has a lot of magic dmg Abyssal just does so much more :/ It fits - but you need space for it in your build and often other items will just perform better
