Nice overview, Hank, and I love that you used the King Bee II as a reference for its sturdiness. The obvious comparison would be to the Elgato low profile boom arm, which is what I use. Have you tried that? I’ve also noticed that Fifine has their own version of the Elgato boom, and it’s priced significantly lower.

I haven't used the Elgato low profile arm yet. It's been in my wish list for a long time but I just didn't want to spend the $99 on it. I didn't know that Fifine has their own version of the arm. I'm going to look that one up. They usually are great with pricing. Thank you for the great comment. I will make a note so I don't forget to lookup Fifine's version. BTW how do you like the Elgato arm?

@@FreePodcastToolsHi Hank - I love the Elgato low profile boom. The only issue I have with it is that it has to be very tightened down when set in position, which makes it a lot of extra work to loosen before readjusting. I currently have my Electro-Voice RE320 on it, and it swings away from my desk when not in use. After using this style boom arm I can't see a reason to go back to the spring-loaded ones that always seem so clunky and wonky. Next time I break out my King Bee II mic I will mount it back up on the Elgato arm and see how it holds up (literally).

@@milesian1 Thank you for responding with your thoughts on the Elgato LP Boom. It sounds pretty nice with the exception of the tightening down after readjusting. Do let me know when you put the KB2 on it if it sags at all or not.

Just remember that the weight supported isn't just the mic, but the shock mount, pop filter and any other attachments.
@FreePodcastTools11 ай бұрын
And some of these shock mounts are really heavy. What is the heaviest mic/shock mount combo you've used?

I just before christmas purchased the Rode PSA1+ which is a really great arm and strong. Im using the Maono PDX400 mic which is also quite heavy. At first i wasnt sure about a low profile arm and the Rode simply has a very good reputation but as im looking more into it im kinda thinking of returning the PSA1+ and replacing it with a low profile one. Just not sure if I want to go with the Maono or the Elgato Wave LP. Both arms seem to be pretty equal while the Maono is $20 cheaper. Only difference is the Elgato is a 1 piece design vs the Maono a 2 piece design. So im not sure how much of a difference that makes. I know way more folks have the Elgato. I hate making decisions😂

I don't think you can go wrong either way you decide. Someone posted about the Elgato having another tension point that you have to tighten. I could be mistaken but definitely look into that if you decide to go that route. So far I'm enjoying the Maono and haven't had any issue with it. I still may try the Elgato down the road just to see what it's all about.

@@FreePodcastTools I actually just ordered the Elgato. It's on sale atm for $79.95 (same price as the Maono)

@@Knifes-and-Gear-Insights nothing wrong with that. Please report back once you get it and use it for a little bit. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

@@FreePodcastTools will do. I also got a few other goodies to finalize my setup. Will mount it all tomorrow hopefully and then I'll take a short video of it and post it.

I've got an aging PSA-1 I may replace soon. This could be a contender.

The PSA-1 is legendary. I'm sure it has served you well. I really like this different style of arm for my particular desk.
