Also shows respect and honour. It's an ancient thing, though this specific dance was written in the 1830's (I think?) by a gentleman in NZ who had his life saved in an interesting way, by hiding in a potato cellar with a woman on her period squatting over the trapdoor. He wrote this as a celebration of not dying that day. Doing a dance about the triumph of life over death fits well with rugby culture, so the All Blacks continue the tradition.
