@@Mapdec cmon man you know these bike frames cost less than 1k to manufacture or specialized could not sell an sl7 with 105 for 3K. There is not much difference in the sl7 to sl8 frames and nothing you can say warrants such a leap in costs to justify the upcharge of bikes to 10 k or above. its just a way for a store owner to make 5 k on something he should be making 500 on.

Starting with the Look frame is a great idea for almost all average weekend cyclists and any upgrades to the quoted spec I would make would be the wheels - Ryots or Zipp 303 for me. I prefer mechanical groupset and cabling really doesn't bother me or make much of a difference in aero performance below 40km/h, plus its sooo much easier to take your bike on a plane when the handlebar and stem can be removed easily.

Solid build and looking bike. Cables/hoses into downtube is better then into headtube with sharp bends or rubbing against the fork. Also Zipp SL-70 Ergo aluminum bars at $100USD are terrific. Plenty of $50USD Alu seat posts to choose from. Very good case study showing what is possible when you take advantage of sales/discounts. The Mapdec special is a very good option although I wouldn't be "cycling to work" on it - way too good for that. As a comparison, I built up a TCR Advanced Pro One in 2020 (start of Covid) with R8000 mechanical/rim, Giant bars/stem and a decent pair of wheels/tubeless tyres for under £1800. My build was nearly scuppered when I couldn't get hold of a longer back nut for the front calliper. Searched high and low and eventually found one.

I'm now 34yo, 187cm, 110kg The 58cm scott addict edurance geometry frame is great at what it does. Rides smooth as butter. But it's not what I would call racy. I don't want whipet a race frame that I'll snap in half because I weigh 200 times its weight. I want a solid frame that doesn't flex when I'm sprinting and a geometry that won't leave me with a chimney. The geo on the look looks perfect, but it doesn't seem to have the stout but Still race dna I'm looking for. So I'm just going to hold off until I can touch my feet, sans breathing difficulties haha

Wonder why nobody is paying attention to the offers of Cube Bikes! The have launched their 2025 modells in September and for example offer their endurance modell "Attain C:62 SLX" with 105 Di2 at 8,7 kg for 2499 GBP.

It’s a good question. I forget about them because I see them so rarely. There is a dealer around here, but they only do the MTB range.

Nice work. That is a lot of bike for the $. Earlier this year I bought a Felt VR Advanced with Ultegra Di2, Reynolds carbon wheels, carbon seatpost, and Ultegra pedals for 2513 English pounds. It is a new 2023 model. You all did a fantastic job, but I'm pretty pleased with my new bike, too.

Hi @Mapdec I'm getting this frame at 1200 pounds. Looks like a good deal. But I just realised that this is a different geometry than the new one. I like the newer geometry with obviously a cleaner head tube and fork. Saw your review on the 2024 edition and was convinced of the bike. What all differences do you think this frame has in comparison to the previous one? In terms of the geometry and other features. I do mostly ultra distances but also race every now and then.

Does integrated cabling on a mechanical even work well?

It heavily depends on the frameset model. On a Tarmac SL7, it works fine since the shift housings don't have to bend as sharply. I've built one such Tarmac SL7 and am within the first five mechanics in my country to build a Tarmac SL7 as such.

This is absolutely not a dig at you guys (you're refreshingly honest), but it is a comment about bike industry pricing (and corporate greed ?). Back in 2016, you could get a brand new 105 mechanical equipped rim brake bike for under £1000 on the cycle to work scheme. Liz Truss' budget aside, the inflated value of £1000 then is roughly £1,350. Bike pricing has gone mad
