Those toms sound like thunderous cannons, impressive to maintain such a rich full deep tone and resonance while replacing the maple with birch. Fantastic job again by Mapex

Definitely a SATURN, the walnut comes through nicely, especially in the floor tom. I just love the sound of the maple walnut combo, but the birch brings something different and good too!

Saturns are easily some of the best consumer market drums in the world in my opinion right up there with starclassics and reference/reference pures

I’m a big fan of the Mapex Black Widow kit...it’s a fabulous sounding set....much better than many more expensive kits. Would love to see it featured. I only have the Black Widow maple snare and it’s great.

Mapex always makes nice looking drums and these are some of the coolest finishes along with a great variety of attractive finishes. however, their drums always sound "thin". And the Tama birch walnut sounds soo much deeper and better and Tama hardware is unbeatable. However, the finish options on these Mapex look way better than Tama's current birch walnut lineup.

Sounds good as per usual with Saturn’s but man, they really needed to make a new badge or something under the halo mount...it just looks weird. I would probably choose the standard Saturn’s over these. The finishes for this year are super underwhelming compared to the previous MH exotics, but the pricing seems to reflect that. I will say I’m glad they included a few different bass drum depths to be readily available (22x16” and 24x14”) that weren’t available on the past few iterations of Saturn.

These are great reviews, but I still miss one crucial thing: real life example playing with other musician(s) e.g. drums with bass, or drums with bass and guitar. Just a little improvisation may help feel the drums' spirit within the band :)

I found the shell pack to be very underwhelming. The bass drum was the only exception. The toms were very hollow sounding and had no bottom end. The halo mounting system looks very strange and the badge placement on the rack Tom is also odd. I own a Mapex Saturn 3 kit and I will take that hands-down over this shell pack.

You like maple then. The kick is maple and toms are birch and the mount is not for looks it's for getting more tone out of the Tom.

What snare was used. ? It’s a pity it had some muffling....Demonstrations should be muffling free, for a true sound,

It's a copper Black Panther. I think it's called the Predator.

Hi Roy, the snare is the new Mapex Predator Copper, which we looked at in a previous video and our demonstrator Nick was so impressed with it he kept it. You can check it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnyYimxtZdKUbKc The only reason it had dampening was because it isn't part of this review as the kit is a three-piece shell pack and we wanted to focus on the kit so slightly subdued the snare. Gents - can you confirm which model Paiste cymbals you use as they sound amazing

Paiste signature precission and i have just signature od just bigining manufactured 1989 and i say precission sounds like wash maschine signature. For me it's very bad series paiste, missing sparkle and finesse, not siriyusly like signature, i play signature over 35 jears and i play it's evrything signature but not heavy cymbals like power rides, crashes and similar models but it's traying all. I have good price hear in Croatia but not talk of theme. I like a lot new signature and traditional series. Not throwe money na precission, it's regret, beliv me. Sorry for my english and sometime listing saumvan who have long time expirience. Pozz from Zagreb!
