Having been to the Scott Joplin house museum in St. Louis, I learned a lot about his music. One of the more interesting and simultaneously depressing things I learned there was that songs like Pineapple Rag and Maple Leaf Rag were named that way because (at least in part) Scott Joplin had no control over what the album and song covers would look like when released, if you look back at some of Joplin's pieces before he took up this naming scheme many of the covers have very racist artwork. So this naming style gave the cover artists much less design liberties or opportunities to be racist in the art they made for his song covers.

wow, I had no clue. it’s sad he had to contend with that just to make a living, but it’s also pretty admirable how he fought for some dignity in his art

Greetings! Thank you for introducing us all to an alternative performance of the Maple Leaf Rag! This is not a song I am accustomed to hearing and seeing played on a classical guitar, but is well suited to the instrument. Unfortunately, for much of the performance, the microphone is in the way and is blocking the viewers from seeing what the fingers are doing while the song is played, this could be corrected by re-recording after placing the microphone in a position that is not obstructing our view. I am sure that there are many guitarists that would like to learn to play this song, as well as other rag-time songs written by Scott Joplin. Nice performance! Thank you for posting these videos! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨
