All of a sudden Chevy whipped a suitcase at him. Harold responded by saying something on the lines of :"you son of a B*tch! don't ever do that again. We are all hot here just like you " his words. This is one of my favorite road trip movies. Back in 2003, I went on my first road trip/vacation on my own as an adult. I was looking forward to just having a few days completely to myself and staying at a bed and breakfast over in Pennsylvania. I headed east from Columbus, Ohio, and things were going OK until I hit Pittsburgh. I came out of the Fort Pitt Tunnel and found that my exit was closed. I took one of the other exits, and after finding myself going in a circle in downtown Pittsburgh, I got back on the interstate, heading back through the tunnel and stopped at a motel to get directions around the closed exit. After detouring through some interesting residential neighborhoods, I got on the state route that I was needing to continue east on only to discover that the road was undergoing heavy reconstruction to widen it from 2 lanes to 4 with traffic squeezed into two narrow lanes of bumper to bumper traffic on the left berm. I was sitting there in the August heat barely moving and noticed the temperature guage on my car that I had slowly creeping up. Unable to get out of the stopped/slow traffic, I did what we were taught in driver's ed and rolled down the windows and cranked up the heat to suck the air out of the engine. So there I am stuck in traffic with the heater cranked up in the August heat and sweating up a storm. I also hadn't eaten lunch, and I was starting to feel sick from the heat and not having anything to eat or drink (my cooler was in the trunk. That's when I snapped and started yelling Clark's speech, screaming "This is no longer a vacation! It's a quest! It's a quest for fun!" People were looking at me with a spooked expression on their faces, but it got me through it to let off some steam. Traffic did start moving normally after a while, and when I was able to, I pulled off at a gas station to let the car cool down and eat lunch. I then got to the bed and breakfast just before a strong thunderstorm came through, setting off the tornado sirens. If you guys haven't seen it, you must watch Christmas Vacation. It's a classic Christmas movie.

A cool piece of trivia ... The original ending had Clark going to Roy Wally's house and kidnapping him (a scene they eventually use in a later Vacation movie) ... That ending didn't go over well with test audiences ... So, they went back a few months later and refilmed the ending at the amusement park ... During that break between the original filming and the refilming of the end, Anthony Michael Hall (Rusty) had a growth spurt ... Through the entire movie he's shorter than Beverly Deangelo (his mom, Ellen) ... but, during the final scene at the amusement park, he's taller than her.

The part with the dog actually made me laugh when the cop pulled them over. It didn't translate as well in the movie but was very funny the way it was written. In the end, he bought a real gun and shot Disney in the leg at his house before being hauled to jail. If you can find the original story, it's worth a read.
