I love the first Friday the 13th, it's the only movie I can think of where the twist is enhanced by the movie having sequels, because people know of Jason from so many other things. All the sequels are fun, good is a whole other thing. 2,4, and 6 are my personal favorites. I don't want to spoil anything, but the first 4 movies form a very loose story arc for Jason becoming Jason.

He said he saw this movie, with a knife thing thru the throat and decapitated head. I said what , he said Friday the 13, it had just came out . Whoa 😳.

"You see, Jason was my son, and today is his birthday..." Fun Fact: Adrienne King's scream was the deal maker when she was auditioning for Alice. Snake Wangler Fact: The scene with the snake was not in the script and was an idea from Tom Savini after an experience in his own cabin during filming. The snake in the scene was real, including its on-screen death. Location Location Fact: The movie was filmed at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco in New Jersey. The camp is still in operation and it has a wall of Friday The 13th franchise memorabilia to honor that the movie was set there. Music Enthusiast Fact: Composer Harry Manfredini has said that contrary to popular belief, the famous "chi, chi, chi, ha, ha, ha" in the film's score is actually "ki, ki, ki, ma, ma, ma" and it is meant to resemble Jason's voice saying "kill, kill, kill, mom, mom, mom" in Mrs. Voorhees's mind. It was inspired by the "Get her, mommy! Kill her!" scene in which Pamela Voorhees breaks mentally. Manfredini created the effect by speaking the syllables "ki" and "ma" into a microphone running through a delay effect.

And an animal trainer had loaned out the snake. He was unaware they planned to kill it for real (which they did). He freaked out about it afterwards and was crying. I can’t say I blame him. That could easily have been faked with good camera work. Although this was an extremely low budget movie.

I remember my best friend went to Mississippi to stay with his grandparents for a month over summer vacation When he came back he told me he had seen this movie and told me all about it... I was so jealous but we ended up going to see it pretty soon after that. Jason and Leatherface are my favorites
@WadeWallenstein Жыл бұрын
Leatherface, Freddy and now Jason! 80s was truly the best time for Slasher films with Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween leading the way. Paramount Pictures distributed 8 of the films with the last coming out in 1989. New Line Cinema would get the rights to it and distribute 2 more, Freddy vs. Jason and then a reboot. You should also check out Halloween from 1978!
@craigbeddow8030 Жыл бұрын
Friday the 13th followed Halloween in promoting slasher films as more than just a cheap B movie, most people would have thought Jason's father/brother was the one killing the counselors after they allowed Jason to die. So you get two really good twists, the killer being a sweet old lady, and then the jump scare at the end with Jason. The sequels are more slasher type films, as Jason makes his debut so to speak, and an iconic horror character was created. Took 3-4 films to get the full Jason we all know and love now, but if you like horrors/slashers, the full Friday 13th part 1 to 8 make a pretty good marathon, and Freddy V Jason is a good crossover for fans.
@Vyperus69 Жыл бұрын
and then the killer being the mother and not the father/brother ended up retroactively becoming a twist that it was Jason's mother instead of Jason lol
@kiss.me.monster Жыл бұрын
People would not have known who Jason was in 1980. He isn’t mentioned until Mrs Voorhees enters the film, so the audience would have had no expectation at all back then, other than thinking the killer was a man (because a man stood in for Betsy Palmer during the kill scenes.)
@Vyperus69 Жыл бұрын
@@kiss.me.monster yes and no, people would have thought it was a man in 1980 because the killer in practically every slasher movie from the 70s was a man. Then upon hearing the story of how Jason died they would have thought momentarily that the killer would most likely be his father or brother (some.may even have thought it was actually Jason, who had somehow survived the drowning with no one knowing). The "his mum" being the killer has always been a twist in the movie, the twist just happened to change over time.

This might be one of the few examples of a retroactive twist in movies, can't think of another one, nowawadays throughout the movie one expects it to be Jason but ends up being his mother. I wonder if this was as much of a twist then as it is now... You should check out the Slashstreet Boys, a Backstreets Boys parody featuring Jason and Freddy among others. You were surprised at the red phone booth, didnt you have those where you are from? It looked pretty much like the ones we had here in Brazil, we used to call them "orelhão" ("big ear" in English).
@imnotabotrlyimnot Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's a great unintentional twist for those seeing it now, but when it came out originally it wasn't a twist at all. No one knew anything about Jason. I guess to some extent it was a bit of a surprise that the killer was a woman.

All of them, except Part 9, are worth watching to enjoy the progression of Jason, but IMHO the first 3 are the best. Part 4 is also very popular and also important in Jason's story. Bare minimum: 1-3 More suggested 1-4 & 6. BUT, watching all of them is truly a fun experience, like no other franchise. Part 9 is the only one I swear no one should subject themselves to watching. BUT that might be more due to the fact that they completely abandoned all continuity and tried to do something entirely different with the character's story - but, nah, it was also done very badly, as well. 😂 Thanks for sharing your reactions! Great reaction you two to a classic iconic 80s horror flick....if you're really wondering about Jason, he is the franchise main killer from Part 2 onward (and he gets his iconic hockey mask look in Part 3)... They made a total of 10 films in the original timeline, a crossover film with the 'Nightmare On Elm Street' franchise ('Freddy Vs Jason' - with Robert Englund returning as Freddy) and one remake/reboot film, so far. There was also a short 3 season TV series called 'Friday The 13th: The Series' (made by the same producers of the movie series) in the late 80s as well but it had nothing to do with Jason (it was more like an X-Files meets Wearhouse 13 anthology series). It was mostly entertaining but it is very different. Recently since original writer Victor Miller won in court the full legal rights to the original Friday The 13th script/story (the Jason character from 2 onward & all the rest of the sequels film rights are still owned by producer Sean S. Cunningham, Paramount Pictures & New Line Cinema), Victor Miller has been working with the Shutter network to possibly make a 'Crystal Lake' TV prequel series about Mrs. Voorhees (so far no word on where that progress is yet or when it is even going to get made?) If you want to watch a cool retrospective look at the entire Friday The 13th series, then check out 'Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History Of Friday The 13th' documentary (it contains lots of interviews with many of the franchise cast and crew members & lots of behind-the-scenes photos, never before deleted scenes and videos clips) and hosted by Corey Feldman (who was in Friday The 13th parts 4 & 5). Happy Friday The 13th & don't go into the woods alone 😉

2:02 The infamous "ch ch ch ha ha ha" is actually a sample of two words spoken by Betsy Palmer with echo added to it. First of all, it's not "ch ch ch ha ha ha." it's "ki ki ki ah ah ah" the "ki" is from the word "kill" and the "ah" is from the middle of the word "mommy", at the end of the film, Betsy Palmer is saying "kill her mommy."

I first saw this movie on Friday, February 13, 1987. I'd seen the commercials for the movies over the years prior (by this time we were up to part 6) so I watched expecting to see a guy in a hockey mask show up. The twist of who the killer was in the first movie was a complete surprise. As far as which ones to watch, I'd say watch at least through part 4. After that, I think the series started going downhill. The scores for the movies were awesome as well and added so much to the atmosphere. I still remember listening to the score from the first movie one evening in my home office with only my desk light on. It got to the part where Marcie is slowly going towards the showers when my neighbor's car alarm outside the window went off. I swear there was a human-shaped imprint on my ceiling for a while afterwards.

I saw "Halloween" in theaters at 7 yro & caught this and "The Shining" which followed at 9. For younger folk I always try & compare the experience to what it was like seeing Star Wars ("A New Hope") when it came out. It was new & amazing. Unless you lived in a huge metropolis nobody worried about someone just wandering around killing for no apparent reason, as the term serial killer wasn't even invented yet, & is why doors were often left unlocked & windows left open in horror flicks from the time. "Halloween" scared the hell out of us, but to me it was like the Star Trek of the genre by comparison. Friday The 13th was next-level shit! Had never seen anything like it & no one expected a sequel. So when part 2 came out it was like seeing The Empire Strikes Back. Though it was the 4th one for me that was The Return Of The Jedi of the series, not the 3rd. If you've never seen those, that absolutely makes no sense!😅Either way, once you've seen the 1st, you have to see them all! Them's the rules my new friends!😅 ✌🌎❤

My favorite story about the making of this movie: Betsy Palmer, who played Pamela Voorhees, was very much NOT known for this style of film. Her car happened to die, and she needed a new one, and then this job crossed her path, and it paid exactly what she needed for a new car. She read the script, and said "This is just horrible, this is the worst thing I've ever read, no one will ever see this! I'll do it." Figuring she'd get a new car out of a movie that would make no money, no one would see, and would be quickly and quietly forgotten. She's kind of stunned it's become such a pop culture icon, but enjoys the fandom she's amassed from it. As she says, people who would have never heard of her otherwise know who she is because of their love of this film and this franchise. The whole franchise, to me, is fairly even. Compared to, say, Nightmare on Elm Street. The best Friday isn't as good as the best Nightmare, but the worst Friday isn't as bad as the worst Nightmare. But truly "classic" Jason, the one most Friday fans think of when they think of Jason, doesn't really show up until Part 6. Sadly, Part 7 is when most agree the franchise starts going downhill, yet is also when we get the most iconic Jason, played by Kane Hodder.

Love your channel… I don’t even watch reaction videos, but you guys have had me hooked… it’s like when I’m showing my friends great classics they never saw.

I haven’t seen that one, so I won’t watch your reaction, but I’ll still like and comment, because the KZbin Algorithm must be fed!

Parts 2, 3, and 4 are a trilogy that takes place over no more than a week's span, set about 5 years after the first movie. Those are worth watching. Beyond those, only Part 6 is really worth checking out, and it's actually the best film in the series. The other 143 sequels are a madlibs template of the same script with different faces and zero continuity between them.

I'm writing that i bought the 2020 Shout Factory and Scream Factory 16 discs Friday the 13th Blu-ray Boxset. I can assure you that you really get your money's worth when it comes to special features and there's 22 audio commentaries and two special features discs too.

Well, I mean, the game DID allude to it.. when you play as Jason, your mom never shuts up 😂 "Kill them all Jason, they dont belong here.. blah blah blah" ... and when you get to part 2 you'll recognize even more stuff that alludes to mom

This was a great reaction. If you want the real Jason experience that you're imagining then you'll want to check out anything from Friday the 13th part 3 or later. Part 4: The final chapter and Part 6: Jason Lives are 2 of my favorites. If you don't want to miss anything though you might want to just watch them in order.

Friday the 13th Part 4 is probably the best of the series if you are going to watch any of the ones that have Jason.

It's been 6 months & no follow up on this one. Makes me scared but I'll say PLEASE continue the series! There's so much better material to come! You haven't even met the big guy yet!!! And honestly, I agree with James from the channel Dead Meat on this movie not being very good. Anyway great reaction, I just hope you continue the series beyond just this film.

I'd still say you need to watch 'Session 9'. You will LOVE the visuals and cinematography.

Watch all the subsequent Fridays. The quality is so all over the place that only you are gonna know which ones you like or don't like.

i'd say watch them all, like all 80s Slasher Franchises some sequels are good, some are just straight fun and some are just straight up comical. The only real "bad" one for me is Jason X buts that's more to do with the whole 2000s bring back the classic franchise cash grab thing.

This was my second time seeing a horror movie. In the theatre the decappatating scene was killer. Scared the behejus out of me.

This film was never intended to have any sequels. It was just meant to be an homage to the film Halloween, the success of the film caused the studio to want more. After the second film, it was pretty much unavoidable there would be more films, and it just got more popular from there. For Paramount, the two big film franchises of the 80s, were Friday the 13th and Star Trek. The Friday the 13th game, such as the multiplayer PC game, pick the later films, since they have the character Jason in them. Most people when they think of the character are thinking of a specific later version, since that is the one that really took off and became a pop culture figure. I won't name the specific version or film, so as to not spoil things.

The snake was real and was a pet of one of the people on set, he had to be restrained when they killed it.

I hope you carry on with the rest of the original Friday the 13th franchise, they get gorier and cheesier as they go. A suggestion I have that was also directed (or written) by Sean Cunningham...and coincidentally also stars Kevin Bacon is "Tremors."

According to Tom Savini, and told in his makeup book, Jason was afflicted with a severe case of Down's Syndrome. Paramount removed aspects of this. He could not have done what he has done with a condition such as that, especially surviving a drowning.

Hi Guys - I'm enjoying watching your horror movie reactions very much. Now you have seen Friday 13th, if you haven't seen Scream (1996) yet then its a thrill ride but if you have then a second recommendation is the comedy horror film - Final Girls (2016) for a Summer Camp horror movie.
