Grannie Cyndy from South Australia here. I'm so sorry to read these negative comments. I'll never get to see your beautiful historic home and its grounds but I'm so grateful for future generations that you're finding innovative ways to keep the estate going. You are saving history for everyone. An old Aussie girl admires you for what you're doing and wishes you the very best on your new adventure. Sad that so many can't see that. Do what you have to do to preserve that wonderful history you are participating in.

A chimney sweep advised me once to roll up a newspaper and light the end and hold it up the chimney like an Olympic torch - it prewarms the stack and gets the airflow going up the chimney while the fire is getting started. Then when the "torch" gets shorter, just place the rest of the paper on the fire and there should be enough heat generated by the fire at that point to prevent smoke coming out the front of the fireplace. I've never had smoke come into the room since learning this trick.

Unfortunately, in today’s KZbin World of algorithm and financial structure, the main way to get your video seen (and not lost to the black depths of KZbin’s rarely seen and demonetized videos), Creators have to have these kinds of titles and grand reveals. As Julie and the rest of the Montague family have a very large and *expensive* estate to take care of, I suspect that KZbin is helping to pay bills and also quite conveniently acts as a form of Advertising for the Estate!

I would love to visit Mapperton one day but I feel it is not in the cards for me. The reason is that 1) I just turned 81 years old and 2) I have a big-time chronic illness (panhypopituitarism) wherein I now live with my daughter and her husband who help me navigate life with lots of symptoms and 3) I help my helpers who both have health issues (son-in-law has cancer and daughter just had her gallbladder extracted and is a breast cancer survivor). Ergo, I travel rarely but did get to visit England 40 years ago after I completed my MBA. What a great trip! That visit was to celebrate the fact that my grandparents were British from Bedfordshire. I very much enjoy your show and I envy you being able to experience England every single day of your lives! I know you must realize how lucky you are! All the best from me, Kathryn Featherston, and my Corgi mix Suki. 🐶❤

I'm sorry to hear about the yoga retreats, but wish you the best with your new tours. And knowing the beavers are doing well is SUCH a treat! Thanks for posting this. Also - I'm sure Luke knows this already - but pre-warming the flue of your fireplace will go a long way to improving the draw, especially in those fireplaces located on the ground or first floors, which have especially tall chimneys. When I was little, my parents built a new house, and whoever built the flue didn't know much about what makes for good upward air flow. Every time we built a fire we had to stuff several bunched up newspapers up the flue and light them on fire. They would burn up in a minute or two - this pre-heated the flue, got the air moving upward and then the fire itself would draw well on its own. You're right, there's nothing like a good fire and a cup of tea on a cold winter's day.

Everything in our lives evolves into the next thing that is useful or necessary in our lives. So for right now think about it in this way - you’re “holding onto something”, “letting go of something” and “taking on something” all in an effort to achieve something that is “inviting” you. Go for it …and who knows what else it will bring into your lives. All the best!

Julie, thanks for sharing. Sending you air hugs from Texas. (Also I am drinking a cup of tea while watching you in my new Ember mug that keeps the tea hot. It connects via blue tooth…you can set the temperature that you’d like. Treat yourself-it’s life changing.❤)

Wow what a cool idea that grand historic tour is! I also really love that you've included local business and other houses. I love seeing small business collaborations, especially when they've put their heads together to create something interesting and unique. Kudos to you and your creativity and hard work! 💚💚💚

I feel your sadness. However, your channel is amazing, the history videos are fascinating, your little Italian villa is an ongoing project, one which we love watching. The future is bright. Yoga will remain a part of your life...once it's in, it never leaves our lives. The Grand historic tours sound amazing!! What a great idea. The beaver footage was an added bonus!Hugs and love from Canada🇨🇦

Hello Julie and Luke from Newcastle Australia. The pool is looking amazing. Your news about the yoga retreats is sad, but the guests you've had over time will have thoroughly enjoyed their stays with you, however your knew venture sounds fabulous its a great idea and I'm sure you are going to bring a lot of joy to future visitors in the years to come. Julie you and Luke work so very hard to help people see and hear about the history of your beautiful Mapperton and History in general is so very important to us all. It is going to be wonderful to see your Mother and Father taking part in your new project, they are both delightful and have so much knowledge to share with us. And lastly the footage you have shown us with the Beavers is marvellous. How precious are they. They are truly extraordinary little animals. Luke you have done a great thing in bringing them back to Mapperton. Well done. I really love how passionate you both are and how much you give of yourselves to keep Mappertons Estate going for everyone to enjoy. Thank you so much.

Sounds wonderful! Wish you would offer more than one of these tours. I assume it is a great deal of working preparing and organizing the tour and all involved. But if you can fully book it out, 3x a year (Just a thought: April/May, July, Late Sept) allows more flexibility for others and a very impactful net income (even after taxes paid) for the maintenance, improvements and new projects needed and required for the beautiful Mapperton. Side note: Sadly, October is already booked for me otherwise I would have already booked this marvelous tour. Sounds wonderful! I had been wondering if you would ever incorporate something like this. Bravo/Brava! PS I love your Rewilding project, your restoration of your 18 Century pool and bringing in your wonderful beavers. Hope they are adapting. Also, so delightful to see what the other farmers are doing and the incredible people you work with on your projects. Wishing you, your family and team a Healthy, Happy and Prosperous New Year!

As some one who love yoga, I am of course sad for you Julie... because I know that you loved your retreats buttttt! I am thoroughly excited that you have come up with your new project especially because it includes your father and mother in law in very active participation!! You two are SO clever! I am so glad that you-all have your finger on the pulse and are able to grow and move in the most profitable direction. Keep it up because it is about keeping creative and profitable! Best to all of you!

Well done Julie and Luke for your wonderful endeavours for keeping Mapperton whole and able to continue centuries of history open to all. I do wish you both a huge amount of success and how wonderful that Luke's Parents are also able to extend so much of their knowledge, with their involvement. You all shine in my book and I hope to do the tour myself at some stage. Good Luck to all the family. Toni x

I love both of your channels. Your devotion to history and keeping it alive is what has kept me coming back every week. You and Luke have shown the world that aristocrats are not those stuffy people you see on TV, but just like the rest of us. I may have to start begging my husband for this trip. May God continue to bless your family.

The new project sounds FABULOUS! I wanted to see if I could fit a visit to Mapperton while I'm in England in a couple weeks, but alas, I'll be a 4 hour drive away, up in Northamptonshire. With so many of your videos, I keep thinking you need a proper project manager to wrangle all the stuff going on! (I'd love to do it, but I'm already happily employed across the pond...)

I’m sure that was a tough decision for you. I hope you find time to go on a yoga retreat for yourself. One of my favorite places is a little unexpected - Guatemala. If you ever need a break, and want some pointers feel free to message me. I go to Guatemala once a year (not specifically for yoga, but for a refresher in general).
