I absolutely adore this version. Their harmonies and dissonant chords are as tight as can be. It's all about the simple and breathtaking harmony making the song float from beginning to end flawlessly. Not to mention that Mitch's voice is smooth as cream and when he sang the high range it was absolutely breathtaking and angelic. It's hard to put into words just how simple and powerful it is with those harmonies carrying everything to create such emotion without over-singing or using the wow factors of each members talent.

PTX did the tune in a slow 4/4 instead of 6/8. That made the song more poignant. Oh, and Avi sang two 2nd ledger line C#s and ended with a 3 rd ledger line A... amazing! Oh, and Kev and Kirstie were doing the bell tones!

For me, seeing the looks on your faces while watching and listening to a video IS the reaction, and pretty much says it all. You don't have to say a lot at the end, (unless you want to) so don't worry about that. ✌ 🍻 Thanks for sharing with us.
@kikimo577 жыл бұрын
the use of a lot of dissonant chords gives the song a fresh and modern feel to it without taking away from its classic feel.... it was done brilliantly

Pentaholics understand you saying the same thing over and over again - we totally agree!!! :o) Pentatonixs has done SONGS I may not like, but I have NEVER faulted their singing or production. They have even changed my opinion of some songs when they do them. :o) I have even discovered some artists BECAUSE Pentatonix has covered them.
@janetranslates7 жыл бұрын
Like many other pentaholics, I fully expected Avi to take the lead on this one. He usually has a lead in each album, and as you said--Elvis has made us expect this song to be sung in a deeper voice. I am, and always will be, an Avi girl (though I intend to #Embracethe Bass when the new guy joins #PTXForever), but after my initial disappointment, I have to admit that I wouldn't change a thing. This arrangement and this performance are perfect. I've just learned that this arrangement was mostly Kevin's, which doesn't surprise me at all. It's very intricate, but since it's slow, there's plenty of time to appreciate each nuance, and everything contributes to such a lush sound that you almost forget to listen to the words. It's perfect. Thanks, Marco, both for singing and for stopping. We can all identify with the singing--it's an almost irresistible urge. And I can always listen to the original video if I want to hear everything. But I'm thinking of you; I wanted you to stop singing because I hated for you to miss anything! (Your singing was good, by the way.)

I think PTX also knew Avi was likely leaving...so maybe they made sure he wasn't the lead on this ep so that fans wouldn't get too attached to him as the lead vocal. I pity Matt when he will sing Light in the Hallway for the first few times. Avi owned that song. It will take us time to adjust, even though I know he'll sing it beautifully.

Ahhh first Kirstin and now PTX!!?? YASSS! Okay gonna watch now 😁 Edit: I love how you do the reactions. I love that you stay quiet during the audio while your faces emote so much, and then express your thoughts after the video. Perfect format in the my opinion. PTX videos always appeal to my aesthetics. Its just plain and simple, and their vocals do all the work. Its perfection for me ❤ I'm looking forward to all the PTX related reactions 😁 I'll suggest Gold, Ride and No. 😊 Love ya'll

I 100% agree with you! They EMOTE so much and they are super clever in their arrangements. They are genuinely masterful singer-performers. I also really appreciate the way these decent guys just show how they feel. It's lovely and it's just nice to see good people being genuine online. Hello from Canada guys!

Not sure if it's because he's closest to the ACTAUL video but just letting you know. I actually watch your PTX reactions multiple times to focus on BOTH of your reactions! Keep it up boys, Love ya!!!

Pentatonix has so many gifts! I most especially love this way of taking a very old song, like Angels We Have Heard on High or Silent Night or Can't Help Falling in Love and arranging it in a marriage of beautiful original with modern updated chords and ear candy treats. Kirstin's harmonizing and chiming part at the very end makes me so happy. There are a lot of reactors who I have watched only once because they are not genuine. React the way you want, say what you want - positive or neutral or negative - but please stay genuine. I enjoy your reactions very much. I remember watching one of your reactions to distract myself during Hurricane Harvey (I live in Texas, but was not flooded) and you gave me relief for a few minutes. What is better than that?

Ok, I'm going to break my rule and comment 2x on a video (not reply to my comment) but now that I've watched your reaction, I have to give my comments: I absolutely LOVE how you analyzed that it's a song you expect to be VERY LOW and I know I heard a lot of people were sad that Avi didn't lead (Just like "Let's get it on" from the sing off) but once you hear it, I can't imagine Avi NOT pulling off the perfect chord progression to make the song EPIC! Now I know you guys have a set schedule, so I'm NOT going to ask you to deviate from that, but I know Marco is a fan of Avi (well his bass notes) I'd LOOOOOOOOVE to see you guys react to his Final Performance in PTX which just happened a week ago in VT. I was lucky enough to be there and it was emotional and EPIC. So if you decide to react to it, use SeBoss12 channel's versions of "Light in the hallway" and "Sing". They are the encore performances and Avi & Scott make very emotional intros and it's the essence of how tight / supportive this group is. I can honestly say, those videos make me flashback immediately to how it felt that night, rain & all...even the heavens were crying due to Avi's departure - or it covered our tears. :-) Anyway, Love you guys!!!

Yay! Thank you for reacting to this song. One of my faves. Can't wait to see more of your PTX and superfriit reactions they are so genuine. Id request some PTX but really,.. they're all amazing you just have to do them all , eventually. Im insanely curious to see your reaction to another singer. Given your love and appreciation for such vocalists at PTX members and So Hyang, I'd love for you to react to Dimash Kudaibergen. He appeared earlier in 2017 on a Chinese /HunanTV show "I Am a Singer" as the foreign "guest singer" (he is Kazakh, other artists Chinese) and well the rest is history. I can only compare him to the likes of Mitch Degrassi of PTX and So Hyang, and even that's an apples to oranges comparison. But closest I can get. Would you pls react to his first performance on the show (there are 14) in which he sang "SOS d'un terrien en détresse"/"A Soul's Plea for Help". ?? It is an experience. Love you both Marco and Ali! Thank you.

Wonderful reaction! You guys really FEEL the music, and that comes through every time. Many PTX fans are musicians, so when you go to one of their concerts and the audience is singing along, the audience is mostly in tune! BTW, there is a video of them doing the Beyoncé medley, which is really difficult, in a news room with no mics, no notes, and it is perfect. You may not want to react, but you can see their skills with no props. Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hoSrkKemqctln9E

It’s important that you realize that PTX sang this in a slow 4/4 rather than the original 6/8; this gives more poignancy to the song. Also, Avi hits a ledger-line low A on the last note! Amazing!

It's a slow and beautiful song, but I have to say that I prefer Tim Foust's solo version of it. I highly recommend Tim's version of the song, even though it doesn't have a proper video, since it really showcases Tim's ability and range. Also yes, you are doing "reactions" correctly, you're not just illegally showing someone else's full video without doing anything own. You actually make good comments of each individual and show other feelings than just "Yep, that was pretty nice".

I like Haley Reinhart's version of "Can't Help Falling in Love" astronomically far better. As Haley's voice absolutely melts me and gives me goose pimples all over my body. Not to mention as well, that Haley's version is also a platinum seller as well, and it did that without being backed, supported, and promoted by a major record label. Which is supposed to be impossible.
