I feel like metal can sometimes be the perfect genre to express emotions, especially those heavy emotions of loss and sadness, literally just screaming out in pain... Stuff like Lorna Shore's Pain Remains trilogy, or basically the whole All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us album by Architects... Will Ramos' gut wrenching screams at the end of Pain Remains part 1 just carry so much emotion, the lyrics are beautiful, but I couldn't imagine it having anywhere near the same emotional impact in another genre.

But it's different in terms of beat, voice and instruments.

The sleep token albums are a trilogy. The first album “sundowning” is about trauma. His second album “this place will become your tomb” is about the shock that follows the trauma, and begins with vessel attempting to take his own life, but waking up in a hospital surrounded by the staff realizing he’s still alive. Trapped in an oceanic flood of emotions, realizing that his events were very real and he might not ever escape. Take me back to Eden is a realization of the presence of hope. There’s still a lot of pain. There’s a lot of confusion. It’s an outcry to help. And the metaphor of going back to Eden- the garden of Eden, is an essence of trying to get back to the place of innocence. Because the innocence is where there was happiness. He understands it isn’t quite possible to experience that level of happiness again. But Euclid is a full circle journey, ending by singing a song he dedicated to his first love- the person he lost and the heart of his trauma.

The fade-out at the end of TMBTE serves a purpose. The tension does not resolve or end. Because you’re never going to be able to go back to “Eden”. The abrupt heavy ending is being pulled back into reality, the obsessive fixation and rumination that this is it. It’s over…. And then Euclid begins when you get a chance to heal ❤
@deardariling2 ай бұрын
This is so true! Now that I had time to sit with the album as it is for over a year, I cannot imagine that song ending any other way. ☺ It really prepares you for for the epic ending with Euclid.
@bradleycampbell72562 ай бұрын
The fade outs with sleep token I believe are a perceived passage of time. Meaning it’s usually coming after the explanation of a pattern he is stuck in. Whether it’s chokehold or jaws or the love you want or Calcutta or Vore or Dark Signs or Distraction or take me back to Eden or anything it’s deliberate. It’s how the story progresses because in that moment it continues until the next moment. This is also why moments like Alkaline, Ascensionism and Euclid feel so abrupt when they end because those are actual ends of moments. Those are periods on those sentences and because Vessel’s supposed misery is so long standing when he comes to endings it’s a celebration and a lamentation of the closure.

Also of course Euclid being the Greek grandfather of Geometry; "In reverse you were all my symmetry." "These ancient canopies we used to lay beneath" The canopies often referred to in that time as the stars. Every single damn song, from the debut album of this trilogy. From the opener of the debut album to the closer Euclid of the finale of their trilogy is in synergy. One of the greatest pieces of music, ever written.

These songs still hit me and make me emotional even after hearing them so many times. They're timeless. I was diagnosed with ADHD in my thirties and I'm about to turn 54 and also just found out I'm also on the spectrum. Just now, the lyrics, "I must be someone new" hit me different. I was just thinking I've finally accepted myself and the way that I am. After a lifetime of masking, being called weird, slow, lazy... stupid. I was bullied in school and ended up in an abusive relationship . I had developed crippling social anxiety, depression and a terrible inferiority complex. Starting with the ADHD diagnosis I'm learning to love and accept myself. I've stopped caring what others think of me and I've stopped trying to be like everyone else or like everyone else's idea of who I should be. I'm much, much happier now. 💕.

I'm pretty sure Euclid did more for me than 2 years of therapy ever did. That song in burned into my soul

Euclid is an absolute treat for Sleep Token fans, calling back to TNDNBTG. For me TMBTE is their best work to date. The echoes of Chokehold foreshadow a nostalgic approach.

I cry everytime i listen to this album as it relates to my personal life in so many levels (and yes, i cried watchig your reaction aswell XD). Seeing someone else having the same feelings as me towards this album, makes me feel so happy that the guys from Sleep Token were able to make a piece of art that can touch a lot of people, and create a community around their music. And as i saw in another comment, this was not embarassing, this was beautiful, thank you for sharing your experience with us Cheers from Brazil and Worship

I saw Sleep Token back in May and I still think about it constantly. Best show I've ever been to and I recommend seeing them live to anyone who even just kinda likes their music lol I was a casual fan before and now I'm obsessed

This was awesome! I don't think there has ever been a better album.. Bold statement but I'll stand by it. Had the opportunity to see them live and it's bitter sweet because it just flew by and I wish I could go back and appreciate it again.

this reaction video was so beautifully authentic, I enjoyed every bit of it especially at "Euclid", my favorite off the album and the one that hit the feels the most after "are you really ok?".

I can't emphasise how much I love this album, it's rare I purchase physical media, however I now own this album on cd and vinyl and of cause stream it when on the go. This album is a blessing and has seem me through some good and not so good times.
