Ali: Sorry Not Sorry! 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆 You guys are watching this after hearing lots of their recent stuff, but can you imagine hearing this, not fully knowing their capacity!? We were blown away! Especially with the Mitch placement!!!! It probably wasn’t as surprising to you both, as it was to us in 2011! Marco you were already getting goosebumps, so didn’t fully get the impact probably, but yes, we ALL think that this was their perfect Sing Off performance! There would be no doubt that they would walk away as winners! There is still one more performance - Without You - a nervous start, but still fabulous! After your siesta, you may want to check out their Evolution of Rihanna, which they uploaded 2 days ago. Matt’s first Evolution PTX ‘sofa’ song. They might not do anything else new for a month (although they have 2 new mashups), but that should keep up with your new pace...

The thing that gets me every time I stop to think about it: that was FIVE people doing all that. Five voices. That's it. And yes, the details. The arrangements are mind boggling. I've sung for decades, and it's so easy to underestimate the challenge of acapella and intricate arrangements like this. Trying to remember timing when you don't have real words but are singing on some other sound ... It takes so much practice and focus.

Mitch was their secret weapon, and they held him back until this night. There was no more holding back after that. The only thing that was missing from this performance was a mic drop at the end of it. Yeah, Avi's statement in the end is now heartbreaking in retrospect, but he was very sincere about it at the time.

I agree that the very ending is hard to watch. Mixed feelings watching Avi crying, saying he wanted to sing with them for the rest of his life and now he's gone. I understand you have a lot of projects going on and respect your hard work but maybe in addition to 1 PTX reaction a month you can throw in a Superfruit reaction as well. I know you've reacted to a few of their Future Friends videos but there's more to see so I hope you'll consider doing more from that album? ;)

Next, I really appreciate how steady the other four are at the end. Mitch/Kirstie + Avi/Kevin in perfect rhythm and pitch-giving Scott all the creative license in the world to go off w/the riffs and runs because he KNOWS the other four have his back. So good.

It sounds like they don't plan on doing older Pentatonix videos. What a shame. They seem to be more interested in TV shows and gaming now. It took them 9 months to do 12 Sing-off performances, and they mentioned in this video that they won't be returning to "older" PTX performances. Try Jerod M's channel. I will only disagree with your assessment slightly in that Mitch could have been the lead. You needed Scott's ability to make it kind of raw. Don't get me wrong Mitch has a great voice, but it would have been too clean. Sometimes you just that little bit of an edge to the sound. That rasp added so much to it.
@gustavsson52776 жыл бұрын
stonecoldku I agree! Scott being able to sing raspy is one of my favourite things about him 😍 It wouldn't have been the same with Mitch as the lead.
@butmyopiniondoesntmatter59545 жыл бұрын

But 최 우린 my opinion doesn’t matter he’s always raspy
@TragerM4 жыл бұрын
Also.. they were DELIBERATELY hiding Mitch, so when his "moment" happened, it "hit harder".. they weren't "saturated" with Mitch's ability until that second, where they whipped him out on everybody... do very think that was a conscious choice, of theirs..
@stonecoldku41614 жыл бұрын
@@TragerM I've heard from some that Mitch, although being very talented at this point, still was shy at this point. Having been bullied because of his voice. So I don't know if it was deliberate or if he just wasn't confident yet. I sang in choirs all throughout school and I was decent, not going to make a living at it, but good. But even though I had that talent I never liked doing solos, so I can kind of understand not wanting to or even thinking myself capable of stepping up in front of a live crowd and a national TV audience.

Awesome reaction for one of their best performance (of not THE best) from the SingOff! I don't know if you want to check out their last performances on the SingOff, but they're not their best: their voices were supertired plus there were some audio issues I think (so much that they re-did one of them, "Without you" in a parking garage and recorded it because they weren't happy with how it tourned out live), but you could instead just watch the "I need your love" performance when they returned a year later :) PS: I'll wait impatiently for your reaction to their new "Rihann medley" because it's absolutely amazing and it's so old school pentatonix :)
@cassie89066 жыл бұрын
I agree that the parking garage "Without you" is a better performance than the one on the show and I recommend that over watching the sing off version.. You can tell that they were spent and it took a toll as they went all out EVERY performance. luckily, it wasn't a song that was being "judged" but they proved they could still do it in the parking garage. They make what they do seem effortless and (IMHO)"Without you" shows precisely how HARD it is - ESP the "meat & potatoes".
@manuelodonnell11486 жыл бұрын
Seconding this. The finale was on a different stage, and audio issues were a serious problem. Both their finale performances are actually painful to listen to. The parking garage version of "Without You", however, is brilliant, and, because of the reverb in there, the wall of sound they create is unique, and sounds a little like the "I need you" section in their cover of "Where are U now".

I have been waiting SO long for you to react to "Dog Days"! Then when you did, I missed it, because you published during PentaCon. So here I finally am, more than a month later. I can't wait another moment to see what you think! LATER: Arrrrggghhhh! You talked through the beginning of Mitch's solo! You missed the perfect setup! I'm trusting that you watched it again as soon as you finished your reaction video. My favorite moment, though is when he yells "Run!" His tone has been so crystaline, so restrained, and then while he's singing "what was left after that, too" you can see a trace of a smile, a gleam in Mitch's eye, like, "Just wait till you hear the next part." And then he sings "Run" with so much power and passion, and his hand is so tense that the fingers are bent almost backwards, and the contrast is just as impressive as the start of his solo was, when everyone suddenly drops out and his voice is left hanging in the air all by itself. No need for Mitch to sing the lead--Scott's tired, almost worn-out voice was perfect for that. It's still Mitch's solo that we all remember when we think about "Dog Days."

Great reaction to an unbelievable performance. It makes me really wish I had watched them from he beginning. What are the odds that these five individuals would come together? It is unbelievable that the original three grew up together but that they found the other two is also crazy. I will be forever grateful that they did though. And before you take a break from PTX you really need to do their return to the Sing Off as the guest artists at the finale of the next season. Their performance of "I Need Your Love" is one of their best performances because you get to see how much they improved after being on the show themselves. So just one more PLEASE!

I just saw Pentatonix in concert on Tuesday. They were INCREDIBLE! Matt has busted his butt so hard and is truly finding his way, and in some aspects exceeding Avi. Anyway, they did some stuff live that blew me away, including both Daft Punk and Bohemian Rhapsody. Each rendition confirmed that they did NOT use computer synthesis in either of those pieces-the effects are completely natural. Anyway, I recorded a number of the pieces, and I would be more than happy to share what I have with you if you would like. They were incredible, and know that Matt is more than holding his own. I'm so happy you watched this. It's hard to contain the excitement when you KNOW that Pentatonix finally uses that ace up their sleeve called "Mitch". I think it was just enough to grab everybody's attention and then it went back to Scott on the lead... and what a powerful lead! I gained a whole new appreciation for Scott when I saw the sheer effort he poured into the end of this song! He was a bit raspy from having lost his voice the night before, or the morning of.. can't remember which, but the raspy fit perfectly! What a showman! I always wondered why the judges never mentioned Avi's overtone? He did it more than once too. I think it's amazing when he does that! I'd seriously skip the next performance.. or watch it and be relieved the voting after Dog Days decided the winner and NOT after "Without You"... it's really their worst performance. But, please watch the winner announced video! I think you'll enjoy seeing their reactions! They are humble, that's for sure. And Mitch and Kirstin manage to NOT pass out while waiting for the announcement... but it looked like it was a close call for sure!

Sadly as the course of the show went on, Pentatonix was encouraged to not have Mitch out front. The producer's felt that his voice was too effeminate and might turn people off. What idiots. Because this was towards the end of the shows, they did what they wanted to do which was to show America what a talent Mitch has and you can see how excited they all were for him and of course, he nailed it. Later, after the show was done and they were doing their YT videos, they tried to really focus on Mitch a lot. Of course, Scott and Kirstie knew what he could do but America and the world didn't really get a chance to see the full range of his talent and vocal abilities. He was teased a lot in school about his voice and his theatrical style. Today, I hope the bullies are watching and seeing how the rest of the world have embraced him and how appreciated he is. He is a once in a generation voice and truly an angel. I hope he is happy now and living his best life and I am so thankful that he is sharing it with us.

Avi cries tears of joy, and it brings me to tears every time I see it. The producers had been deliberately trying to keep Mitch from displaying his full range. They thought his voice was effeminate, and would result in questions about his sexual orientation, which they *didn't* want coming out on the show. So in season 3 they instituted a new rule, which was dropped in season 4, that each band had to designate a lead singer, who would *always* be their lead singer, and they informed Pentatonix that their lead singer had to be Scott. PTX had been pushing back on this in small ways all season. They performed songs that required a female lead, for instance, or a male/female duet, so Kirstin had had her moments in the sun. And they'd found ways to highlight the wonderful talents of Avi and Kevin (that bass/beatbox "fight" in episode 11 was epic!), but this was their final chance to introduce the world to the eighth wonder of the world that is Mitch Grassi, and they took it. Fortunately, the judges hadn't been let in on the concerns that the powers that be had about Mitch's sexual orientation or about his high voice. The judges were there solely to give their musical judgment, and that's exactly what they did. Also, as professional musicians themselves they surely knew that sexual orientation and vocal range are totally independent of each other. This was the first Mitch-slap ever. It never gets old.
