We are very proud of him, very down to earth. Despite getting 3 to 4 National awards he is still living in a small village. He worked with Amitabh Bacchan and he also appreciated Nagraj's work. Lots of love and respect for him ❤️

नागराज मंजुळे या माणसाला मनापासून सॅल्युट आहे . संसार सुख भोगून झालेला संन्यासी जसा अस्सल असतो. त्या प्रमाणे जीवनातील सर्व कडू गोड अनुभव भोगून जगण्यातील मर्म काय असते ते प्रत्येक कलाकृती मधून समाजाला सांगतात.

NagRaj is one of the best actor/director/script writter from marathi industry. His movie stories are based on specially backward class people lives (Dalit). Must watch 1. Fandry 2. Sairat 3. Naal 4. My all time favourite movie "Sairat" released in 2016 . Premiered at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival. The film's budget only 4 crore , boxoffice collection 110 crore and became the highest-grossing Marathi film of all time. Rajguru received the National Film Award - Special Mention at the 63rd National Film Awards. Sairat received 11 awards at the 2017 Filmfare Marathi Awards, including Best Film, Best Director (Manjule), Best Actress (Rajguru) etc. Rajguru and Thosar won in the Best Debut female and male categories. The film was remade in several languages: Manasu Mallige (2017) in Kannada, Channa Mereya (2017) in Punjabi, Laila O Laila (2017) in Odia, Noor Jahaan (2018) in Bengali and Dhadak (2018) in Hindi. Edit: RX 100 (2018) in Telugu, Uppena (2021) in Telugu. These movie's director also get little bit an inspiration from 'Sairat'.

What a coincidence...I finished reading "Waiting for a visa" an autobiographical life story of B.R.Ambedkar and now chanced upon this episode where untouchables are one of the subject. I have been trying to search for authentic sources on origins of untouchability, how does it started in our society, was it imported idea from medieval periods. I could not able to find the term "dalit" so far in any ancient world. Unfortunately still exists in 21st century, a shame for the humanity.

Dalit word was used in recent years, search for "Shudra", You will find the answer in "Who Were the Shudras?" the book written by Dr Ambedkar

Sairat and Jhund maybe more popular but "Fandry" is the film which changed Indian film industry forever. All Indian films could be divided into two categories... Movies before Fandry and movies after Fandry.

I really didn't know who Nagraj Manjule is, so thank you for featuring him here. I have seen Sairat (and I don't understand Marathi), and its one of the gems. I always had respect for Sairat director, but now after hearing his story, I have so much respect for him. More than a filmmaker, he is a social entrepreneur!

Nagraj Manjule comes across as a soft-spoken and humble person (which he is), but as a filmmaker he's an absolute maverick. His stories, his way of presenting those stories, the dialogues, the setting, the music and most of all the casting. Any student or lover of cinema should watch all of his work. The social commentary in his work is spot-on and hard-hitting, but it's never bitter or divisive. At the same time, the comedy is hilarious too. A special artist indeed.
