Mara Jade Explains To Luke Why She Hates Him (Star Wars: Heir To The Empire)

In this excerpt, when Luke tries to flee, he and Mara Jade, Karrde's lieutenant, crash land on Myrkr in the surrounding forest, Luke asks Mara why she despises him. The Emperor's Hand was the moniker given to Mara Jade. Mara is an assassin working for Emperor Palpatine who uses the Force. Palpatine sent Mara to Jabba's house to murder Luke on the day he went to rescue Han. The distinction between Mara and Vader is that Vader intends to recruit Luke to the Darkside in order to destroy the Emperor, whereas Mara Jade was ordered by Palpatine to assassinate Luke.
Mara Jade's life was destroyed when the Emperor was killed, and she insists that Luke, not Vader, killed the Emperor.
