Marais tiene un encanto especial, caminar, observar, empaparse del lugar, olvidarse del tiempo, es una experiencia encantadora. Volver es un deseo que hay que cumplir.

Fantastic! Thank you for using such a high end camera, for keeping it steady and for not playing some awful music in the background. The way you shot this, capturing the sights, and equally important, the local sounds, made it such an enjoyable watch. Subscribed!

@bluewren2 Most of them are speaking French without an accent, which implies that they are Parisians. And this part of Paris is extremely popular with the Parisians themselves, who come out in droves to stroll in nice weather. There are also differences in behavior and dress that are easier to recognize with experience. However, it's true that it's usually very hard to point at a specific random person and say for sure that he's a local or a tourist.

Mxsmanic, I just love all your videos, are you planning to film more videos in 2014, and if so, can you film some in Spain, in the cities of Madrid and Barcelona. Thank you

@bluewren2 Almost everyone you see in this video is Parisian. As I recall, this was shot on a Sunday, and in good weather Parisians love to go strolling through the city, especially in the area around the Marais.

Wow, very nice video montage...I am looking forward to my trip this summer. I have a small Sony video cam and a Cannon, so as to be unobtrusive and still get those great video moments. I have studied French through the university 201 level, so I hope to ge able to at least be able to order from a menu, read directions and seem polite when spoken to. From your video shots, it certainly appears that parts of Paris can be packed with tourists and shoppers.

Paris is the world's number-one tourist destination city, so it's packed with tourists all the time. The crowd you see on certain streets in this video, though, is largely composed of Parisians themselves, as they like to go out for walks on nice days on the weekend.

Youth and the population from Paris outskirts were not used to go down to Paris but things changed in the late nineties-Y2K.

@kamillianne I'm a little bit taller than average but not a giant. However, I often hold the camera well above or below eye level, depending on the needs of a particular shot. Glad you liked the video!

Excellent video.. i'm going back to Paris for the second time and having a hard time deciding in which arridosment I want to stay.. These videos will help me make up my mind.. By the way im curious to know what kind of camera you are using and how do you manage so that the people do not stare at you while your recording them? I'm an amateur video person and sometimes i feel people don't like when Im recording..

I really enjoyed this one. Thanks. I was struck by all the people in blue jeans. Must be because they are warm in winter. Whoever sells blue jeans in Paris is making a fortune. At least you dont see people wearing baseball caps like in the USA. I really hate to see Paris Americanized. McDonalds in the Louvre which you showed in your Louvre video. Now blues jeans on all most everyone in this video.

I guess I should change that to say 95 per cent of "young" people are wearing blue jeans. This blue jean craze was started by James Dean, Marlon Brando, and Jack Kerouac back in the 1950s.

bluewren2, Mxsmanic is too polite to say this without backing out of it a little bit too - you can EASILY tell the difference between Parisians and tourists. Tourists from America TEND to be larger and wear big, white trainers and fannypacks. They also talk LOUDLY in obvious American accents. Tourists from Spain TEND to be very, very loud and be slightly darker (hair, skin). Tourists from UK are sunburnt and pale at the same time. Btw, I'm an Australian/British person who lives in Paris.

...(continued) Then there is fashion - Parisians of ALL ages and backgrounds tend to be smartly and neatly dressed and have that specific, obvious yet unidentifiable Parisian chic, whether man or woman. They tend to concentrate on coffee, or the meal, or their conversation with their friend, or their newspaper/magazine/whatever other business - while tourists walk slowly and look around a lot, as everything is new and unknown - like tourists anywhere in the world.

@joebstewart Paris is a big and modern city: people dress pretty much the way they want. I have to laugh at tourist books and travel guides that give detailed instructions on how to dress in the city, as if Parisians are going to care.

But in your video 95 per cent of them are wearing blue jeans. Maybe in the warm weather the women change to shorts and dresses. I hope so. In your latest video on the Louvre I see people wearing all kinds of clothes, But in this Marais video almost everyone is wearing blue jeans. Since it looked somewhat cold I guess that is the reason.

...(continued 3) I would actually say that there is a significant number of tourists in this video. People with backpacks, people strolling slowly and taking in the streetscape at a leisurely pace - most of the people at the sidewalk cafe etc.... When it gets to rue des Francs Bourgeois, you can see that most of the shoppers (if not all) are definitely Parisians, not tourists.

I just use a little touristy Handycam. It doesn't attract attention so it's not usually a problem, except for people with planet-sized egos who think that I'm recording them specifically instead of the world-famous monuments behind them. If people whine I edit them out of the final video. A lot of people are paranoid these days. Using a tiny camera helps avoid attracting unwanted attention.

Goldenberg's, the place you say was closed for health violations, was a famous Jewish restaurant which was bombed by terrorists a number of years ago. It was then moved elsewhere in Paris.
@Mxsmanic
@Mxsmanic 10 жыл бұрын
Goldenberg's was always in the same location. It was closed on multiple occasions due to health violations. The owner finally decided to sell the store, because the cost of bringing the location up to meet the health code was more than the place was worth. But it never changed locations, not even after the terrorist attack. It's a clothing store now, but the facade has been preserved.

@Mxsmanic: I notice an absence of a significant amount of fat people like in the U.S. Would you say the French are healthier? Also women tend to be stylish.
@michellemobakeng5938
@michellemobakeng5938 4 жыл бұрын
It's not the stylishness I have known. Have a good look, most of the women were trousers, jeans to be precise, just like the men. French men used to be slick. Not anymore. French people have been losing a lot at the introduction of the Euro in 2000, to the destruction of 'made in France' great cut-great fabric fashion, to chinese and casual american (anglo-saxon) imports. There has been a great loss in elegance. That's the way things are going.

Obesity is far less common in France than in the U.S. (in fact, it's less common just about everywhere outside the U.S.). Lifestyle is probably the main reason. French women do take a greater interest in fashion, for better or for worse. If you see a young woman on the street in Paris, and she's fat or wearing flip-flops, she's almost certainly American (or in any case probably not French).

+Mxsmanic I have enjoyed your video. Come to the UK and you will see obesity, across the population. Actually, the rate of obesity and overweight is UK 63.8% compared to USA 68.1% and France 52.7%. I add Australia 64.0%. However, the highest rate goes to Egypt 70.9%. These figures were compiled in 2015 from the Guardian article "How obese is the UK? and how does it compare to other countries?"
