I love old Marantz gear. I have an old SR4400 6.1 surround. I run my Rega P1 through it. Sounds really good.

I am looking forward to this project! I bought my first piece of audio in 1975 when I was in the Navy and had my first real spending money. 168 bucks every two weeks! Since then I bought many amps and receivers from many companies but I never Marantz because the specs never "measured up to the others". My son gave me a 2220b about 10 years ago and I kicked myself. I never knew what I was missing. I love the Marantz sound!

I was listening to my 2245 last night. After the restore, it really is special.

I'm glad you're rebuilding this amp. When we sold the Marantz 1060 in our stores, back in the 1970's, it had an unacceptably high failure rate. I don't remember exactly why. It was built like a tank though. That anodized champaign gold faceplate was killer. 😃

I not 100% sure, but I think it's the resistors behind the heatsinks failing from temps. This causes a chain reaction of other parts failing too. I've seen this concerning the 1060 on Audiokarma a few times. There may be other reasons. I'm replacing these resistors with high quality/temp military spec resistors made by Vishay. I may replace every resistor on the power amplifier board with high quality replacements.

Thanks for the tour. I have 2 of these in original condition and I've lifted the cover to clear the dust and always wondered what all that stuff is. May I ask what is a suitable lube for the switches as a couple of mine are a little sticky. Looking forward to your next video on this one.

2 of them must be nice! I'm going to do a separate video on cleaning and lubricating the switches. It will come out in about 5-6 weeks.

Why would anyone want a mono just left or right?

@@LawsonsStudio That’s a good question and I don’t have an answer for it.
