It’s a cool watch but WAY too expensive for what it is. I’d much rather get a Hamilton for that price. The size is much more appropriate on that 38mm case.

With the CWC G10 Fatboy being my all time favourite watch case design, I can't help keep being drawn to this one. I will confess it's the lug width that has always stopped me buying but I think I will buckle at some point.

Yeah the lug opening is pretty small compared to what I'm used to but you do get used to it. A bund strap might work to beef up the look.

Being a lume nut I don't know if I would love the all night glow of the tritium tubes or disappointed that they aren't as bright .

This is a military specification general service wristwatch in the tradition of the watches manufactured for US Serivcemen and pilots from WW2 through Vietnam. The specs on the back of the case are the military specifications. This watch is actually tested to 50M WR. It exceeds the military specification in this regard. I agree that 100M would be more appropriate for a modern field watch, and this can be achieved readily using modern materials and manufacturing techniques. Unfortunately, the military specifications have not caught up with the technology, yet. Up through the Vietnam conflict, the GS field watch was intended to be disposable. It was intended to be economical to mass produce, and rugged enough to last a couple of years if not submerged. But today, with a price point of $650.00 these criteria are no longer practical. At this price point, I expect the case to protect the movement even in a damp or wet environment for a decade at a minimum. Marathon needs to increase the WR of this watch if they want to be competitive in the consumer marketplace. There are two critical 2 attributes that distinguish this watch from offerings by competitors such as Hamilton. 1) It is of a traditional size for a general service field watch, and 2) It has tritium tubes.

the case looks so unquie compared to many field watches... this is a nice option compared to Marathon mid size GSAR, which I really like...but is more $$$... I have this constant nightmare I get a Marathon with tritium tubes and can't get it past security check in airport because it is radioactive, and have to leave it behind... yikes... not sure how you got it at that price... I see it listed close to $900 CAD.

I own this watch and I hate it for one reason. All my other beautiful watches have not seen daylight since I’ve had this watch. I cannot take it off , I mean seriously it does everything I want in a watch and so much more. I’ve always purchased watches from 40mm to 46mm and above. Now I cannot imagine going back to the larger watches. This wears like 36mm and I forget it’s on my wrist.

I really love the look and quality of Marathon watches, but one thing that really bugs me (just as in Hamilton's case) is the water resistance. For a mil-spec watch at that price, it should have at least a 100 meters. Imagine buying a 600 dollar military watch and it breaks down after a long swim... Putting my personal moans and niggles aside, Marathon do make amazing watches, probably the best at what they do.

Just get the GSAR/MSAR. It is mil issued and has the WR. As far as mil spec, it is mil spec lol the army recognizes that pilots and infantry, tanker and scouts aren’t combat divers and don’t need that. Usually a tanker or infantry men that finds himself 100 meters or around 300ft below the water is dead. The same reason pilots don’t get issued boots that are good for walking, even though you would assume a pilot that is crashed and evading would need good boots for walking. They get issued flame resistant cold weather boots. So pilots have to source their own comfortable rucking or walking boots to make evading easier for training or worst case real world. Ask me how I know.. Also I’ve never, ever been issued a watch…ever. I do wear a MSAR and a Damasko DS30. But I got those with my own money and after doing my own research. The marathon is truly Mil-Spec and is within the supply system, but units are unlikely to approve an order of 600$ watches when considering how many they would need to order

correct...a 3 atm in modern times is strictly no go. its has Sapphire glass, steel case but a miserable 3 ATm water resisting rating???? Nowadays a casio is mostly rated 10ATM.

I’ve searched a lot and I’m not aware of any. Can you name some, please? The important details for me are: small size, the nice depth of view with those hands, an ETA or comparable mechanical movement, lug width not larger than 18mm, no leather strap. Plus the excellent legibility this watch has down to the seconds hand in the dark, unlike a „normal“ watch. And this within the same price range and fairly easily available, please. Which other watch do you recommend fulfilling all of these needs?
