We masters runners definitely need to gradually increase intensity in order to allow our bodies to adapt. An old friend of mine used to say, “Train, don’t strain.”

Can’t wait to start some speed work after my current base building easy mileage mesocycle. Great breakdown of what the VO2max goal is and why you should ease into it.

The terrific triad does it again!! BTW, I can't seem to get my HR up to VO2max with the 1 min repeats, even high numbers. I think I have only been close in recent years at an all out 10k race on a hilly course in the final push. I'll keep trying.

Thabks marsha! It's virtually impossible to get hr up with short intervals. We just use these short ones as a part of the build up to longer intervals up to 1k to get HR to vo2max.

Hiii allheart I’ve lately been struggling with running. I improved my mile but it’s been a long time since I ran&workout. It has been 3 weeks without training and 13 more days till track tryouts. I don’t know what to do, I feel so lazy😭😢

2 weeks is plenty of time to get your groove back! no better time to restart than now. let's go!
