I just do a 3-4:1 ratio of easy running and speed workouts depending on the event I am training for. It has worked for me. For easy runs, I just do time like 60 minutes easy. For my speed runs, I do them by distance. 400s, 800s, 1k, 1 mile, 2 mile reps, 5k reps, 8k reps, or 10k reps. I don’t really subscribe to the 80/20 rule. I just move runs around. If I have a long run workout, I would reduce my easy runs instead of 3-4, I would only do 1-2 max that week to put more effort on the long run workout. I could careless how much total mileage I do that week just as long as I am nailing the workout because you’ll get gains there.

3.5 to 1 ratio is awesome while staying injury free. i'm guessing you supplement with strength training. keep up the awesome work and thanks for the breakdown, ben!
