@gatokatana personally i would recommend waiting another 6 months or until the game is released. The devs abandoned a game in the past and the player numbers especially since the wipe has been going down.
@stephenmisener1659

@gatokatana It varies between 600-1000 players a day now. So it is declining. Not to say you wont find a match, but youll start going up against the same people more. These same people are also going to be the vet players so that might turn you off as well. Id honestly wait to see what happens, these devs have dropped a game mid development before so its risky.

The servers seem much better now than portrayed in this video, as I started during the last major update and haven't experienced any of those issues. Bringing in a ship is still pointless. Also, I'm at three of eight commando majors slain! Big milestone! I think there are three major problems with ships right now that get in the way of the enjoyment: 1. It's not practical to bring loot back to your ship's storage; if you can make it back to your ship with a sack full of loot, you might as well leave anyway. This can be resolved by having item-drop points in the POI that funnel items directly to your ship storage to make them worthwhile. 2. Ships are too useful as extended stash storage. All of my ship slots are dedicated to holding more items, so I never have an opportunity to use other ships. 3. Breach spawns can be camped. It's not fun to instantly die upon boarding someone's ship.

Same. Hunt's never felt so good, and I don't expect it to be dethroned from the top of my library in the foreseeable future. BUT, Marauders looks like it has a truly kickass developer behind it, so I imagine it'll become a worthy contender sooner or later. Plus, I think that a few more solid extraction shooters will be good for the genre as a whole, anyway. Hunt, The Cycle, Tarkov, Warzone, etc. are all different enough that the genre's under-served, by my estimate. I think there are a ton of CoD players out there who want something more out of their FPS, but are driven away from extraction shooters by steep (read: "painful") learning curves and heavy emphases on loot grinds or other "hardcore" features that can end up distracting from the action. My contention is that if Marauders can really nail the execution of its vision, it could become one of the most approachable extraction shooters while maintaining the depth and tension that keep people coming back. It'd be a great gateway in that respect. Plus it's dieselpunk in space. Everyone loves space, and dieselpunk is far from overdone in current gaming. I see a bright future for this game.

My friends and I have been having a blast in this game so far and I couldn't agree more with the things said in this video. The atmospher and tension while in fire fights and the lack of ui to distiguish friend from foe makes for an experience that I haven't had in gaming. We tend to play it like you would expect a R6 Seige match to go based solely off it's first trailers. Breach, clear, loot every room until we've got our fill. Acting like tactical goblins taking most anything not bolted down. I'm thankful that the newist update seems to be moving into the right direction, adding some more space hostiles and the like. I can't wait to see where they take the game and hope it thrives (and not just because I spent a small fortune getting it for my friends this Chrstmas lol).

most of the things were fixed in health update as for crashing some people swear to crash every hour i crashed once in my 30 hours playthrough so it propably varies greatly from person to person as for the quests they completely re-did it now you dont have daily quest for specific thing or specific map you just get 3 random quests when entering raid (and these quests are always doable on the map you are on)

Gear fear is not a thing in this game. Which is needed in a game like this. Been playing since closed alpha and I’ve done everything this game has to offer. It gets old fast. The new update helped but they have been so slow with updates. 1 major update since release. This company has a reputation of making a game and giving up on the game. Already looking meek. Gameplay loop gets old way to quick. Gear doesn’t matter much cause you can easily get the guns back in a single raid.

Guess you haven’t played as of December 14th. The Red Baron update was just released with a wipe and crazy changes. Now there are always two main places to land with the chance of the Red Baron boss ship spawning. They completely overhauled daily contracts turning them into raid missions that depend on what maps are in your raid also changed the zero to hero missions. Bunch more stuff as well. Great review otherwise not trying to be a douche hope you make one addressing the new update!

This game is fun, and I enjoy it, but I'm hesitant to put more time in until it's stable. I'm not amazing and I'm newer at the game, so losing stuff impacts me pretty hard at the moment. I entered a game after buying a scout frigate and getting a mac-10 out of a crate. I was excited, and as soon as I docked I crashed. 30k of my starting 65k gone, and the weapon I was excited to use. It just really killed my experience. The game is great, but losing my stuff when I did nothing wrong really bugged me.

hey man after watching your vid at one point in the video, you point out that ship on ship combat doesnt happen much where as from my experience i have noticed the opposite, almost every game i go into im being attacked by other players ships and me and my friends all working together to take down other players ships, the most fun i have in this game is the sea of thiefs moments of " do we try boarding do we try gunning down the other player, do we run away and catch them with their pants down," its a pretty fun moment when your unsure what to do but in a split second you deside "yes board them" and when it pays off oh man is that the best feeling you can have in this game. your other points though are solid! great video man!!

Both when working are some of the best times I have had in a video game but when the don't work it can be the most frustrating thing imaginable. Small Edit: Omg it would be sooo cool if you could personalize your ship and have that as the main progression. Like how EFT has the hideout Marauders can have your ship.

great video loved it. I think that you hit almost everything that I want but there's a few you missed for me. More in depth gun customization would be cool, attachments like sights and grips, skins (not paywall but similar to the current skins) I really wish they had faction specific questlines which I imagine might eventually be integrated. More POI specific events like keycards or other things. Lastly I think that a game wide market would be cool but only for specific items such as ship customization and high tier weapon attachments or coins to get into the locked rooms which could be sold for a lot of creds. But the game for how long it's been out is in a fantastic state I think

I JUST picked this game up, and I can say that a lot of bugs have been worked out. Servers are hit n miss still, AI can still be weird and glitchy, footsteps or audio could use a tad bit more precision, and inventory still bugs around. But the only thing I've never lost was rocket artillery, which was attached to my ship, as well as losing my ship and being replaced with the same model, but diff name. The game is amazing and has so much potential to expand, but it definitely needs more.

Just picked it up a week ago and am having a blast running solos. This game is simple right now but I am hoping it expands further. The one MAJOR thing I hate about Looter extraction shooters is the wait time in between matches. Loading in EFT feels like I am waiting for paint to dry just to get shot in the first min of spawning. COuld 5 mins, could be 30. In marauders I click raid and boom in a min I am instantly loaded in and going, no lonnnnngg wait times.

having a capital frigate changes the space combat for the better. Having two turrets makes for a fun ride for crews and the value of the ship itself makes space combat happen through pure greed from the competition. Taking other ships is still interesting if you fill the ship inventory, but this is only achievable once you're late game enough to get ships reliably. Also, if the game could stop deleting my compact containers that'd be great.

There should be a damage pre-req before you can breach a player ship. Like 50-75% or less hull integrity before you can breach. Taking a ship into a raid is just super risky, even with a crew, because then you just get constant breachers looking to snag your ship.

Maybe they can make ships the long haul progression. Ships are upgradeable and the higher level/more expensive ships can "mount" more upgrades or able to use the better weapons. You don't lose the ship if its taken maybe just lose the upgrades on it but those who steal it won't keep it after that match but pocket the upgrades. Maybe they can add more challenges for ship combat or just add more AI to fight against out in space. Maybe limit the amount of player ships that can dock in a station forcing the rest to leave their ship vulnerable and at risk outside and use the pods to get inside the station. Maybe ship combat can reward scrap that can be used along cash to buy or maybe even craft upgrades for the ships.

@CetomimusGillii

Anyone Disney would trust with such a Star Wars game would almost certainly bungle it, but it's fun to imagine what that could be like at its best. One of my favorite games as a kid was SW X-Wing Alliance, and I'm now addicted to Hunt: Showdown. Oh how I'd love to see the two combined. Getting to buy an old Assault Transport or light freighter and kitting it out for a new life of crime would be plenty fun in itself. Combine that with proper Star Wars space combat and some halfway decent shooting and looting, and you've got an instant classic. I fear that nobody at Disney would greenlight something that good without somehow compromising it, but one can dream.

@@MedjayofFaiyum Yeah, can't think of the last AAA game I thought was actually good. I guess Elden Ring? Most companies are too busy trying to make the next Genshin or FIFA to consider gameplay before monetization, though. Hopefully the sure profitability of quality microtransaction-free titles like Elden Ring, Metal Gear Solid V, and Breath of the Wild will start to appear more attractive to the industry than the slight chance of striking it big on an aggressively-monetized pile of mediocrity. Again, we can hope. Also Bulletproof Babies has a great Hunt review. Check it out, I've played very little else for the last couple years, with no regrets. It's got its share of warts, but the game's quite stable and the fights are indescribably intense snowflakes. Beautiful, fleeting fractals of crystalized violence that will remind you that video games are supposed to be fun; and they still can be. I dig it, anyway.

Excellent work! You know someone really loves something when they're willing to constructively criticize the ever-lovin' astronaut sauerkraut out of it. The suggestions for improvement are particularly stirring... I can see this game exploding if a few of them are implemented; and I hope that happens. I wasn't really expecting to come away swayed, since I'd internalized misconceptions (such as an impression of a crushing, grind-inducing delta in gear power, a la The Cycle) from the skin-deep and frankly misrepresentative Tarkov comparisons that dominate the discussion of this game (and most extraction shooters, I suppose.) However, your erudite enthusiasm is contagious as ever, and I went from relative ambivalence to eagerly awaiting news on a full release; hopefully incorporating many of your suggestions. Fingers crossed! Good thing my 2-year Hunt binge hasn't wrapped up yet, or I might have trouble waiting for Marauders 1.0

Lol you want a banging menu song...like Tarkov XD I enjoy both tarkov when I have time to dedicate to playing only Tarkov and nothing else. And marauders for the similar experience but for quick fun. I also completely agree about the space combat being effectively pointless at this junction in the game. And the few times I've gotten into fights it's been really fun. They could take more inspiration from Tarkov and maybe give people 2 characters a Marauder and a Solider and the soldiers would spawn after the marauders but they'd be allied and try to stop the marauders from leaving either just in space or on the station as well. I don't think it's a bad thing for a game to take inspiration from another as long as the take the idea and make it their own.

Good review. Love this game, so worth its cheap Early Access price. Perfect for when you need a less stressful break from Tarkov, which makes it complimentary for me. Taking a break as I've just discovered HLL but will definitely come back to it soon. I hope it keeps evolving. Phillip.

Yeah I really enjoy this game but sometimes it just makes no sense. Sometimes bullets don’t count , you’ll spawn in half health, or you’ll simply spawn I. With nothing (even though you were kitted prior to loading in) has its ups and downs but overall I really enjoy the game. Has god potential.

I freaking LOVE this game, but the crashing issue has me holding off on trying it again. I want to go back but the threat of crashing and losing everything is too concerning. Not to mention, I did meet a hacker, he was teleporting around or hiding in a wall and one shotting everyone. Lastly, check the leaderboards after you die, I've been killed by people in the top 20 twice... Kind of nuts how someone just starting out can face literally the best players in the game.

Wish DMZ would take some damn notes as far as the inventory system outside of the game. It definitely has a lot to desire. Very bare bones. And that's a AAA title with shit ton of devs and a shit ton of money. Then you have something like this very small team looks gorgeous has an amazing GP loop and listen to the community

I feel like Tarkov is like the Pubg of Extraction shooters. Sort of the baseline of the genre. So now it’s Tarkov in space, or Tarkov in Louisiana.

Interesting, I've got a different read on this. Don't take this as a rant, and skip to the TLDR if you don't care, but as an armchair game dev I've just been thinking a lot about the extraction shooter market and the design choices that set each title apart, so I have a lot of thoughts on this. My take is that the extraction shooter genre is terribly under-served, Exhibit A being just how different each game within actually plays. Tarkov may be the most recognized fixture in the genre, but I think it's hard to call it a baseline. The detail of the weapon customization, ballistics, and medical systems all make for a far grittier, more grounded, simulationist approach to the genre. I haven't played Tarkov myself, but from my friends who have, I gather that one can't take a .50-110 Sharps LRN bullet to the heart point blank, through nothing but a gingham shirt, and shake it off by wrapping a bandage around their wrist. More importantly though, Tarkov has a fairly large emphasis on loot, and not all extraction shooters do. For Marauders, it sounds like loot doesn't translate quite so readily to increased combat power as it can in Tarkov, but is still an important part of the gameplay loop. By my estimation, this puts Marauders towards the middle of a spectrum of "Loot vs. Shoot" within the genre. On one end you've got Hunt, where picking up gear in the game world is of minimal consequence, (your character doesn't even an inventory) and a $1250 gun can easily be outmatched by a $36 breach-loading musket in many scenarios. On the other end you have The Cycle, which by most accounts demands dozens of hours of loot grind for the purchase competitive gear. From what I know, it's fair to place Tarkov somewhere between Marauders and The Cycle, as I gather that expensive gear gives you a massive advantage, but losing it potentially means hours of wealth-building erased. Each in turn has gunplay that tends to feel quite different from the others, in large part due to their respective level of importance placed on loot/the metagame. Generally, combat tends to become less skill-based where the importance of loot increases. Beyond the differences in their core looting and extraction mechanics that make them an extraction shooter in the first place, there's a lot more to contrast. For example, some let you fly spaceships and some let you throw jars of eldritch wasps to sting your enemies into submission. To me, all of this indicates that there's plenty of room left at the table for more extraction shooters. Many people play more than one despite the investment required by each game's unique learning curve. They simply scratch different itches. Thus, I think each new extraction shooter benefits the others, as more attention appears to bring more players to them all. Hunt and Tarkov at least (maybe Cycle too, not sure) have both faced dangerous dips in their player counts before later rebounding with more than ever. Part of this is due to updates, sure, but a lot of anecdotal evidence suggests that people trying different games within the genre bolsters attention (and therefore new player count) of the genre as a whole. This effect seems to be strong enough that these games are at a net positive even when loyalty of old players ebbs. For example, neither Hunt nor Tarkov's player count suffered much after the Warzone 2 launch, and I personally saw an unmistakable spike in the number of new players I was encountering in Hunt during that time. TLDR: A rising tide lifts all boats. And since the extraction shooter genre is relatively new and lacking in competition, more boats means more tide, for the time being. Dayum, if you actually read this, thanks for reading! I'm interested in other takes on this topic too, so fire away if you're inclined.

@@CetomimusGillii I agree. I’m not trying to say any of them are too derivative or basic. PUBG wasn’t necessary the most basic BR and there were some other BR attempts around the same time, but it was the game that really set off the trend. Tarkov seems to be the same way, basically defining the genre, so you can take someone who hasn’t heard of Hunt or Marauders and say “it’s like tarkov, but…” and they’ll understand.
@CetomimusGillii
@CetomimusGillii Жыл бұрын
@@crabbowiththestabbo Ahh, yeah fair enough. You're right, Tarkov's pervasiveness makes it an useful reference point, despite how different it's gameplay can be from titles that are, on paper, adjacent. That's actually the best sign that the genre is underdeveloped. A Metroidvania tends to feel much more like their namesakes in moment-to-moment gameplay than any given extraction shooter does to another. 30ish years have left Castlevania enjoyers with no shortage of similarly-styled games despite the truly punishing nature of the originals. Similarly, I think in time we'll get more approachable games that still manage to leverage extraction gameplay loops. but due to the cultural significance of Tarkov, it may be a decade or two before the Tarkov comparisons lose their meaning. Interesting thought.

Good to know, the bugs have been one of the main things holding me back. I'm a Hunt: Showdown simp, but I really think there need to be more good games in the "extraction shooter" genre, so I hope Marauders makes good on its potential. With any luck, I think it could become an excellent gateway to the genre, as well as a top-tier game in its own right

Subbed. I kinda like how the game looks. Currently I play a lot of Foxhole. Would you be interested in that kind of game? It is something different and it does not look like a James Cameron movie, but it is the most fun and challenge I ever had since my first time playing Planetside 2. One of the hardest, but also most accesible games ever and after playing for over 100 hours and active since War 98 I can only recommend it. Best teamwork game ever?!

While I love the concept of Marauders, it feels like it's a game at 30%. I know it is early-access, and things can change. I hope the devs make the game grow, but right now I can play it for maybe 2 hours without getting incredibly bored and switching to another game. One thing I have to say, getting into a match is FAST. Even more so when you compare it to Tarkov

All I read in the Steam reviews are “hackers” and “if the game crashes there’s no rejoin feature so time is wasted.” DRG and Tarkov both have rejoin features, Vermintide 2 didn’t but now Darktide does Every game should have it, mandatory.
