Thanks Sal , I'm building a niche with marble sides and marble shelves in the niche in our shower that looks similar to the one your doing , my question is it looks like the marble shelves are resting directly on the marble sides without a grout lines above and below the ends of the shelves , is it ok to have the marble to marble touching or should I build the sides with spaced grout lines where the sides meet the shelves above and below ? thanks .

What’s the reasoning for putting the back wall tile piece first before the bottom shelf? Strictly curiosity. Figure less chance of water penetration if back shelf was on top of bottom shelf.
@MooseDoesStuff2 жыл бұрын
Is the shelf in the niche two sided, or with the slope and the angle do we just expect never to see the bottom?

Hi Sal. What determines where to start tiling on the inside of the niche? One video you did the bottom first then the mosaic. In this video you did the mosaic first then the bottom. I’m using a stone mosaic should be done first or second? Thank you for your help and I love watching your videos. They are so helpful!

If you have waterproofed properly makes no difference what you do first as long as it is neat.

Hi Sal, with the marble shelf, is it the wall tile you have cut down to size? and is it the standard thickness of around 10mm? You do amazing work my friend 👍

I love watching video's of tile jobs with seats and niche and this guy nails it . Best vid I've by a good tiler but did you water proof your walls before hand? Other than waterproofing it's a great job! Just as good as i would've done .

@SalDiBlasi9 жыл бұрын
get references from people that your perspective installer has worked for in the past. Ask people who they have used in the past, but ultimately there is no foolproof way. Where are you located, i may be able to recommend someone.

Hi there I saw the outside corner cut a 90 degree angle then fill the tiny gap and Polished the corner perfeeccion round corner. It looks like 1 tile the hole corner. Any idea how to do that or have you done it in other videos. Your videos are awesome by the way!!

Hi Sal, Awesome job. Do you leave an 1/8 inch gap last row of tile against the shower pan or run tile tight to floor?
@SalDiBlasi10 жыл бұрын
Where tile meets tile in a corner you always want to leave a small space.

I need a marble shelf like this but I have no idea how to go about looking for ones specifically for showers. What are they called other than a niche shelf? Where would I find one? Thanks!
@SalDiBlasi7 жыл бұрын
I made these, I did not buy them.
@erazzid10 жыл бұрын
Sal, I meant where your last course hits the floor of the shower. Or run it tight to the floor? Leave a gap there? 1/8??
@SalDiBlasi10 жыл бұрын
You always want to leave a gap between surfaces, whether it be tile or not.

I had one more question, when using porcelain tile, what size spacing should i be trying to leave for my grout in the niche? It looks like with your 45 angle cuts there's not much room for a lot of grout? thanks
@SalDiBlasi8 жыл бұрын
A 1/16" will work, or larger if you like the look.

@Dabblefarm8 жыл бұрын
one more simple question, on the niche self with mosaic back, do you like to cut your niche shelf piece to go all the way back to the rear of the niche, or do you cut it where it stays in front of the mosaic? or in other words do you cut the mosaic so the niche shelf can slide through it, then just stack the mosaic on to of the self?
@SalDiBlasi8 жыл бұрын
Either way, except the middle shelf, which you want to support on 3 sides.

Hi Sal, Do you have a favorite tile for the walls and shower floors? I'm looking for something durable, affordable, and easy to work with - leaning toward porcelain.
@SalDiBlasi10 жыл бұрын
Porcelain will be the most durable, with the most choices, I really don't have a Favorite tile, but i do like the beauty of natural stones., which would not be a first choice if durability and low maintenance were the main consideration.
@brotherjoeradosti10 жыл бұрын
***** I'm thinking of going with Kerdi for my shower. Do you favor Kerdi Board over the cement board? I'm also thinking about using the Kerdi pre-fab shower tray. What do you think?
@SalDiBlasi10 жыл бұрын
Schluter has some great products, you will have to decide whether you want to save time or money. Traditional showers are more labor intensive, kerdi is more expensive.
@brotherjoeradosti10 жыл бұрын
***** I want to make it waterproof. Just thinking there is less chance of error going with Kerdi.
@SalDiBlasi10 жыл бұрын
brotherjoeradosti you can achieve a waterproof bathroom with both types of instalations, here is one i did Tile Shower Failure and repair. Part 2 Waterproofing if you are asking what i would use in my own bathroom, then it would probably be Schluter systems. Beyond Schluter there are a multitude of other water profing systems like Nobel and Wedi to name just a coulpe.

tHE QUESTION MARK WAS A MISTAKE , SORRY
@mikecurranto41886 жыл бұрын
why did you place the back piece in first? The bottom needs to slope towards the shower, then the bottom piece of tile, then the back, sides, top. putting the back in first will cause leaks. Just sayin.
@SalDiBlasi6 жыл бұрын
The shower is completely waterproof, makes no difference what the order is, unless you are not waterproofing your shower, and then you are just putting a bandaid on a bullet hole.
@RCCRAZYSTUPID4 жыл бұрын
Why does tile stick to the ceiling but on the Nich you need to put a support to hold top piece? Thanks
@SalDiBlasi4 жыл бұрын
The ceiling is horizontal so the tile will not slide.
