If you put an arch over top of the spring and the magnet slots for the damper lever, you can switch from manual playing to set and forget function in a much easier and quicker motion. It will eliminate the chance of lifting the lever up too high and missing the slot you are changing to or the lever getting bound up. The arch would act as a guide so all you have to do is push the lever up and over without having to pay attention to how you are moving it. Just a thought to increase the playability of the machine. Awesome job with the machine by the way. I love seeing engineering like this and the thought process and details that go into making a machine of this type is amazing.

@louisdurand4567 3 жыл бұрын
If we say r is the radius from the center of the shaft (at coordinates (0,0)) to the bar attachment, L the length of the bar and a is the angle of the shaft, I think the expression for the height of the sliding extremity of the bar would be something like: h(a) = r*[sin(a) + sqrt((L/r)^2 - cos(a)^2)] I'll try to plot it with different value to see how it looks ^^ But what we can observe is that if L is very long compared to r, we would approach this expression which is a pure sine with an offset : h(a) ~ r*sin(a) + L
@Anon54387

@@Suppenfischeintopf Right. If there was a sliding mechanism that kept the rod driving the piston centered underneath it then it'd be a sine wave.
@Kataclysm113
@Kataclysm113 3 жыл бұрын
@@Anon54387 if i understood the last 3 comments somewhat correctly, to get a perfect sine wave you'd need to replace the rod with some sort of upside-down T shaped mechanism so that the difference in height between the piston and the attachment to the crank shaft remains constant, and said attachment point slides back and forth along the horizontal part of the T. did i understand all of that, more or less?

The nagging question that keeps coming up over the last year of watching is, "How are you going to transport this machine around the world safely?" I might have mentioned it in other comments sections and maybe it is answered elsewhere, but I keep seeing elements that are so breakable in transportation, I'm worried about you having to fix things between performances and going absolutely crazy and being sick with stress. Great work though, I love how close to completion this is getting and I'm inspired by your transformation into such an organizational master. Keep it up, Martin!

MrMats0n yes, I agree, it would need 5o have multiple stable positions, but this current solution sticks out horribly from the meticulous engineering that has gone into every other part of the MMX. If I were to design it, I would be a single channel with 4 ball detents and a connector bar that is two thicknesses. One thickness that exactly fits the channel width and will engage the detents, and another that is slightly narrower and can float freely. The connector bar is attached to a handle and can be pulled or pushed to engage the different thicknesses.there only needs to be a cm or two of movement in or out.

I don't think it's that big of a problem because it's happening pretty much when only a few marbles are going through the system. As more marbles come through, they occupy the rest of the shuttles. I could see a possible problem if they are mostly taken to the higher area on the marble divider since the left most notes won't get as many marbles, but assuming the machine is mostly filled with marbles while playing, the fishstair should fix that problem by recycling the extras.
