Welcome to my tutorial on marbling with fingernail polish! In this video, I'm going to show you how to create beautiful marbled designs using fingernail polish and warm water. All you need is a tub of warm water, some fingernail polish (I borrowed mine from my daughter's room!), and regular cardstock. Watch as I dip the cardstock into the warm water and the fingernail polish to create a stunning marbled design. I'm no scientist, but I think this is what happens when you drop the fingernail polish in the water. Check out the video to see the results! #marbling #fingernailpolish #diy #crafts #cardstock #warmwater #tutorial

My favorite way of marbling paper is using alcohol inks with shaving cream/ foam. Spray the shaving cream into a shallow glass (12x12 or 8x13). Add drops of ink and swirl with a toothpick/ popsicle stick, then slide paper into foam or just lay on top. Then pull out and using a spatula, scrape off foam. Awesome outcomes with every sheet.

Do you use alcohol inks or reinkers with the shaving cream? I’ve seen it with reinkers but never with alcohol ink.

I used to do this with reinkers and shaving cream. Take a pan and spray shaving cream in it to make about an inch to an inch and a half thick and drop a few drops of reinker fluid and swirl around. Put the paper face down on the cream and press gently. Pick up and scrape the cream off and let dry. Gives great results

I saw this technique with nail polish a while back on another channel, and I ran and grabbed my nail polishes (some over 20 years old!) and went to town! I think I used old school printer photo paper too. I didn't make any cards right away, so I put the panels in my stash. When I pulled them out, I did not like the smell of them! Maybe it was that some were 20 years old or the old photo paper or both! 🤣I recently did some purging, and threw out all those old polishes, but I am happy to know that alcohol inks actually turned out pretty cool on the regular cardstock, so thanks for that! It's a lot faster than actual alcohol ink blowing in a pinch! Can't wait to see the cards you make out these panels! 😁

Yupo is 100% plastic (no actual paper). I think it works pretty well with a tiny bit of ink or nail polish in the water, just a few drops and if you want, swirl it around with a plastic knife or popsicle stick or something.

These were amazing (with the nail polish!) I love them all, but my most favourites were the two that you dipped at the same time and the last one. One question, what do you do with all the backgrounds you make? I am trying to follow your techniques and find I am accumulating quite a few, but am unsure o how to turn them into cards. Excuse me if you have already covered this in the past, but I am a new subscriber. Thank you for sharing your wonderful techniques! 👍💖

Ihace to try this technique with nail polish. Question, have you tried using this technique with watercolor paper? Also, how did you get reg cardstock flat and how is the feel of it?
@LaurelBeard

you could certainly use watercolor paper. I actually ironed my warped cardstock flat... Then it was back to normal. The Yupo was certainly the less finicky with this technique, but also the most expensive. LOL!

WOW after THAT awesome Video, I’m a NEW Subbie! However I do have a question, WHERE do you get that special paper you mentioned & I couldn’t understand the actual name. I looked to see if I could order it through you but didn’t see it? Also, how does one flatten out the regular card stock paper after it’s dried, I noticed that the special paper didn’t ruffle up.. TYIA for your help.

Yupo Paper: amzn.to/3On13rQ I flattened the cardstock by putting heavy stuff on top of it overnight. You can also just iron it, just put a towel or something between the paper and the Iron.

Im not sure but looks like there might be something wrong with your alcohol inks as they seem dried up, particularly on the second attempt, there are congealed blobs floating. This could account for the poorer results. But the nail polish way is fantastic so if it aint broke 💅🏻 simply gorgeous
