As a youth, I would always wonder how the Black people felt in class when the history teacher talked about slavery? It made them sound weak and broken. There were never stories about their purpose on our soil other than to plow the land and toil. I’d put $ on the fact that Black students must have felt shame and uncomfortable in those classes. This is indeed happening, and this is what they want to ban. Whether it's technically considered CRT or not is completely irrelevant. @Daniel Berger Using the title of a respected work to address a separate issue only adds confusion. We have established that prisons are the modern convict leasing and the resulting effects are Jim crow-esk with related issues and a connected history. CRT is the idea that we should see how race impacts the function of institutions. CRT doesn't define race but looks at how racial power is exerted. The definition of racism is faulty and reliance on it is a result of whiteness. The way words function in a dictionary only gives us a limited conception of how they work in the real world. Dictionaries are theoretical by nature, connotation and denotation also inform interpretation. Racism in America denotes a system that benefits white people and teaches them to recreate patterns that disadvantage many other groups. Racisms connotation is that black people will not be as prosperous as their white peers (as a group) even when doing the same or more work ( slavery, sharecropping, Jim crow etc) Race impacts education, health (covid had black ppl dying bad), work, social esteem and life outcomes. The same criticisms the black community are raising now have been raised in every era of black life and the same people still wish to "set a timetable for another man's freedom" Lastly the racial education we lack is part of the problem. White people have maintained a racial ignorance that is often used to pretend as if they cannot see the wrong. This has sucked energy out of the black community that could be used to create independent institutions. Because black people have fought pretty hard to be friends and neighbors with white people we end up in these situations. It seems that the only time white masses can see racism is when they feel impacted.
@user-jv8kr4im1t3 жыл бұрын

Not everyone can become Marc Lamont Hill. There is only so much room for these social commentator types in our society! It's a joke because hardly anyone values those fields in the marketplace. Those are status degrees that don't mean much financially. For example, I have a master's degree in psychology. It was the biggest mistake of my life. Do you know what CTR is. The host gave a complicated picture of CTR that had no meat on it. I can simply explain a major part of CTR that has people so angry. CTR has a new definition of racism therefore almost all Americans and most American laws and custom become racist. CTR views Black people less as individuals and more as a group. Racism is about power not evil thinking. With the new definition almost no Black people can be racist The average white person dose not hate people due to their DNA or color and American law is colorblind. But according to CTR colorblindness is racist. Not wanting to learn CTR is racist. The only people who can mitigate the new racism are experts. Telling people who don’t hate Black people that they are racist is outrageous to them. If CRT was just a lesson on the full scope of American history, I would be all for it. However, it goes way beyond that. CRT paints every person with a monolithic brush based solely on their skin color, gender, and sexual orientation. It completely suppresses individual thought and personal experiences if those thoughts and expressed experiences don't conform to the categorical bin that CRT places you in. It thwarts diversity of opinion among people of the same ethic group, gender, and/or sexual orientation. If you really dive deep into CRT, you'll find that it has an uncanny resemblance to Marxism as the ideological line of thinking is nearly identical but is just applied to a different social issue. CRT explicitly divides people based on the color of their skin. From what I can tell, it is diametrically apposed to everything Martin Luther King stood for who dreamed that we would one day judge a man for his character and integrity rather than the color of his skin.

Vernon has the responsibility to elaborate on what critical race theory is- he, as a Representative, was campaigning on executively banning it. Why can't he define it? Does he know what it is? But my issue on this is...take a person like yourself, your a black successful man of color, what should be happening within these so-called communities of color is that these same successful people of color shouldn't be telling or pushing these policies on these communities...but rather teaching them how you as a black professional got to where you are today, Oprah Winfrey, Morgan Freeman, Bob Johnson, Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Justice Clarence Thomas and Condoleezza Rice, all these professional prominent, smart intelligent black people of color should use there abilities to lead and teach these young black children so they can become just as smart, creative and successful as yourselves.

@michaelm27723 жыл бұрын
Yeah, hard to understand why people would think CRT is being taught in the schools when the teachers union says they will defend it. The problem is that both sides stick to their talking points and ignpore the reality of the situation. Lamont is an educated man who knows alot about CRT, so for Vernon to act the way he did was completely wrong and really shows his ignoranace. However, Lamont is being disengenious to say that CRT is not being taught in schools. Technically he is right, CRT in it's orginal form is not being taught in the public schools, however, RT (race thinking without the critical part) is being taught. Teaching that America is still a sytemically racist and white supremacist country falls under the new modern ideology of CRT and is being taught in our schools. There are advocates who are pushing that the teaching of math is racist and says focusing on a right answer could be a form of white supremancy. So yes, that is not CRT, but this what they are trying to push into our schools. The left initially used the term CRT because it has a long estabilished history, sounds good, and is actually a good thing. But then when the right realized they really aren't teaching CRT, they are teaching just the RT part of it, the left now makes the arguement we aren't teaching "CRT" and wants to debate over the definition of CRT so they can say, "see we aren't teaching that". So it has become a game of semantics and both sides end up losing. www.edweek.org/teaching-learning/teachers-unions-vow-to-defend-members-in-critical-race-theory-fight/2021/07 katu.com/news/local/debate-emerges-over-racism-and-white-supremacy-in-math-instruction
