I saw Beefheart live in 1973. Nothing has ever come close. It was like being entertained by a superior intelligence from another planet. Not just Don, but the whole band. They were incredible. I thought, this is the music of the future, but the future turned out to be a bit of a disappoint compared to that night..

I saw Captain Beefheart and the original Magic Band in 1973 in Nottingham. After that, I never went to another concert again. The whole thing was mind boggling--the album tracks played note for note, three guitars playing distinct parts, the incredible drummer who seemed to play backwards, Beefheart booglarizing the room. He was amazed at how well we English kids knew his music. He would just point the mike at us and we'd scream his crazy lyrics back at him. He loved it! He had more fans in England than in USA

I started with that garbage can of an album (Bluejeans and Moonbeams that is) and it took me like at least 3 years to come back and find Trout Mask Replica and realize that Beefheart actually was good.

Yes. It was very organized, and bluesy and Trout Mask replica is overrated. It's a polarizing album. You either love it or hate it. Nonetheless, credit due to the ambition in the album. It's a reason to like it. But it's also a reason to hate it.

you cannot say anything is better than trout mask if U know music/ Safe As Milk is wonderful and absolutely easier to get a non beefheart person to enjoy BUT anyone who is open minded and even a little bit creative musically is blown away and knocked down by the unbelievable structure and complexity of the music and arrangements. Then if U can just stop freaking out on how no one else in the world ever sounded like that and just listen to the pure emotion of the music then go back and listen to all of his music its all amazing

Beefheart. First heard him at age 16, in the 70s. Bought it all up to that date and everything else after. The material is a pretty limited amount. The entire discography is on my phone for when jogging. It gets daily play on the hand-picked Spotify channel that was created. There was only one of that guy.

I grew up in Harlem the WHOLE FREAKING Neighborhood was Free Jazz. Ornette Coleman,Sun Ra,Cecil Taylor. I've never heard of Captain Beefheart until recently. He isn't FREE JAZZ BTW
@psychedelicpiper999 Жыл бұрын
@@tynitty516Damn, lucky. Now Harlem’s probably got nothing but autotuned trap music blasting. Such a sad state of affairs. And of course Beefheart isn’t free jazz, because it’s meticulously composed, but it’s heavily influenced by it nonetheless. I read Beefheart and the Magic Band played a show with Ornette Coleman, Charles Mingus, Joe Henderson, and others in the audience. They all respected what Beefheart was doing.

This reminds me when I was just getting into LED zeppelin and for some reason I couldn't tell what the words were to Stairway to heavens last couple verses. My friend needed a ride to the music store so I took him. When I walked in I saw all the music books. I asked my buddy "do they have the lyrics in books" . He said "yeah of coarse they do" and went off to do his thing. I'm thinking finally I can find out those lyrics. It was literally driving me nuts and I was excited to find what they were. After a few minutes I locate the book open it read them and I say out loud" I finally figured it out". I swear this store employee that looks like the one in the video materialized behind me and says "you didn't figure it out, you just read the book". All my excitement wiped away instantly. Then the came the realization hit, he was absolutely right. So I lowered head and walked away in shame

Once, in high school, I was working at Hobby Lobby, and this girl who liked me texted me clues to a secret message hidden behind some secret shoes. Lo and behold there was a love letter with the lyrics to "Nowadays a Woman's Gotta Hit a Man" and a gender-swapped "His Eyes Are a Blue Million Miles." Needless to say I threw them away 'cuz "Clear Spot" is a pleb album & she should've tried harder 1/10

@gabrielegagliardi39563 жыл бұрын
Steve albini is into super straight forward (but good) music, ramones, acdc, killing joke etc. Atomizer is a masterpiece but I hardly doubt he can appreciate something as complex as trout mask Replica. What do you think about it?

@@gabrielegagliardi3956Not Available is my favourite Residents album, for sure. And Trout Mask Replica, my favourite Beefheart one. My favourite of all-time would have to be Pink Floyd’s Piper at the Gates of Dawn, though. But they’re all amazing.
@gabrielegagliardi3956 Жыл бұрын
@@psychedelicpiper999 Ahah, that's pretty funny because piper is my favorite Floyd's album. I've always found the Barrett era much more creative and interesting than the dark side of the moon one. One is pure genius, the other sounds much more like an intellectual attempt of selling records and play safe for the big public. Dark side contains some really good melodies but overall it sounds dated compared to both the Canterbury and german kraut rock scene of the time. I mean, I would prefer listening to soft machine, faust, king crimson or Can over Dark side of the moon every day of the week.

Being a fan of the Captain, I was prepared, that is, almost hoping to be very pissed at this. I was gonna say, No, you don't try to understand the Captain just with your brain, you have to use your heart and your gut, etc, blah blah blah. So, to feed my preconception, because I love to prove myself right so instantly, I gave it a listen. Well, I know you're waiting for me to say I was wrong, so... Yes! Yes I was, I was wrong. This bit is actually very very funny, and caught the Captain mystique pretty well, I'd say.

Well, I had a butchers, and of course, you're nothing of the sort. At best you are an intermidiate player more interested in the camera capturing your perceived greatness than tone, rhythm or the audio enjoyment of any poor fuck who can stomach to sit through more than a single upload. If I wanted to be faced with a deluded, ego driven, little shit with an unending stream of, 'look at me! look at me!' I'd have sired a child. I didn't do that, because, absolutely, 100%, fuck a load of that. At worst... Shit for cunts.

What are the purpose of your uploads and what is for any potential viewers to enjoy, besides watch a man play masturbateory guitar in a practice/karaoke fashion with what seems, no consideration for any imagined audience? Not saying you're terrible, but your uploads aren't watchable and make no sense as listenable music or guitar lesson.
