George Michael is probably my OG singing influence, unless I count Michael Jackson (which, maybe I do, maybe I don’t). My first memories of George Michael were when he was taking over radio as a solo artist, so definitively, that it was even causing a bit of a stir down at Royal Charles Elementary School. I was a tall, excruciatingly shy 5th grader with a gargantuan crush on Lindsay Armstrong, in a split classroom, where all the grade-sixers - who were cool enough - were listening to this new rebellious, leather jacketed, aviator glasses-wearing artist with a spectacular hairdo, singing about super edgy stuff that I was pretty sure my parents didn’t want me hearing. But he had THE warmest, softest voice I’d ever heard, which somehow also dripped heavy with attitude. Of course, I had zero awareness that he was already a huge pop star from his time in Wham!, and I was a bit too young to really dive into his debut album, Faith, when it released, but by the time Listen Without Prejudice, Vol.1 came out, I was all in. Michael is particularly impressive to me, since he was one of the rare pop icons who was also what I’d consider a true artist, having written most of the material he recorded.
Some of you may not be terribly surprised to know that the George Michael/Elton John duet version of “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” was the first I ever heard of the song. I somehow missed John’s original version, much like how I missed “Bohemian Rhapsody” the first time around. And don’t get me started on hearing “Ice Ice Baby” loooong before “Under Pressure.” I might have to bust out a little alright-stop-collaborate-and-listen on yo’…
Oh, HANG ON… was I sheltered as a child?! MOM?! DAD?!
Anyways.
All that, to say I loved this song from the first time it entered my cerebellum. My brother and I would sing it around the house, taking turns being George and Elton. Yeah, we did. Just a huge, huge vocal song. And George put it on the map for me.

So I heard ,"how many kings" for the first time this Christmas! I'm from Atlanta Georgia and the good old fish 104.7 was playing your song. I have Kevin Max's version of send me an Angel by the band real life. I thought oh this must be Kevin Max's new Christmas song!! I thought oh it must be Kevin Maxx from DC Talk !then my husband said no that's FREDDIE Mercury!! I said no that can't be Freddie Mercury because that's the band "down here!!". And I have some of "down here's "albums but it dawned on me that Marks voice sounded completely identical to Freddie Mercury. I'm a singer as well, and this year my favorite song of all has been," how many kings.?" I love it when he does the O's. I've been singing those O's in my head. And then I sing all for me all for you. This song to me, was hands down the best Christmas song I'd ever heard. So thank you Mark for sharing your talent with us. Your talent absolutely amazes me! And I understand that THAT really is just your voice and that's why it's so easy to sound like Freddie Mercury. You're not even trying that's just who you are and the awesome gift God gave you!!!. After hearing "how many kings", I decided I needed to follow this guy!! ❤️🙏

Hello Marc, I am a 77yo huge rock/pop fan since back in the day. Have been blessed enough to watch George Michael perform four times when he came to Perth Australia. All this aside you have the most wonderful voice, no matter who people say you sound like, you are unique. My so. Also a muso hated to do cover songs for years, yes he said it was a dirty word, but now though he writes originals he has joined a voter band for DEF LEPPARD and yes, he is Joe Elliot, and yes, it pays the bills! Please come to Perth in my lifetime. Wonderful original Marc. Lynne

@@ThatllShowEm I did not know that. I was what-iffing mostly, however around 2003, Foster was reportedly interested in promoting a Christian artist, the great Yolanda Adams. I only 'discovered' Marc tonight and have been through all his videos on here. I'm blown away by his talent, both vocally and as a pianist. Yes he sounds like Freddie on the Queen songs ( fan from when Queen was new to the charts, I'm that old!) but also such a great vocal on 'O Holy Night' and "Ave Maria" so it's very much his own voice. Brilliant!

Haters can only click a button and stew in their own vindictive juices. Marc will go on being gifted and amazing and still always managing to stay humble and kind. Something haters will never understand or be. Consider that Avett, the visually impaired then six year old who tackled playing the piano and singing Bohemian Rhapsody has 16,000 downvotes from sorry humanity. I personally think downvote buttons should be banned. Either you like it or you skip to something else.
