George Michael was beyond incredible, of course, but I would like to give props to Andrew Ridgeley, his partner from Wham! What a true legend in his own right to hand the reins over to George and give him the space to become the superstar he turned out to be. Andrew knew he couldn’t compete with George. To take up a spot with the backup singers is beyond classy and shows what a great human being he was as well!

Both he and Paul McCartney said George was without a doubt one of the greatest singer/songwriters ever. Now that's a compliment because look who it's coming from. PM also said George showed him how to sing his own song, speaking about the Long and Winding Road. A sublime talent in every way.

Sir Elton John told once: “I was at Live Aid and when we did Live Aid I had this big area built backstage which everybody could come and have a drink at, all the artists on the show. I went on before Queen and I wore this ridiculous kind of hat. Freddie came back and they’d completely trounced it! “I said, ‘Well, nobody needn’t go on now Freddie, you’ve just completely and utterly swept the board and you were absolutely brilliant’. He said, ‘Yes darling, we were… and what were you wearing? You looked like the f*****g Queen Mother!’ And I did.”

It's like Elton wrote this specifically for George to sing. Classic. Live Aid 1985 had some dynamic performances. I'm glad I'm part of that generation. *Edit* Back for another of many listens to this. This song, and George's interpretation of it will always ride high. Arguably Elton's and Bernie's finest composition.

I believe that somewhere in the world, there are people who feel the same emotions that I feel when I listen to masterpieces like this song.

A few take aways after watching this for the first time in 30 years since watching it on TV as a 12 yr old. 1. How GM forgets initially that Andrew is there with him and you can see he’s a little bit embarrassed that he forgot! 2. How EJ moves into the mike to sing the first line then backs away! 3. Waiting for EJ to join in at some point but he probably thinks ‘fuck it! This is too good’ and just rocks out like a kid with a massive grin on his face. 4.Just how f**king unbelievable GM’s voice and command of his space is and this makes me slightly sad that my kids simply don’t have that level of talent or legends around of this sheer calibre. Where are all the next generation’s proper classic acts that will fill stadiums in 30 years time?

@@karenjewell6543 They're all out there. You just have to stop listening to the radio and find out where to look, and listen to young people who know their music!

At 2:08 Elton was going to come in on "But you misread...", and also at 3:26 "And I can't find...", but quickly backed off letting GM roll on... \m/

@@jameswilkes451 i do indeed buy new music all the time and rarely listen to current radio but unfortunately there has been little of note with regards to long standing global legacy for a very very long time.

I was a teenager in the 60's so witnessed the genius of the Beatles, but when l saw George on top of the pops in 1982 l knew instantly l was going to witnesses that genius again, and of course I was right, a truly talented man with the voice of an angel, when George sings (doesn't matter if it's his song or a cover) you feel the emotion it goes right through to your soul.its heartbreaking that he's no longer with us.l doubt l will ever witness that genius again in my lifetime. I can't get my head round the 2k people who disliked this l feel sorry for them.
