Rolex prices are the talk of the town. The Rolex Daytona, Rolex GMT and Rolex Daytona have all decreased. What does it mean to the Rolex lover? Buy or sell?

My Explorer 124270 36mm never went up crazy prices and it’s now dropped a bit but has leveled off. I think it depends on the model.

Depends on why you buy a watch in the first place. Did you buy it to make money, or did you buy it because you love the watch and want to keep it? If you buy to keep, like myself, doesn't matter one bit what the grey market is doing. In fact, maybe if the grey market goes back to normal, you will be SAFER walking around with it on. Also, with grey market prices dropping, maybe scalpers will stop buying watches at the AD just to sell and, in turn, watches will be more available at MSRP from ADs. If you bought from an AD to make money, well, you still can make money, just not as much.

Prices have not bottomed out, my prediction is that from February we will see some sports models below the list price, the gmt is already near 15,000 euros

The AD certainly won’t be discounting this decade. I believe he was referring to the gray market which used to sell under retail. Oh the good old days.

It is very difficult to know what is going to happen but in my experience when the recession hits next year there will be a lot of supply in the second-hand market, not only watches, but also real estate, high-end cars, as it happened in 2009. The problem is that the lack of liquidity and the rise in interest rates and fear will make people pass up bargains. But as Marc comments, in the long term Rolex is a safe investment if you buy it at list price.

@@thepiemaster0933 What I can assure you that chrono24 prices do not reflect reality, you just have to talk to people in forums and go to local second-hand shops. For example i saw a SD43 and 44 sold at list price

Why Rolex? I like the cinematic heritage (I grew up with it); I love the design language, The special formulation of steel they use has a special luster. Most of them are designed to be tool watches and scratches add history and character. For the longest time, pre-bubble, used Rolex watches mostly retained their value and kept pace with inflation, they could be reliably serviced. Mostly they were mid-sized, pretty indestructible, very reliable and accurate.

I too have a Rolex GMT II BLRO. I picked it up from my AD shortly after it was released in 2018. I’ve never been tempted to sell. It’s too good. 🍻

Rolex Rolex Rolex... At least you admit that your channel is about wrist candy currency, money retention and long term investment rather than the curiosity of horology. There are so many wonderful brands besides the obvious such as Breguet, Blancpain, Vacheron, Glashuette, Grand Seiko, Breitling etc , but no, at the end of the day we are locked in were the money is, aren't we? At least you are honest in your approach; and I do respect that.

Why to sell the watches due to price change if they are not an investment assets in first place, but a tools and accessories to wear? The investment approach spoiled the whole dynamics in watch collecting hobby for people with generic interest in watches, not flippers for whom there is not much diference where to raise money, whether it will be crypto, sneakers, watches or NFTs 😂

Absolutely. Buy for love. Not for money. Rolex will always have to be celebrated. It’s done more for the luxury watch market then any other brand bar none. If you want a quick buck stick to the stock market and try your luck. If you want to love your watch and buy invest for love but smartly then stick to watches. The flippers we don’t want you.

Expect prices to go up from December. Rolex factories are shut down in December and January so no watches are being shipped to any AD. From February the watch craziness will pick up more. BUY NOW!!
