Isabelle Huppert shakes up common preconceptions and shares her insights on acting:
Embracing Stage Director Robert Wilson's definition, she says it all: acting is improvising moment to moment like Sanford Meisner would have said it. That is how acting can become seamless. It is a behavioural improvisation moment to moment ,in the frame of the story with set dialogues remaining the same - Just like in jazz, the notes might change chord to chord, but the chord progression and the theme remain.
Another idea that will ring a bell to those who studied in the Meisner Technique, the character is a bunch of lines on a piece of paper. Like a magician, the character is a layered seamless AND truthful illusion created for the audience. The actor doesn't believe in the illusion but in the moment to moment experience of exerting skills and instinctually sharing momentum.
