Klara and the Sun seems uncomfortably close to eugenics, but I like dystopian science fiction. The last book of his I read was his Anglo-Saxon parental guilt trip. I liked Remains of the Day. I recently finished Poppa John by Larry Woiwode, published 1981, the one that got away. I have now read all of his novels and Poppa John was a fine book about an actor and how the two selves blend and what happens when a long continuing role comes to an end. Larry Woiwode's Poppa John is beautifully written. I am reading Clemmie now, a biography of Clementine Churchill. It is oddly comforting to read biography. I will place the Anita Brookner on the wish list.

Take care Leo ...fully understand ...I have a motto ...never let your pleasures become your pressures ....it's really helped me when I feel as if I'm struggling and need to drop plans ... Your question about caring about a robot is interesting ...sometimes we feel can more for imagined characters or beings than the people we know....that's the alchemy of fiction ...and religion and celebrity too ! ....I loved Brief Lives so much ...still thinking about it months afterwards , the self deception and what wasn't said but was understood ....

First, sorry to hear you haven't been well. Definitely no need for reading pressure. I'm glad you liked Let's Get Back to the Party. I just checked this out from the library this week and your review makes me want to read it sooner rather than later.

Yey a new vid! Sorry to hear you've been unwell. I was a little intrigued by Let's Get Back to the Party and had a look and it's not published in the UK until Feb 2022 haha. And I've never read an Ishiguro novel which i need to rectify. Hope you get better soon!

_Apartment_ sounds intriguing. I really liked your description of it. I think I’m the only person on BookTube who isn’t a big fan of Ishiguro. I am sorry to hear of your health issues. I hope things are getting better.

The cover of Apartment is just amazing. Such a bummer that the book didn’t live up to the expectations it sets. Thank you for your kind words on my review of Brief Lives. It’s a joy to read and discuss these with you each time, even when they aren’t so good. Luckily, this was exceptional!

You summarise Ishiguro's new book so well! I really fell in love with Klara too although I did question her perspective sometimes since you get flashes of how she's scrambling the elements of the people she views (especially when they're in groups.) I feel like this added to the sometimes sinister feel of the book which was all the dark for the innocent sweetness or fairytale-like sense of Klara herself. Sounds like you had such a good experience reading Brookner with Sarah. I've read some of her books in the past but not Brief Lives but sounds like I'd love it. 📚

@@Leoslittlebooklife Yes, that’s a good point. I guess that’s what makes the ending partly heartbreaking - that we almost forget she’s a machine so ascribe to her feelings we’d have in her position being abandoned.

Thanks for another great buddy read, my friend. I don’t think Let’s Get Back to the Party is the best book we have read, but it is the one that’s sparked the best conversations. I’m so glad we got to share that experience! The Prettiest Star up next?
