Ah Leo! First Shawn and now you, I found Swimming in the Dark a snooze, laborious, predictable and melodramatic. I don't know, maybe I was feeling cynic at that time haha. However, that Brookner sounds like a good first for me! You and Sarah have always made me want to give Brookner a look, a study in loneliness is one of my favorite themes in books so I think I'd enjoy it. Happy February reading!

I had never heard of So Big before you but I love a story about a strong woman so I'm definity going to pick it up. The same goes for In the City of Shy Hunters. Sounds amazing. What a great start to your reading year!

Hi Leo, Thank you for your video. In the City of Shy Hunters sounds very! I did not like A Little Life a very much for a number of reasons, but the friend group part of it is actually one of the aspects that I liked about the book. And I'm always interested in learning more about the 80s AIDS epidemics and its handling (or rather lack thereof) by governments.

What a great reading month! I read So Big not too long ago and really liked it. Ooh interesting, a male Anita Brookner lead, sounds great!

Oh Leo- thanks for the kind words about my review of Patsy! I love that you always seem to introduce me to American women writers I never knew about (Alice Adams, Edna Ferber...)!
@BookishTexan3 жыл бұрын
I have never read _So Big_ or anything by Ferber. I think I was put off by F. Scott Fitzgerald who really hated _So, Big_. Every time I start a new Balzac novel I have a similar reaction, though I do sometimes find their beginnings to be awkward and strained.

@@Leoslittlebooklife Oh well writers can be catty, maybe he was inebriated. Fitzgerald is wonderful. I read So Big long ago and Fitzgerald too.

What a great reading month! I've never heard of Edna Ferber before. Sounds like she's worth checking out, so too bad her books are not read any more, I find that weird especially since she was so popular and even won the Pulitzer.

Wow, that's a lot of five-star reads! Way to start the year off on a high note. I, on the other hand, had an abundance of 2 and 2.5 star reads in January, so I'm hoping it will only get better 😂
