Winsor & Newton, mostly. A few other brands in there. My advice is to buy professional-grade stuff, not student-grade.

My favorite part of watercolors is how it brings out your artistic instinct. I do digital art but I'm awful at it, I think it's because I have a million chances to get it right, unlike watercolor; the way watercolor is unforgiving really forces out my best qualities and instincts. I've been nervous to do plein airs, but you're convincing me how important it is for shape language/expressive painting and to not afraid, thank you for this video! (:

Marco, you are so wonderfully articulate and concise in your instruction. Such a great teacher! Really appreciate your entire artistic process, including the video production special effects! Very inspirational!

Most impressive part is how reckless the first wash of color looks, until you carve out the details and it begins to look thouroughly planned out
@marcobucci6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That's another reason I really like watercolour: you have to kind of anticipate the next steps. Set things up at the start for later payoff. Keeps you on your toes.
@calebrobertson50416 жыл бұрын
Marco Bucci bit late coming back to this, but would you reccomend watercolor to beginig painters? I have a watercolor set already, but im tempted to get a travel gouache set instead so I dont have to work around watercolors properties while im rrying to make quick paintings.
@marcobucci6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think if you're just starting out, watercolor probably isn't the best medium to be using. Its high demands might distract you from the practice of solid fundamentals, which is where you want to focus if you're a beginning painter. Gouache is generally a better medium for control, and a good choice for beginners. That being said, I don't think you should outright avoid using watercolor either. Give it a shot every now and then, and get used to how different mediums react. Also, the nice thing about gouache is that you can try transparent approaches with it (like watercolor) or more opaque approaches (like acrylic & oil). Good luck!
@calebrobertson50416 жыл бұрын
Marco Bucci thanks for the quick response. Ive probably got enough room to just get a small set of gouache and bring it with my watercolor set to give myself the option to do a bit of both. In that case, do you know if I would need to match the brands, as in windsor and newton watercolor to windsor and newton gouache? I only started painting earlier this year, but I was suprised to find I enjoy it more than drawing, so itll be nice to have a good portable setup to get some practice in on the go.

I love watching you paint! I tend to keep a very clean palette, so looking at yours, where colors are blended with others, makes me wonder how you get some striking colors in your painting when I'd think that it was too muddied up on the palette to lay on the paper as cleanly as it appears there. Pretty impressive.
