Great video! Here's a fun proverb from Sweden: "There is no cow on the ice." Meaning: it's ok, there's no reason to panic.

@@inevitaly it's a fun saying, but with a serious background: it's about cows going out on the ice of the lake, which would be very dangerous. A cow falling through the ice would be impossible to save. Cows being essential for a farmer's family to survive the winter, in the old days.

"Prendi l'arte e mettila da parte" (uno nuovo per Alan ;)) é il mio preferito e quello che mio nonno mi ripete più spesso, insieme a "mogli e buoi dei paesi tuoi" :). A few years ago, I learned that in German, "I have small apples to peel with you," is their version of "I have a bone to pick with you." I never got the meaning of the phrase until that comparison. We use it as "I'm irked at you and I want to tell you why (to give you a piece of my mind!)." And doing a menial task together provides an opportunity to hash it out.

Sarah Behle I was talking to my Italian cousin about my plans to ask someone for a favour and she replied “in bocca al lupo “. I was saddened and deflated .... I thought she was saying that the person would “chew me up and spit me out” ... 😳 she saw my sad look and realized I hadn’t understood the proverb correctly, so she explained it meant “good luck”. So I replied “Oh, so I’m the lupo!” 🤣😂We had so a good laugh! 😂🤣

Ciao. P.S.: Alan è veramente forte!

Another one from the same source in the same language, it’s about human behaviour, I used to tell that to my subordinates at the office, “Leh la consolasiön del dromedary quant l’ha vist al camel” literally “ it’s the consolation of the dromedary 🐪(1 hump) when he saw the camel 🐫 (2 humps) To say don’t get comfortable in your problems by looking at other’s worse than yours, or also don’t justify you failures by pointing at others worse than yours

They discovered noodles from China, removed the dog and created pasta. They stole the idea of arches from the Etruscans and built coliseums and aqueducts. They took the Gladius from the celt-iberians and conquered the world with it. They learned about sex from Greeks and realized you could also have it with women, etc."

Secondo me questo video è stato più un pretesto per mettere alla prova le conoscenze linguistiche del tuo compagno, che parlare dei proverbi. 😉

Appreciated!! I’m preparing for a nice adventure to Italy and this is fun, uplifting and helpful. 🪃 I love Proverbs. Did you know that the proverb “don’t look a gift horse in the mouth“ possibly originated from looking at the horse’s teeth to estimate their age? Don’t check the value. Just take the gift! :-) 🐴 What a fun episode this is. I plan to say the “appetite and eating” one often even here at home. 🍴 My other favorite is “he who seeks a friend seeks a treasure” I think I’ll be enjoy using that with people who help me and who I interact with that would be really fun. Your channel is a trove. See I’m learning already. 😃❤️🇮🇹
