I fell in love with the Mechanicus OST when I first heard it and it has continued to not disappoint me. I listen to it whenever I just want to vibe and feel powerful or like I can take over the world lol. It's that good.

I always liked this track. I'm a chemical worker, who works in heavy industry. This involves at times wearing a level A hazmat suit. On a light day I'd wear a level B. But in the process tower, there's a rhythm. The machinery is timed of course. By sound alone I am able to tell not only how quickly the machinery is working, but how healthy it is. The timing was so reliable I could time myself to them. Moving the lance, moving the Nederman Arm, moving the grounding wire, activating the pumps and turning valves. All in rhythm. To the point where if I walked into the Kettle Room if the tempo was off, I knew something was wrong. It's an artform. I'd put my flashlight up to a sightglass on a loadline and observe the product. It might be thicker than normal due to temperature, or it's flowing slowly due to a clogged filter. By sight and sound I'd know what to adjust in the process . In this industry its not entirely math or reason the boots on the ground use. It is thoughts and feeling that we use. "Oh, this pump is struggling, why? The product is too cool, it is too thick. We're risking a dead head in the pump. We'll dial up the heaters and open the valves a bit to get it flowing" When you are dealing with a single machine the size of an entire multi-story building and the only adjustments you can make is by eye and ear alone you suddenly understand why the belief in the omnissiah isn't exactly crazy. All those people in science in math classes kind of fall apart once they are in a facility.

Succinctly put. I have very same feeling when I'm looking on the monitoring dashboards. Trend goes up, trend goes down, some turbulence predicts that in a few seconds I will see error count rising. I look at the percentages, percentiles, quantitles, follow streams of logs, not even reading them, just looking for oddities in data flow. I imagine experience is similar, minus hazmat suite😅

I've had something similar with 3d printing. My printer is in a different room, but I can usually figure out if a print has gone wrong by ear. Also the Prusa mk3 used to have an epic rhythm when performing bed leveling before each print, but it was patched out in a firmware update. I really wish I'd have recorded it, because I always wanted to make an ode to 3d printing using the bed leveling sound as a beat.

I love the tone of this comment. This feels right at home somewhere in between the age of the Mechanicum (Oriented towards cold hard logic) and the birth of the Cult Mechanicus (Oriented towards blind faith in the machine). It reads like it is written by a Tech-priest that retains enough the sanity to know the logic behind the machines, but with the inner voice in tune with the machines around them. Profound, eloquent, but not devoid of reason.

One of my favourite stories involving the Mechanicus, was a conversation between a Magos and Captain about what to do with the food supply issues of the Guardsman regiment that the Captain is leading. The Magos suggests that he be given the corpses of the dead guardsmen to recycle into nutrient paste, the captain calls him inhuman and the Magos replies something to the effect of "Unfortunately, I am yet to have my biology entirely replaced, but I appreciate you saying so."

What i like about that intercation was if he had said that to almost any other Guarsman regiment's commander, he would have atleast reluctantly agreed, but since it was Elysian he said it to, which are pretty much in 40k with modern western standards of living and morals, with respect even for the dead (Elysian funeral custom is to burn the dead) he found it disgusting and immoral and thought even suggesting that is inhumane and against his culture. I love Elysians since they bring "modern" perspective in to the setting of 40k, its great contrast to the more cruel and immoral world of Warhammer.

My favorite aspect of the game that often goes overlooked is that the game opens with the various Mechanicus leaders talking in their machine speak, and then you get your first dialogue from a Necron and he speaks in perfect English. It so subtly lays out that the Mechanicus are humans trying to give up their humanity and become machines, and juxtaposes them against the Necrons who are biological beings who gave up their (for lack of a proper word) humanity and want it back.

The moment I realised I had just felt in love with the game was when in the exploration phase of a tomb, the ad-mech entered into a chamber where the description was something like "a vox caster raises from a pillar covered in glyphs and emits a voice that offers you philosophical conversation". Lost Civilisation sounding.

​​@@SomeCallMeAku Lol no, the reason we get to hear the necrons speak English is because the developers wanted to at least keep English speaking in the game for both newcomers and 40k fans, while the admech have their own binary to make them unique. You also failed to know that the necrons also completely have their own set of language as well, but we simply don't see it in the game. Btw almost more than 50% of the necrons prefer to remain machine rather than revert back to organic and trayzen is one of them.

The chanting and pipe organ punctuated by hammering of metal and buzz of machinery... THIS is how Adeptus Mechanicus should sound like.

Totally! The more rythmic percussive bits, with weird sounds, and menacing undertones, that's all Necrons. It's purposeful, but threatening, hostile, profane and has an eldritch technological superiority. Contrasting heavily with the holy and mathematical tones of AdMech :) It feels like the whole OST is how the Mechanicus communicates and describes the events of the game and of their lore to each other. A sort of musical render of their binary dialogues and pseudo-feelings. This guy just understood AdMech to the fullest. It's so artful that i can hardly wrap my head around it.

I feel Necrons are the best antagonist to be paired with admech, they are kinda the same and the total opposite at the same time. atmosphere wouldnt work as well with CSM, tyranids, orks, etc

It's honestly fascinating when a game soundtrack transcends the game itself. Some tracks just become something beyond comprehension. And I love that games allow these masterpieces to be born, just like Never looking back from Cyberpunk or Children of Omnysiah from Mechanicus, Elden beast from Elden Ring etc.

The omnissiah is the massive god engine that runs the universe. Every machine, from the smallest to the most complex, are part of that unfathomably vast machine god. And so we should strive to become cogs in that machine, to become greater than we are, to embody the purpose we were meant for from birth. That's why Children of the Omnissiah has such vast undertones to it, it harkens back to that machine so vast that none of us can truly perceive it.

If they give something they would take 10-100-1000-1000000 fold. P. @onerxowns2202 On the other hand, think about how gods in 40k work. A god can just emerge by enough people believing in it or a concept it represents. Just like the personification of the Greater Good, brought forth by Humans in the Tau Empire believing in it and thus manifesting it in the warp (it needs humans because the Tau themselves are near-blanks). It is specifically never mentioned if the Omnissiah and machine spirits are just a technological thing, warp fuckery or the lingering presence of a shattered star god. And i think that adds intrigue and mystery in the most brilliant way. In the end you can choose whats true for your dudes. Thats all warhammer is about. And its C'tan ;)

​​@@onerxowns2202 The Omnissiah is not the machine god, they are 2 separate entities that comprise 2/3 of the Mechanicus' religion. Those being the Omnissiah, the Machine God, and the Motive Force. Omnissiah is the Emperor, Machine God is the sum of all machine spirits, and the Motive Force is life and the soul. Also, it is not confirmed that the source of the Mechanicus' religion is a shard of the Void Dragon, it's just a theory. A very plausible theory, but still not confirmed.

Warriors of Mars you can close your eyes and picture Skitarii striding across a war torn battlefield, flowing through the debris and ruins as great gouts of vibrant beams of green energy flash overhead and through their ranks. They emerge from cover and unleashed practiced volleys from their fusillade as that pulsing sound echoes the binarhic orders barked out by Marshals wielding control staves and Tech Priests bring about arcane devices and unleash forgotten powers on those that defy the will of the Omnissiah.

One thing I love about these tracks, and something I don’t see touched on very often, is how… they are. Despite the utter dominance of religion, of technology, the primary choir is consistently human. Something that, of course, is vital to something even as stagnant and rotting as the Imperium, despite all of its efforts. The Imperium still has bit and pieces of true humanity hidden away inside of it, rare moments of understanding and empathy and curiosity that’s innate to the true human soul. And the Mechanicus tracks really do catch that perfectly. It’s subtle, layered deep beneath faith and tech, but know one can deny it. There’s humanity here, even after all this time and all these trials. And that’s beautiful.

I'm not trained to dissect this music like you are, but I know what I like, and the haunting, eerie aspect of the Necron tombs and the fanatical percussive aspects of the Tech Priests really work well together. I hope you can get into the game on the second attempt. I love the "voice acting" in the game. The inhuman noises each character utters were ultimately due to budget constraints if I recall but it really gives you the feeling that they are talking in their own language. When the Necron characters actually speak their lines it seems even weirder, they are talking down to the humans using their own language, which bizarrely makes them feel more "human" than the Mechanicus at times. I'm sure that's a deliberate choice and I think it's brilliant.

What Guillaume David did with this OST not only serves a game about Adeptus Mechanicus exploratory group delving into Necron tombs but perfectly encapsulates the cyclopean magnitude of the 40k universe. The vast complexes of lost civilisations ridden with horrors beyond imagination, entire systems plunged into never ending war, eldritch stars lurking in the void, influencing entire generations to write legends and create religions, space-time anomalies after a heavenly war that spanned millions of years and so, so much more. This OST is solemn, powerful, subtle and I have yet to find anything that would stir the same feelings and creativity in me.

Children of the Omnissiah fully embodies "From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me.". The holiness of the religion of the Omnissiah and the revving of the machines of the machine god. Man it amazes me every time how much you nail this. Everything from basically uttering my very thoughts to the way you manage to perfectly capture the essence of the music. Like the Warriors of Mars for instance: Skitarii are literally bred to be just what you describe: incredibly aggressive and strong - but thanks to their augmetics they are also incredibly cool and calculating. But honestly the most insane thing is how you literally uttered my thoughts exactly. I literally returned to this soundtrack today on my commute home because it just won't let me go. And then you said just that in the beginning of this video. I thought about how this soundtrack just _injects_ itself into your bloodstream. And then you said just that. Or how it just tickles a part of your brain - I shit you not, I legitimately thought those exact words and was gonna write a comment about it and then you said just that. When I started the video, I had my doubts, because most of the WH40K soundtracks I had heard till now sounded like the generic edgy grim dark militaristic tones. But this is truly special. The second I heard the arps on the organ I knew this was something beyond.

The Children of Omnissiah song has literally changed my life. It may sound strange to say such a statement but I believe it is true. From the very first time I listened to it, it moved me deeply. I find it to convey such an eerie feeling, such a strong power imbued in its melody and an incredible strength of faith in the chorus throughout the entire tune. It feels like waking up every single emotions within me at the same time, it feels so vivid at the same time, this is insane. There isn't a single day going when I don't listen to it at least once. Yeah, I feel exactly the same!! How Warhammer OSTs always go sooo crazy with sounds, the choir, organ and deliver an atmosphere of almost religious exaltation is so fascinating... Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader OST (a new (and first ever!) cRPG game in this universe) is also worth to listen if you wish to experience a similar vibe again and it perfectly continues the overall theme :>

I can't put my feelings towards this soundtrack in words. All I can say is that I like music a lot, and these tracks are very special to me. I am indeed obsessed with it. So deep and so rich - the composition, the sound design. I have never seen any composer of classical or rock to give such attention to the sound design, and I have never seen any electronic music composer to be that skilful in the composition. My favourite one is "Treacherous". I love when the synth arpeggio comes in - after 6 minutes of sheer darkness, the synth comes bringing light. Then, the drums sound deeper and the space is widened. The arpeggiated pattern of the synth goes on an on. The sound modulates slightly, and the synth is more trippy each time it repeats. Then, the distant chant. I have never felt that feeling of "suspended trance" like that (and I like Pink Floyd, techno and psy-trance a lot). Then there is "Lost Civilization" - the mechanical beat - those energy drums are deep and alien. So dark, and then, that delicious synth melody emerges and makes one's heart jolly. I played the whole game on weed.

Interesting thing you mention how its slow and measured. The mechanicus' front line soldiers are called skitarii. Lorewise, in combat skitarii are mentally linked to their commanding magos dominus. Allowing the magos to see from each soldier's perspective and coordinate their movements. Skitarii march in perfect lockstep, they are ruthless, efficient, they never tire, shooting with flawless precision and utter devotion. They often use radiation weapons that make the battlefield itself more and more hostile as the fight goes on. Not that the skitarii mind. Nor do their techpriest masters care of their charges are slaughtered so long as they fulfill their purpose.

What makes the "Lost Civilization" track even more great is how it keeps kicking in more the more chaotic the track and the notes get, as if a culture of a technology encounters another that it cant quite understand and things get both chaotic and wondorous, and in the lore the tech priests also communicate with binaric arias, so music is also their language, you can think of the track as a first encounter with something wonderful and infathomable, yet incredibly dangerous.

Something else amazing about this soundtrack, especially noticeable in Lost Civilisation and Overlord is how it shows the two opposing factions, the mechanicus and necrons are two sides of the same coin, the buzzing and nore obvious synths (symbolising the necrons) is woven so deeply withing the musical beats which represent the mechanicus (organs, more blunt percussive sounds and the chanting)

I'm 100% there with you on this. I heard the OST first before I played the game and was sold on the game by the music alone. Playing it just made everything feel so much more visceral but still the music stands alone. There's as much a physical experience as there is an emotional and psychological experience to this sound track. The better your headphones or speaker system the more you understand it. It is a sensory tank that envelopes you and I will never remove it from my library.

@MarcoMeatball So a few things about the tracks and the lore behind them. Most of the tracks in the game are a duet of themes between the Mechanicus and the themes of the foe they are facing at the time, from the perspective of the Mechanicus. Most tracks are a mix of the Mechanicus and the Necron. The Necron are an ancient race that literally fought and killed gods, almost claiming the entire galaxy as their birthright before having to be put to sleep to try and outlive their foes. They are spiteful, most have completely lost their personality and free will, and above all are ANCIENT. There are three tracks that are exceptions to this. Children of the Omnissiah and Caestus Metalican are both purely Mechanicus, and what I would consider to be the “pure” form of the Mechanicus sound scape. The other exception is Treacherous, which is the Mechanicus against their own kind who have strayed to far from the cult’s rules and limitations on what is and is not allowed. Called Hereteks, these are free thinkers who think innovation, adaptation, and reverse engineering is the answer for humanity’s survival and improvement, which are all concepts that the Mechanicus FEARFULLY detests. You can really feel this sort of clash of thinking with how much more synth heavy and futuristic the sounds are in it compared to the far more engines and pipe clanging sounds of the pure Mechanicus tracks.

I think the low notes are so addicting because there some kind of infrasound that our conscious can’t hear. The low crunch is something our brains block out all day every day and this music (and lots of electronica) stimulates the part of the brain that hears those ultra low distortions. For those who especially enjoy the electronic portions of these tracks: I encourage you to check out the musician Weldroid. They work with lots of 'crunchy' analogue synths like those in the Mechanicus OST. Try out the track 'One More Death Shouldn't Matter', it's one of my favourites. Enjoy!

I love how so much of the Mechanicus music summons a vision of this deep abyss where the chanting come from, it's so distorted and echoey that you feel like you stand on a precipice of a deep, dark space where a vast mass is chanting. EDIT: A lot of the Mechanicus' army IS 'unthinking', because they use brainwashed and lobotomized cyborgs as soldiers and servants (the Imperium doesn't really have androids and robots, because AI is outlawed.). So you're not entirely off with how the music makes it sound like it's this unthinking, plodding mass moving forward with vengeance.

An upload of someone enthuastically enjoying one of my all time favorite soundtracks? Don't mind if I do. One of the things I like to think about the track 'Warriors of Mars' is that the beat doesn't only invoke a army walking but also the beat of sound one might see in a factory and its robots doing thier tasks, As to the tech adepts of the Omnissaiahs faithful both are equal in purpose and value. This is why i use this soundtrack for any of my u dead themed missions in DnD. Everything about it perfectly fits a concept of religion and undeath / technology. The song Lost Civilization is an utter perfect du geon crawl exploration song. Any catacomb, underground temple, it is just a perfect sound for empty halls, echoing rooms and a hint of lost ritual.

I’ve never played this game, but I bought the OST on vinyl, and I didn’t even have a record player. It’s so unique, and I’m still in awe that the composer didn’t have anything to his name before he made this. (I have a record player now, and there’s something really satisfying about playing this soundtrack on a physical machine.)
