For context about the character on the video: Selena is the daughter of a rich family of artists, inherently kind-hearted and gentle, but sheltered, naive and often lost in her own thoughts. She is however a prodigy at classical music, opera and even writes her own plays, in fact the reason why the play The Tempest can even be performed once again after a hundred years was due to her efforts. But as talented as she is, she couldn't accurately depict the darkness, pain and loss that is happening on Earth while humanity's continued attempts to reclaim it from The Punishing Virus and the Corrupted. After she has that harsh realization, she decided to join the forces dedicated to reclaim Earth to learn everything first hand, in doing so she became a Construct, an Android specifically modified against the Punishing Virus with the consciousness of a human grafted into it. Unfortunately this decision was the start of her road of suffering, as she gets torn apart, left as just a torso for God knows how long, and ravaged by the Virus. So the electronic part of the song reflects Selena after her ordeals where she's not as pure as she used to be but still yearns for the same person.

The saddest character in PGR so far. Selena and you, the commandant, used to write each other as penpals back in the past, before the game story starts, and implied to have fallen with each other yet never seen face to face once due to their busy life/duties. She had to endure for so long living last of her life as half of android body ever since she failed her last mission. The enemy, Gabriel, found her and put her into what you call Red Tide, is basically liquified (Punishing) virus lake, for an experiment just to see what happen. The process broke her, turned her mad and losing her sense of self as the virus tortures her over and over morphing her into a monster. She experienced living as half dead, torned apart only as her torso and head remained, unable to move nor speak, she refuses to die until she meets you. Still believing in fairytales that a prince like you would come and save her. But alas, by the time you get to finally meet her, she's already ruined and morphed into a monster in front of you. So the saddest part of all, as your duty as Commandant, you commanded your forces to exterminate the monster without knowing who she really is. Not because the Commandant forgotten about his penpal but because he never met her. But one thing you notice before the monster dies as its dying breath, the monster mimics the way a person plays a violin for a few moments before falling to ground, not knowing why it does that. The 'lovers' finally met for their first and probably their last without recognizing one another in the most unfortunate and gruesome way. And that is why we PGR fans never forgive Gabriel

Actually correction, us Commandant alr knew that Siren IS Selena due to them seeing her being morphed in the middle of the beast. Let's just say Selena (being forced to by the Punishing Virus) control the body of the Siren. During Recitativo da Fantasia, Commandant and Ayla tried to find Selena's signal, and they remembered her as usual.

no she is NOT dead, she is just TRAPPED in punishing boss vessel, then after the commandant (we as players) destroyed the red tide punishing core, Selena is released and yes she is dying but, she is fine and recovered. And in her level 8 affection, you will see the true ending, Selena meet commandant for the first time after that big red tide operation done via mail letter just like when they're having a pen-pal relationship, Selena told commandant to come, giving us a coordinates where she at, and commandat came, in the building theater-hall-like, they meet the gaze, Selena offers her hand, and then two of 'em dancing together. the end note: this comment is represent for Selena: Tempest, not Selena Capriccio story

This song represent Selena's love and passion for Opera. She was someone that loved everything about art, and liked to romantice everything. However, every Opera ends with an tragedy. To give a more context, the world of PGR is post-apocalytic. Such things as opera, singing or anything related about the past is refered as the Golden Age, an era where humankind existed before the Punishing Viru ravaged the entire world. This song represent the two-star crossed "almost" lovers, Selena and the Commandant. Those two used to be penpals, sharing thoughts and feelings without seeing each other faces. They cared about each other and had a good connection. Sadly, because of events out their control, they never managed to see each other.

Selena, the lady portrayed probably has one of the most tragic stories in PGR. When I was reading her visual novel, it was stated (If I remember correctly) that she was performing an opera written by her inside the comfort of Babylonia in front of returning soldier constructs sent back to earth ravaged by the punishing virus . It basically romanticizes that the battlefield is filled with heroism and valor, that they are treasured by Babylonia (a space station where some of the surviving humans settled) as they fight for humanity and retrieving earth. However, a soldier disliked it, Selena asked for his opinion, and said that he disliked it because it is not a real representation of what occurs in battle, hence, romanticize. And that they were but a mere dispensible tool for Babylonia. This struck a chord in Selena, she quit opera, and opted be a construct and join the archeological team. Maybe in shame for her self-perceived arrogance and towards a journey for self-retribution. To at least know what it feels like in the battlefield. They were sent into a skirmish to a space station where the archeological team is needed to retrieve an artifact. Unbeknownst to the team, the station is filled with machines inflicted with punishing virus. The team were killed one by one, they called Babylonia and were assured that they'll be rescued and sent reinforcements. That time never came, until Selena was the only one left, facing the very same soldiers she talked to back when she sung her opera with the promise of finishing their mission. She was hunted by the afflicted machine, which was a former guide for children touring the space station searching for the artifact, she decided to hide it inside her, the machine ripped her limbs and arms searching for the artifact. In her mind, she has a mission important for Babylonia, but in reality, the very realization on why her opera angered the soldier dawned unto her, that is they are dispensible tools. The help never came. P. S. Forgot so many details and probably made many mistakes. But that's the gist of it I suppose. Thanks for the video as always sir Marco.

You probably already know the gist of her story but it's important to know that even though her corrupted monster body was destroyed, she was rebuilt by the punishing virus and was able to live again. While her memory was largely lost after all these years of suffering, in her last bond story, the commandant and Selena reunite after being torn apart by fate for so long, just the two of them joining into a beautiful dance under the moon, keeping the promise they made to each other, the promise that has kept her hanging on until the very end. "Her eyes no longer hold the innocence that she once had, but the romance is still alive." "She's changed, yet remained the same." I HIGHLY recommend watching her story some day, or playing through it yourself if you actually like her enough to pull for her.

Games like Gesnhin Impact, many installments of the Final Fantasy saga, NieR & Drakengard Sagas, now Kuro Games with Punishing Gray Raven, and many other videogames, make us pay attention about "classical" music can really survive and evolve for much longer thanks to the creativity of great composers within these industries. I myself studied classical guitar and musical education for many years, but in my country (Mexico) as in many other countries within LATAM, it is incredibly difficult to live with a decent income within the world of the arts. In short, I love every video and every direct/stream of yours that I can witness whether live or recorded, because it allows me to link me again with that passion and delight that I've always felted with classical music, and that today is connected with videogames, even when my current circumstances of life couldn't allow me to dedicate myself professionally to it. I hope this is not too spoilery, but the girl is Selena. She's a musician, a prodigy one at that. My take is that the first part is about her passion for opera. She is also Commandant's (us) penpal, and they talk about many things but never really see each other. However, it is implied that perhaps they like or love each other. I'm assuming it is what the second part represents, about the love that is blooming, all the good times. Though that will end with all the build-up and finally the climax with the electronic drop. She become a Construct and on one of her mission she was kidnapped by Gabriel (an enemy) and got thrown to Red Tide and basically fused into one with a Hetero-creature. The first time she meets Commandant is on a battlefield facing against each other, a battle where she didn't even have consciousness of. They meet as enemies, despite loving each other. I guess it really ends tragically where she went MIA. The beautiful part is, the boss that we fight (the one where she fused together with) plays violin before getting into its 2nd phase. This is how I view the final part of the song, with electronic sounds and with hard-hitting beats to match the overall environment of that battle. Personally, I think the poem perfectly fit their situation, it's really beautiful to be honest.

Man this game really deserves more love than it gets - as someone who started playing it thanks to reactions to its tracks like yours (which originally stemmed from a certain sentient editing software's summaries), and now having somewhat recently caught up to the Global story, I highly, HIGHLY recommend PGR. Not only is basically all the game's music fantastic (coming from someone who never really liked electronic/trance before), the story only gets better with each chapter (I've never hurt from a game so bad/good, and like Genshin/Honkai the music is that much better within the context of the story), the characters are simple on paper but all feature deep, endearing stories, it gets surprisingly deep on several themes and storylines, and on top of all that, the gameplay is fast, challenging and engaging. Like the typical Gacha grind is fun because you get to play the fun Nier Automata-like video game (and as an aside, those characters are actually in the game - it's sick how their inspirational source material collaborated with them). Honestly, as much as I want them to get more recognition, I think its relative anonymity has worked in its favor to an extent - the devs are pretty humble and actually care about making a good game, listening to the fanbase and interacting with them, instead of just caring about making money and being so popular that they can do basically whatever they please with zero real repercussions -like Genshin-. And after hearing the other tracks they released for the CN version (which is like years ahead of global), I'm only more pumped to see what's in store - and at least to see what you think about their music. VGSS just don't miss, and they do all kinds of crazy genres and mashups of styles for different events and characters. A grindy, distorted electronic track that sounds like it'd fit right in Doom Eternal? Check. What sounds like a track from a Gundam/Evangelion OST? Yep. What can only be described as 'Gospel EDM'? Yes, and as weird as it sounds on paper it's sick. A Bloodborne-style operatic/electronic anthem of unknowable evil? Sure, why not. A children's musical toy's song being warped into an anxiety-inducing, dark-sounding boss theme? Boy is it unsettling, but good. A weirdly upbeat (for the normal dour and dire post-apocalyptic undertones of the story), but nevertheless groovy song celebrating summer break? Well, that one isn't from the future, but it's pretty dang catchy! Not to oversell the game or build up unrealistic expectations, but they really don't advertise their awesome game enough... so I'll happily do it for them lmao. The only big 'strike' is that the game isn't on PC (yet, they're working on it though) so you either have to play it on a phone or emulator (the latter of which can be unstable, as it tends to be). But once it hits PC I'd definitely recommend checking it out!

Thanks for the brilliant lesson, and commentary of course. btw, your german is on point. I am proficient in german to a degree but my pronunciation is nowhere near that good. I would like to point out something of interest regarding the EDM part of the song. it seems to be a re-arrangment of the track "Wraith" which was used during the first event that focused on the character that appears in the video you watched. during her first event Selena, the character in question, had mostly the role of a victim of tragedy and fate. on this new event she is taking back control of her life so the change in pace and order of phrases in the melody from the original track might be symbolic of her making her own decisions over the cards she was dealt. Regarding why the german. PGR as many modern games borrows ideas from classical literature for its own story. it seems to have a particular fondness for Norse Mythology, in fact, the "gray raven" in its very name seems to be a reference to the myth of Odin's two crows, this is reforced by the game's heavy thematical focus on the concepts of "mind" and "memory"

One thing i really like about this specific OST by VGS is i can enjoy classical and medieval themed music and i often play fantasy game that use this particular feel to it ( i am not a musician and nor do i practice any instrument), and it is classic and great. I was about to go to bed... It's 1 AM but i just HAVE to watch this... (I have to be up for work at 7...) It's interesting that you mention the flute as a weapon - because that's exactly what it is for this character! She will sing and dance and use musical notes (You can even hear them play in game) to attack, her first "form" is "Tempest (Lightning Attribute) " and uses a chello, where she will attack with the bow, but the patch that this song is from introduces a new form called "Capriccio" (Dark Attribute) where she instead uses the flute, she will play it and twirl and dance around but will also have a magic blade come out of the end of it that she uses to attack! Seleena is an AMAZING character the more you look into it, and I can't wait to see what weapon they give her next time! Maybe a violin that she will use like a greatsword??? This song also really makes me want to go to an Orchestra but there aren't any where I live so I have to travel to see one and it's expensive... Been thinking of getting into Vinyl!

Regarding integrating classic poetry into modern music styles, I'd recommend looking up the album God of Love by Stereo Alchemy. It was a collaboration between Shoji Kameda and Christopher Tin (of Civ 4 and 6 menu theme fame) reinventing various renaissance/Romantic poems as lyrics for electronic music. Really cool and fascinating stuff.

The Echo Aria theme is the theme of Selena's "Tempest" frame, this one is the theme of her "Capriccio" frame (bit confusing, yeah) which isn't out for global as far as I know We'll probably get this theme in game when she comes out which, knowing global, will probably take about a year and a half :T

Well PGR's more f2p friendly than anyother games I mean I can get every new rank S character without wasting a single dollar just open game and grind events to get BC it's not that time consuming really you can do it in less than 10-30 mins depends on what you would play event or mode

The lady potrayed( selena), has also another soundtrack called "wraith". This sound track came before "Sie Liebten Sich Beide", and potrays her first chapter( echo aria). Its really good, the way horror was potrayed in the BGM really breathtaking(pun intended).
