Very good point about elements played individually. It's all about how everything sounds when played together. I used to get so frustrated when soloing drums or something and it didn't sound the way I wanted it to, but in context of the beat it was fine. That shit bothered me for so long.. til I realized.. who cares? I'm making beats, not stems. It's crazy how you become your own worst critic, sometimes to the point it becomes detrimental to your growth and progress as an artist.
@peterpiper08154 жыл бұрын
Same here. IMO it depends on the role of the drums and of course the arrangement. If I want to let the drums play solo for 1 or 2 bars they should sound good but If there are always other elements well.....who cares.

I’m pretty sure the ‘clicks’ he is shifting are the 96 parts per 1/4-note that MPC’s quantization is based on. In other words, 3/96th’s of a quarter note.

Hey Marco, Great video, it's always good to see people still rocking the old waves stuff. I think I've been using L3 for at least a decade probably more! You were talking about beats being loud and in your face but I was wondering how loud exactly you're talking about in LUFS. Since the entire song would be mastered all over again once you have a rapper on top of it, do you have a specific loudness that you're trying to hit when you make beats?
@MarcoPoloBeats4 жыл бұрын
I just make sure the L2 aint squashing the life out of the beat. I could tell you threshold and ratio #'s but i just listen. ears > technical shit.
@forwardslashbeats30914 жыл бұрын
@@MarcoPoloBeats I think I come at it from a different angle. I use the metering inside of Cubase to tell me what the output loudness is over the track. I'm usually aiming for a pre master loudness of -15 integrated LUFS. I can almost always get to that with just a touch of L3 on the master channel. The way I look at it, if I can't get to that loudness without sounding like the beat is squashed/distorted then there must be something wrong with the mix itself so I have to fix it there. I used to play in a metal band so my ears are pretty shot by this point though and I live in a rented apartment which is basically one big bass trap. I think because of this, I trust my own ears less and trust what meters are telling me more!
