my Dad Col. Telesforo L. Umali, Philippine Military Academy class 1943, as a USAFFE veteran, was one of the World war 2 heroes who fought in Bataan, walked the Death march , incarcerated in Capas Tarlac, and almost died of dysentery but escaped imprisonment to liberate the towns of Laguna where he comes from. He recalled the fact that the Americans did not give us just compensation for a war that was not ours, it was a war of America and the allied powers against the Axis powers Japan, Italy and Germany. Many Filipinos suffered and died and most of our cities and infrastructure destroyed, and Pres. Marcos was right in his words that we Filipinos were not given due recognition. Even now, Filipinos are treated like "little brown brothers" and treated as second class citizens who immigrated to the United States. It is probably time for us to stand up on our own and maybe ally with our next door neighbours in Asia like China and work out a close cooperation in instilling peace prosperity and progress for Filipinos.
