After going through videos about MLK, Malcolm X, Nelson Mandela and Haile Selassie, and seeing Marcus Garvey mentioned in every one of them, I just gotta check this guy out. Garvey to the African diaspora: "if we all go back to the motherland we won't be exploited anymore!" Colonized Africans: "um yeah, about that..."

Gravey was not flawed, he was the most powerful, forward thinking and greatest global leader the black world has ever seen. If the United states government had not chomped up false charges against him no tell what great heights he could have led Blacks to achieve. No one not even Malcolm X or MLK has done more for Black empowerment than the Right Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey.

There was nothing controversial about Gravey, there was no contradiction everyone knew where he stood and what he stood for; neither did he appoint himself president of Africa. The delegates at the 1920 convention voted him President-General of the "Africa for Africans" movement. The idea was not to rule Africa but to setup a nation in Africa where if so choose Blacks globally could return to Africa to have a country to call their own.

Garvey WAS flawed. So was King. So was Malcolm X. So are ANY individuals who aspired or aspire to attain something greater. What it underscores is that "great" men and women are HUMAN...this fact makes their strides more remarkable, not less. Further, it supports a very real premise - it is not necessary to be a god or superhero...ANYONE can overcome flaws WE ALL HAVE to achieve remarkable things. Putting people on pedestals, attempting to intimate that they were endowed with superhuman qualities, compromises the ability to fully appreciate how they overcame tremendous difficulties, can lead to not appreciating how truly difficult were the challenges they faced. Getting angry about that comment in the video is very misplaced. Understandable, but misplaced. These people did not walk on water. They had to do it the hard way...and did it anyway. Think about it.

According to this article in a Masonic Journal: "During the final four years of his life, Garvey turned even more emphatically toward the Masonic ideal based on secret knowledge. With the defeat of Ethiopia in the Italo-Ethiopian War of 1935.... Garvey revised dramatically his previous estimates of what political movements alone could be expected to accomplish. Thus, he viewed as problematic the absence of "masonry in his [the Negro's] political ideals," noting that "there is nothing secret in what he is aiming at for his own hope of preservation." Garvey was alluding to the evolution of the fraternal idea from its earlier craft stage into a potent political vehicle, one based on the organization of secret revolutionary brotherhoods. From the start, the UNIA shared numerous features with fraternal benevolent orders. The UNIA's governing Constitution and Book of Laws held the same status and function as Freemasonry's Book of Constitutions and Book of the Law. The UNIA's titular "potentate" was clearly analogous to the "imperial potentate" of the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, or black Shriners. The High Executive Council of the UNIA and ACL reflected the Imperial Council of the black Shriners and the Supreme Council of Freemasonry in general. The elaborate and resplendent public displays by the UNIA, particularly during its annual conventions, drew upon the example of the black Shriners and other fraternal groups .... Other features shared with fraternal orders included solemn oaths and binding pledges, special degrees of chivalry (such as the Cross of African Redemption, Knight of the Sublime Order of the Nile, and Knight of the Order of Ethiopia)

@@escapebabylon2766 No, he wasn't... The Hon. Marcus Garvey never said that he was a Mason and he never promoted Freemasonry in any of his teachings. If he was a Mason.... then J. Edgar Hoover of the Beuru of Investigation wouldn't have sent an Agent (J.J. Wormely) to infiltrate his organization... If Marcus Garvey was a Mason...The Government wouldn't have hired Black men to sabotage his Black Star Line ships, If Marcus Garvey were a mason...then W.E.B. Dubois would've helped him instead of hating on him. If Marcus Garvery were a Mason then, he wouldn't have gotten arrested and imprisoned on no trumped up charges... If Marcus Garvey were a Mason they (the Masons would've helped him) Instead of deporting him.
