The bass clarinet is so underrated sometimes, and it kills me to see that it is a dying instrument. Less and less are being played everyday, and to watch this video I don't see why. The bass clarinet sounded so smooth, so relaxing, and so soft to the ears. I hope this performance by Marcus Miller showed how versatile this instrument really is and persuade more people to play or replay this instrument. -From A Bass Clarinetist

I bought a new Buffet 1193 for $4800 in 2003. They now sell for $11,000. I could sell my 15-year old horn for more than I paid for it. The prices are outrageous. And maintaining a top-of-the-line BC isn't cheap either.

I am an Oboe player and I have a Howarth LXV oboe that costs around $10,000 dollars and it is still a widely used instrument, plus a cheap oboe will never make the cut if you play in a proper orchestra so I don't think the price is the issue here. I don't know too much about the clarinet but it might be because it lacks its place in genres as it was never an iconic instrument in a specific era in music.

This is the first time hearing Alex Han and he is blowing me away as I write this. The guy is a true monster. OMG those arpeggios at 6:00 are unbelievable. And Marcus makes that BC sing like the greatest bird ever. I love him.

This young guy is amazing!!! I'm glad I've found this version, as a fixing experience for the other version where Miller brought that blew up egotrip baloon called Dave Sandborn. This guy is a much better choice!!! He smokes on that alto, for heavens sake!! He's only 22 y/o!!
