Funny thing about the Amygdala name, in the Japanese translation, the name of the boss is Amandoze, which correlates with the English word for almond, and when the localisation team were working on translating the name of the boss, they didn't want to call it an almond because who would be threatened by an almond? So they used the Greek work for almond, Amygdala, which became poetic since the amygdala is the part of the brain that controls fear. Just a fun coincidence. Edit: forgot to mention: the Amygdala in the brain is called the Amygdala because it is shaped like an almond. So yeah.

Yes, though it would still be massively heavy and wouldn’t neatly retract without a lot more springs and pulleys, it’s less of a whip than a Chinese meteor hammer, albeit with extra heads (that would hurt if they hit, but not that much, and slow down the actual swing too much). The trick weapons in Bloodbourne were created with a dual-purpose in mind. Most of these weapons in lore, were created to defend against the ongoing beast curse outbreak, and the angry mobs lobbying for blood from the churches. Thus, the churches created weapons that can combat both MEN and BEAST. Hence, the usual dramatic shift in size and/or function. Take for example, Ludwig's Holy Blade. A simple sword meant for man at first, however, when sheathed it become a great sword capable of taking down things MUCH larger in size. The weapon even hints at it in the description. Something like "the greatsword was for taking down foes of a inhuman size".

@Unit-3D2 жыл бұрын
The Ludwig's Holy Blade actually does Blunt damage in its Tricked form aside from its thrusting Heavy Attack, so it's basically a stylized version of the idea you brought up a minute earlier of a sword with a tetsubo sheath. Why does it exist, then, if it's functionally the same as the Kirkhammer aside from still having a Thrust damage attack in its two-handed form? Well, the Kirkhammer is a dedicated Strength-scaling weapon, while the LHB is the best "Quality" weapon in the game going by raw scaling, and also one of the best Arcane-scaling weapons in the game, if you want to stick elemental damage gems on it. I defer to your expertise here, but I think that kinda tracks with their design, with the concentrated mass of the Kirkhammer needing more heave to get moving, while the more evenly distributed weight of the LBH benefiting from more skillful application. Also, while the Stake Driver can readily be compared to a katar or pata, I think its charged attack specifically draws more from the idea of a captive bolt gun used to humanely slaughter animals, which is kind of a stroke of thematic genius. It's a little hard to tell exactly how it's being employed under the fire and smoke, but simply pressing or punching it against a target and then firing the charge would probably be more effective than firing it as part of a thrusting attack.

Funny thing about the Rakuyo and Reiterpallasch is that they come from the Cainhurst nobility, which definitely fits in with the quirky rich people thing. Also with the Kirkhammer, the hammer head is literally a stone tombstone that they used for symbolic purposes, which makes it even worse since it'd be heavier and more prone to breaking! But with the way normal whips work, wouldn't the threaded cane still work due to just moving really fast, like whips do? I'd imagine most of the weapons damage comes from a few edges that do actually connect, and the rest from the whips speed. Just a speculation but I'm a threaded cane enjoyer so I must at least try to put my piece in lol.
@cruesteanmonarch70322 жыл бұрын
Usually the part of a whip that does the most damage is closer to the end. Combat whips did infact exist, however they were usually shorter and had metal or thick knots on the end. If the cane was shorter and the blades were more of at the end only it'd be much more functional. Hope that helped.
@fly1ngG0PHER2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it would go all that fast unfortunately; whip ends only move fast because they’re flexible elements that taper from thick at the hand to thin at the tip, amplifying slow motion of the hand to fast motion at the end, and having teeth would nullify that on its own. Threaded Cane looks equally thick all the way down, held together with braided steel wires, so it would handle much differently (plus, there is no way that you could make it a rigid cane afterwards without heavy or fragile locking features on each tooth and like a thousand pounds of tension keeping it from flopping on hit)

@NEETKitten2 жыл бұрын
I'd like to point out that most weapons in Bloodborne are designed for ripping and tearing flesh, as opposed to making clean cuts. Stuff like the Threaded Cane, for example, are designed to get embedded in your opponent's flesh and tear the affected area apart as they try to break free. The same goes for the cleaver-type weapons (or really any serrated weapon). You get one good hit in, and then watch them struggle to unbury the weapon from their flesh as they slowly bleed to death. Now, they don't work like that in-game because the game is too fast-paced for that kind of weapon to be portrayed accurately, but that's the lore reason for why a lot of weapons are designed so weirdly. And yeah, they may not work too great in a full-scale fight, but they're great for duels or skirmishes with smaller groups of enemies. And as for the hinges being a weak point, they're stated to be one of the most heavily-reinforced parts of the weapon. So it'll take a lot more than just a few sword swings or a mace to break them.
@gerald2508 Жыл бұрын
If you do not drain the beasts of blood and burn their bodies then they will recover a short while later, hence why the weapons are serrated (or super-heavy because breaking their bones also works).

It is worth mentioning in regards to your critique of the Rakuyo, being based in the idea that it is a rapier or primarily thrusting weapon, is that it's much more accurate to claim the larger blade as a katana or something very comparable to one. As it in lore shares a connection to the Chikage, a weapon that is very definitely a katana. This is seen in the first line of it's description: "A trick sword originated in the same country as the Cainhurst Chikage, only this sword feeds not off blood, but instead demands great dexterity."
@therighttrousers3432 жыл бұрын
I think you could use the Bloodletter's transforming size to great benefit, it does use your own blood to transform-maybe it *could* use an enemy's in real world, so to say? But I can see it being used to stab through yourself to launch a surprise stab at an enemy, like how in game its transform attack is, if I remember right. But I can also see picking up an enemy, or their corpse, angling the thrust so that the head is aimed upwards, or vertically in some way, and letting the spiky mass drop. Or having a variant on a human shield, where you push your corpse as a shield with a huge spiky mass carving up the floor in front, and then just undo the transformation when you need manoeuvrability. Could do that in response to a cavalry charge, I think

Not useless, just hard to use since all that weight is basically hanging in front of my hand. Major points for being scary, mind you. I saw that movie. It's a very enjoyable b-flick through I don't remember Beowulf using his sword as a club, but it been a long time since I heave seen it.

The amygdalan arm is my favorite of the trick weapons honestly. Add a way for the blade not to bend backwards when you're swinging and it could be serviceable

My idea on a Boom Hammer style weapon is to make the head a pressure plate that triggers a pressurized release of oil, then when you do a hit with it lit, you can light things on fire.

I'd like to add to the saw cleaver/spear/saif - in addition to the hinge being a weak point, in the saw form your fingers are dangerously close to the inside blade. If that hinge gives, all your fingers are gonna get chopped off instantly.

Love how you didn't even mention the stake driver because of how ridiculous it is

Dont forget: for the saw cleaver, spear, and saif; there is a blade infront of your fingas. One slip and your flesh grippers are gone.

My dad has a weedwhacker he modified so he could put circular saw blades on it. He says that he uses it for shrubs and denser patches of overgrowth, but I haven't ruled out him fighting elder gods yet
@10hawell Жыл бұрын
12:10 - this is 100% real, you take your weed whacker you buy Circular Saw attachment and you thake circular saw of your choosing. Then it's only bigger saw = bigger weed whacker = more expensive endeavour for just a murder play thing.

With the Boomhammer, there looks to be a kind of percussive cap or a hammer similar to a firearm that forces the fire out on impact

7:16 you’d probably have to have something to keep the hilt in place, otherwise it could slide off, or even be pulled off by your opponent. Maybe a strap or licking mechanism.

As for the Stake Driver, it's functionality entirely comes down to the timing of the user. The way you make full use of this weapon, as I see it, would _not_ be to fire off the pile driver _as_ you were punching, but instead fire it off _immediately after._ So your Katar-style punch would make contact, hopefully piercing the enemy, then before they have the chance to react, you pull the trigger, driving the stake further into them with the explosive force only a machine could muster. That sort of potentially devastating attack would make the weight and complexity worth the extra encumbrance, in my opinion. Sure, it may not be easy to pull off, but even without that aspect, pulling the trigger instantly extends (or shortens) the reach of your weapon, even mid swing/punch. I feel like that sort of unpredictably would be extremely useful. It also switches the weapon from a punch dagger / katar to what is effectively a pata, right?

I mean, most of the Hunter's. workshop weapons are made to hunt beasts, so it makes sense that edge alignment isn't too important when your foe is a raging animal, despite the fact that the edges are saw-like and can make huge tears through muscle. Although the mechanism would be a weakness, the weapons seem to be made of wood or metal, so no surprise they would break if you hit them with something more sturdy. And the big weapons are designed to hunt giant lovecraftian gods so... i mean, we don't have those. But we did use greatswords and big hammers, so it's not too big of a stretch to just equate them to those.
