Another outgrowth of COVID lockdown that I haven't heard you mention before (but I might have missed it): Front Porch Concerts! As you might guess, local musicians really struggled during the lockdown. A number of them either: 1) Moved to Texas, Mississippi, Alabama or somewhere else that wasn't as restrictive as New Orleans in order to find work; 2) Desperately tried to hold on by using savings, help of family/friends and hope it would end soon; 3) started performing "Porch Concerts" here in town. Porch Concerts were pop-up gig sites, which happened and are happening all over the city. They are often held at the home of a friend or family member of a working musician, with no license, permits, etc. Many even sold food and drinks made on the spot. We had several Front Porch Concerts at our house on Constantinople St, just off St Charles. Our experience was that the great majority of New Orleans' citizens appreciated these events, and tipped accordingly. Porch concerts have continued even after the pandemic has eased, despite the fact that the Mayor's office tried to get in on the action by requiring that anyone hosting such an event would be required to have a "COVID protocol," (whatever that is) AND pay a fee of one $100-$500 dollars. Most people simply ignored these attempts by the city to take control of (and raise revenue from) Front Porch concerts, including us. I hope they continue, and plan to do my part in support. facebook.com/william.robinson.9400/videos/329825062409010

How long will the homes be decorated for? I will be there next week. Thanks
@andrewfarrier19373 жыл бұрын
There should still be some around then! The houses decorated through Hire a Mardi Gras Artist/Krewe of Red Beans (last house in this video and about 30 others) are supposed to stay up through the end of the month. Krewe of House Floats participants agree to remove their decorations by March 1st, but I can guarantee you that plenty of them will want to keep things festive for a while. This is just a guess, but I'd expect the ones on this route to come down relatively early - Kern Studios, which installed many of them, has the people power to take things down fast, and they'll probably want to get their creations back in out of the rain ASAP.
