ROM 5:12 is MUCH better than you described it. It is actually way better than Wormwood! Also, you didn't give enough credit to World Funeral, and completely missed pinpointing it's very few bad parts and failed to understand good parts. Additionally, you didn't mention the significance of the trifecta of Nightwing-Panzer-LaGrande them being a nod to Bathory's "philosophy of metal" that it should be about Blood-Fire-Death!

Marduk, probably the BM band I have seen live the most. The first time was on their Opus Nocturne tour, yes I am that old. That was also the first and last time they played songs from Dark Endless live. Their best preformance was the 25 year anniversary show of Those Of The Unlight. The played that whole album in consecutive order and finished it off with the whole Panzer Division album.

If you are in to more of a old school black metal, that doesn't mean that you have to overrate old era albums and redicule ones that you dislike based on your "old school mark". Personally I don't like early Marduk (not entirely) and I am not alone, we are a legion and we like Rom 5:12

ROM 5:12 is mortuus best vocal performance IMO , and i think most people would agree on that, instead of 7 layers of guitar it's pretty much one track, it's stiped down to basic and pure black metal, if you like a wall of guitars look for some other genres to listen to, i would say that it's their most flavor-full album with seriously awesome guitar riffs, bass riffs and drum parts, they show that they are great musicians on this album IMO. Less personal oppinions when it comes to making a video about a bands history whould look so much more professional, just saying.

Awesome Marduk documentary..I love Marduk..My favorite vocalist is definitely Legion. To me he was so good, and also an amazing stage performer. I do love all of the albums old and newer though..To me they are one of the best black metal bands..Funny thing is, I love the variety on "La Grande Danse Macabre". I don't view an occasional slow down with melody as weakness. I do love your retrospective though..I do love the newer stuff too with Mortuus as well, but my favorite period were the Legion years and before, though I love it all including Mortuus..

Personally i loved Legion era Marduk but still enjoy post legion stuff a lot. I do have to say tho Mortuus singing Legion era songs live always sounds a bit strange to me. I guess if legion sang Mortuus era songs live it would sound strange as well :D Yeah, we have some REAL FUCKING EXPERTS on Encyclopedia Metallum LOL. You know those who rate BM bands and review records based on some old 90's kvlt and trve movement bullshit. Music is art and there are different forms and blends of it. What is a point of hating a band, if you dont like a band find another one and forget about the ones you dont like instead of always talking about them. Its like people who hate Dimmu Borgir, they hate them so much but cant stop talking about them. And hell yeah i'll say it, not a big Dimmu fan but i really did enjoy last Dimmu record. Crisp and polished with great orchestra, everything is audible and clean. Nothing wrong with that, im not gonna hate it just because it doesnt sound like early Emperor or Satanic Warmaster production wise. It has clean production because its suits the style of music its made around. The beauty, if you want to say it that way, of following a band is up and downs with albums you like and dislike :) Also shame that Legion is out of Black Metal all together, respect him for staying away from metal politics and beef.

Fair enough. i think most people hate them because music they make become big which seems not to be allowed in traditional BM. Its not like they have control over that haha. I mean traditional BM will never go away so other bands can experiment and blend. In reality most bands just copied Bathory with their own touch and later bands copied those bands with their own touch, after all there is only one original and everyone takes from that :)

Hating something because it's popular is the dumbest, most hipster thing someone could do. By that logic, they should hate Bathory and Mayhem as well. I just don't like the direction that Dimmu Borgir went in after Devil's Path, I feel like their early material is damned near flawless. Though to be fair to them, they did change their logo when the changed musically, so I can't say the band didn't warn me that I might not like their new stuff.

The critic here is completely "?????", you can have own personal taste (or lack of taste) for some albums but srsly, Rom/Wormwood and Serpent Sermon were EPIC masterpieces, idk how someone claiming as fan can't see that. Mortuus has best vocal ever, he sounds amazing and all songs are made super cool way, are diverse and interesting, very climatic too. Some people claim only "old is good" because they can't understand every band has constant progress and something must change because people and their skills, even the technic are changing too. That's cool though, stagnation at level of first albums would be boring. Not saying of course, the old were bad, but I personally prefer Marduk since Mortuus joined. He added the real satanic athmosphere and aggressive energy. They sound amazing since.

I'm surprised you dont like Rom 5:12 or Wormwood. I was shocked when those albums came out with the vocal style. Very different from all the other black metal vocalists out there. Mortuus saved that band in a way. It gave them something new to work with. Legion was great too. He always sounded like his voice was gonna crack out on him which i love that in him. Jocke Gothberg and Andreas Axelsson were great also. Andreas was more recognized in Edge of Sanity playing guitar. Jocke did vocals on my favorite album Those of the Unlight.

Ok my man, a few things here....You chose to do a retrospective of a religious black metal band and you focus on production instead of the words. You missed the point from the start. I Morgan's own words black metal is about religion, not about vocals or guitar sound. What made Legion era Marduk not so good, is that Legion just screams the lyrics, Mortuus uses his voice in a way that fits the lyrical theme and makes the prayers come to life. That "vomiting vocal style" is not a vocal style, read the words of the prayers written on Wormwood and you'll hopefully understand why he sounds that way. If you are not a Satanist or don't care about religion then i really don't understand the point of listening to them. No offense meant by that, i'm just confused. It would be like an atheist going to Church cause he likes the atmosphere....You can do it but you wont get much out of it.

I like all of their albums personally. Their whole discography is great. Phosphorus Redeemer To Redirect Perdition when those clicked it seemed like I got rom 5 12 somehow after that? I loved serpent sermon from when it first came out. Into second death was a grower at first but that album is insane. Always loved World Funeral and La Grande Danse Macabre.

Hi there. Well done the Marduk documentary. I know them since, maybe 1993 or '94. I've listened to many black metal bands and,maybe, Marduk is one of the good ones, with many many good releases. BTW, the song "Dracul va domni din nou in Transilvania" translates correctly (from romanian) as "the devil will rule again in Transylvania". So, just in theory is not related 100% to Vlad The Impaler Dracula. Anyway, I know that every westerner associates Dracula with Transylvania and with evil things, the historic truth is that he was a ruller (let's say king) of a part of Romania and he was christian, so nothing evil there. Anyway, everybody loves this legend of Dracula so, for us the romanians, there's a good promotion...

I dont agree with your opinion on ROM 5:12, which is fine since I dont care whether you like it or not, but spot on with the last commentary segment. A shame though only very few come to this realisation

I appreciate the videos. However every Marduk fan could definitely tell the change between Legion and Mortus as soon as Plague Angel begins. Also, how can you be cool with Christraping God's Planet but then say, "Sodomizng" is going too far? LOL.All I know if you love Black Metal and do not like Marduk, you are foolish. I like the videos however Swedish names are not hard to pronounce and could very much do without the opinions just tell the bands story and let the listener decide what they do and do not like. However I appreciate the videos very much so and MARDUK is amazing.

what really matters is those of the unlight for a fresh sound,fresh experience,new kind of music,new kind of 'black metal' and serpent sermon a fcking great change,awsome riffs ,superior kind of music,breathtaking power,awesome concept something rly new for marduk,that is how a black metal album must be,the rest is just background noise,same guitars same screams,same drums,same noise,and now back again with the same noise now called viktoria
