Listening to this on 3/8/23, which happens to be “International Women’s Day.” I don’t think Lady Margaret Beaufort is a “wicked woman” at all. I think she did what she needed to do to survive and keep her son safe. I truly admire her. Thanks for this!

If you would like to hear an example of a powerful woman's name raised over and over in order to criticize her and you don't mind that the woman being criticized is Phillipa Gregory, you will love this presentation.

Thank u for changing my overall opinion of her and giving her back the credit for what she achieved in her own right for being a survivor in a time where women were a walkin womb their opinions ment nothing, as well as for her dynasty also for so much info on her as a person I had no idea she liked purfune or fine dining or card games and chess wow 😀. The Tudor period is my fave period in history I've really enjoyed this conversation about Margaret what I think is most remarkable is that people are still benefiting from her benolovence like at university ad the care she took of of her workers and grandchildren

It was NOT a "usurpation", & yes, royalty lodged in the Tower *without* it being a prison.

I feel like she doesn't have to be remembered as good or bad. We all have both aspects of our character that allows us to be wicked and charitable. Sometimes in the same day. She could easily have been a wonderful grandmother and made of steel when it came to protecting those grandchildren from harm or ruin. She can be lovely and a shewolf. I try to be both.

@@silkoakranchpitchforkranch1205 No one is all good or bad. We are all capable of bearing bad fruit. It's only through grace that we bear any good fruit at all.

I don't know what it is but Phillipa Gregory seems to have a grudge against the Tudors except for Queen Mary and Margaret Tudor.

Tudors reputation was irretrivebly damaged by Henri the 8, and the Tudors obviosly was very " difficult" social climbers, even if Elisabeth the I reign , was in comperhence with many Kings and Queens of England great, her succsess was not due so much to her Elisabeth the I own actions or decisions , rather she had much luck . Old Bess laid the Tudors lineage to rest. No harm done as I am concerned.

She said in an interview that Elizabeth Woodville was her favorite queen.

@@123bgmiller I don't think you needed to read an interview with her to get that.

She seems to have a grudge against ambitious women in general in her books, but it’s hard for me to say confidently if that reflects her personal opinion or is a poorly nuanced depiction of the sexual politics of the time.

Yep totally agree. She sounds like she almost hates Elizabeth. Very sympathetic to Mary.
