You dont have to keep them seperate. I do all three in every book I make. I writed down thoughts or something that happens. I save tickets, pictures in same book. I sit down and draw, paint,sew add papers, fearhers etc. put a sample of a new technique in it. I make books for holidays and only put stuff for those holidays in those books. Some contain 5 years for that holiday in the same book. Its your book. Do what you like in it!

Good information, thank you. Regarding the orientation of your Japanese text, I use text from various languages that don’t rely on the Latin alphabet, and I never worry about which direction they face. That’s because I use them as graphic elements rather than written language. I do the same with bits of English text (and numbers) as well. Backwards, forwards, up, down, doesn’t matter. I’m looking at the characters as shapes. Funny story: I recently completed a collage using a portion of a Japanese newspaper as part of the background. After it was all done, an acquaintance told me a portion of the text was an ad for constipation relief. 😂

Yes. Thank you so much for this. ❤ For the sake of ease of describing my paper crafts to friends and family, I'm just going to call it all "collage journaling" because that will make more sense to them than "gluebook" and it describes the intent of my craft on a given day. Craft stores are great for papers, especially the scrapbook aisle, always check the bargain bins, also websites like stationerypal have a lot of thin papers, stickers / sticker flakes, washi etc for very inexpensive if you have a specific theme or style in mind!

And yes with scrapbooks, At first I thought they were more like a home made photo album with specific layouts etc, and the therevis the really old fashioned kind when you just chuck anything you like in. Glue here is really expensive. Bostik, blue glue sticks with the green lizard is about $4Au. Per stick, i also like to buy pva glue in bulk as it works out more economical. Also love double sided tape for plastic stuff. Im always finding pattern papers in thrifted magazines. This a very useful video. Thanks so much. Happy crafting ❤🇭🇲

I have a question. So I found an old somewhat unused notebook that I decorated with papers and little trinket things I found lying around in my home on to, and I also make it a daily journal of sorts by putting receipts, wrappers, dried flowers, essentially physical memories of that day so that I can keep it all in one journal. I called it a junk journal because I was inspired by videos of junk journaling to do mine, and these things and the decorations on it were essentially junk lying around in my home, but now I'm not sure. Is it actually a scrapbook? Was it a scrapbook all this time? 😲 I'm new to this hobby but I enjoy it a lot. Love your videos they're so informative!

Thank for taking the time to explain everything so well. Now I know that my journal is definitely not a glue book. Junk journal - uncertain - as I create a page and no 2 are alike and it is definitely not a sticker journal. I'm a cardcrafter and are using my dies, paper and stamps to create the journal page - still confused - but it is quiet 'me' time.

Thanks Margarete. I'm a new subscriber and I love your instructional videos! Question regarding the Japanese text on the spine: if you don't read/understand non-Roman alphabets, since you are using these texts as a design element, does it matter to you if they are right side up or upside down?

I try to use text right side up when I can't read the alphabet, because it does feel respectful. I look for numbers to help me decide the paper orientation. But I frequently put scraps upside down when I can read them, so my eye is less likely to be caught by a random word. It makes sense for me.

Here is my take on that topic xD please, dont take it as an attack, just sharing thoughts. Tbh i think this "rules" about names are unnecessary. You also could make a junk journal out of a weekly planer. There is no junk journal police thats going to tell you what you should call your journal project or what you use in it. Most projects will be a mix anyway. I get it, its nice sometimes to have a name for everything. But i think it would be better to teach: "do what you want, without pressure and judgment from others. Dont let yourself get bothered by naming conventions. Here are some examples of doing a creative journal: use an old book, make a book from scraps, use a theme, dont use a theme, do art in it, dont do art in it, just glue stuff in, keep memories etc." For some people its about the process, but nor for all. For some, creating a junk journal is higly emotional and private, for others its just a beautiful diary that they bought. Others use only junk to create a piece, others use everything. What would you call a journal using a real cover but selfmade signatures? Is it a altered book? Is it a junk journal? I dont know why i went on a rant haha xD but it was not ment to be aggressive:) Happy weekend to everyone:)
@MargareteMiller4 ай бұрын
Which topic? I covered several. And xD? I don’t understand so I can’t be offended or not offended 🙃 I’m not defining rules. People ask questions. They have been asking hundreds of questions, often the same one repeatedly. “What is a gluebook”. I’ve taken the time in this video to explain. I’m not creating some rigid structure of my own definitions.

I started using junk journals as glue books when I discovered that I don't enjoy journaling. But the options for glue books are endless: I've used appliance manuals, vacation brochures, index cards, children's books, post cards, soft cover recipe books, alteration tickets, old calendars. I "bind" the loose papers with 1-inch circle rings or staples. The beauty of it is to use what you find, and always remember that it's yours and you're creating for your own happiness. There are no rules.
