Awesome tape by one of my favorite NA speakers who is a woman with one heck of a story. Margie is a wonderful example of the program of Narcotics Anonymous and she tells her story in a way that everyone can relate to. This tape is a treat, especially for newcomers, as she does a great job outlining the principles of the program. GREAT share!
"Narcotics Anonymous (NA) describes itself as a "fellowship or society of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem" following the Twelve Steps and the Twelve Traditions developed by Alcoholics Anonymous, and it is the second-largest 12-step organization.
As of May 2010 there were more than 58,000 NA meetings in 131 countries.
Because no attendance records are kept, it is impossible to estimate what percentages of those who come to Narcotics Anonymous remain active in NA over time. The only sure indicator of the program's success in attracting members is the rapid growth in the number of registered Narcotics Anonymous meetings in recent decades and the rapid spread of Narcotics Anonymous outside North America.
In 1978, there were fewer than 200 registered groups in three countries.
In 1983, more than a dozen countries had 2,966 meetings.
In 1993, 60 countries had over 13,000 groups holding over 19,000 meetings.
In 2002, 108 countries had 20,000 groups holding over 30,000 meetings.
In 2005, 116 countries had over 21,500 groups holding over 33,500 weekly meetings.
In 2007, there were over 25,065 groups holding over 43,900 weekly meetings in 127 countries.
In 2012, there were over 62,700 meetings worldwide in over 142 countries" From Wikipedia

Margie: Thank you so much for your talk. Through the miracle of the internet I have it permanently saved on my laptop and get to listen to it. I've listened to your talk many times because it's so inspiring and a testament to the fact people can drastically change their lives for the better and live a life that is unimaginable while they were using drugs.. God Bless You Margie you're a remarkable woman!

I hadn't heard a n.a. story in years so I checked KZbin and stumbled across yours. I've never heard it before, maybe 5 minutes once.Though we only spent a couple times together, I felt I was there for much of it.I think it was the summer of 71. I was at DVI in the RGC doin a B-Z#. I was just getting out of the hole for fighting when Terry drove up. Cast on 1 leg and a brace on the other and a cane with a hole through his stomach. He told me in detail what happened. We were housed together in East Block and ate every meal together, every day, just me & him. They put us in station wagon after 90 days & took us back to SMCJ, just me & him. Then they took us to court together for sentencing. He got 2-10 or 1-15 can't recall, for a violation then would transfer him to SF to get sentenced for the robbery. I got 5-life for sales but sentence was suspended cause I had promise on paper, but had to do a year in the county. At the honor camp is where I met Greg Elarms, I think he was 21 then. The summer of 73 I got a letter from the hole in Quentin. Terry was there for murder. 2days later I woould run from the state to Utah with 5-life hanging. Never saw Terry again. U may not know, but I do got love for you, Margie. I've also got a picture of me and Deb sitting together from 72or 3. Never wrote on line ths way, hope it works

@@nomatterwhat94ify Hi Margie, Happy New Year, I noticed that u were looking for a new series to watch and that u liked Kingdom. I'm watching it lately and I found another that is pretty cool. U might have seen it as it is not new. If not, check out Yellowstone w' Kevin Costner. Louis Lamour on steroids. Stay well, I' bet that it's tough for a social butterfly like u. Regards, Todd
