It's because while they're "telegraphing" their attack by reeling back, the actual swing that you have to dodge is too fast to react to, and varies between different attacks. So until you watch them perform the attacks a number of times and get a feel for the timing, all you can do is guess.

The sad part is: After I beat the third main boss or so and finally started actually having fun, the game decided that me having fun will not do and cranked the pain level up EVEN MORE. I kinda had the same problem in Bloodborne: When the entire world is drenched in blood, and the markers where other players have died are pools of blood, then that pool of blood echoes kinda gets lost in all the other blood.

@@shatik3311 Generally speaking, I tend not to mess with boss rooms when I feel the rune loss would hurt me just a bit too much... but then there are the moments when "Geez, I died _five times_ during that stretch! I've actually got over 100,000 runes now! I better find a Grace **walks by a Stake of Marika w/o noticing** or at at very least a shortcut before-- ...why do I hear boss music? I didn't walk through a f*turns around, sees gigantic fog wall blocking the way back*ffffuck." Finding that mixed physique potion that saves your runes upon death has been keeping my regrets at bay ever since I first found it.

@@ZeroHelios46 I only worry about retrieving souls/echoes/runes when there's a lot of them, but I also have learned to just leave them if I decide it's not worth the risk. I lost 26k echoes to a red-eyed hunter in The Old Hunters DLC and I ended up just walking away because of how underleveled I was. That said, I lost nearly 37K to an undead amalgam abomination in Yahar'gul Unseen Village and was pissed about it. I did some echo farming just to level up and I usually don't do that, but I was so pissed at dying (from being an idiot) that I wanted to reward myself. I did the same when I lost a large amount in the Upper Cathedral Ward.

Beating Margit was an enlightening experience to be sure. After all the levels I had gained, and all of the new strategies I had found, the only way I could beat him was through patience and tolerance. After that, all it took was some parries and dodging, and boom - Margit was felled.

0:01 Sorcerer Rogier (a character that can be met in Stormveil) can be summoned for this fight. It's pretty easy to miss. At least it was to me. 0:05 Margit is basically the first BIG wall that a character is meant to face. That can be a problem. You have things in your inventory that are mostly useless outside of certain situations. Remember kids. Always manage your inventory before a boss. (And Rowa fruits are pretty useless anyway since Torrent can be healed with Crimson Flask) 0:29 Margit also has ranged attacks which is this light knife. You will learn to hate it as it interrupts your healing. 0:31 Forgetting to pick up your runes... I've been there. 0:34 If you plan to summon spirits do it fairly early on when Margit is far away or wait for a good moment to do it. Wont save you though. 0:45 Finally he noticed Rogier... Sadly he wont save you either. 0:48 basically the best strategy here is to take your time and explore the map before facing him. Level up, get better gear. Think of Margit as a bouncer to a club that will let you in if you are good enough to join. 0:55 But that wont save you either. 1:02 Patches can be found in Murkwater Cave and he sells Margit's shackle. You see... Margit is an Omen. A person shunned by society of Lands Between for whom were created these shackles to keep him at bay. You will learn more about it later on. What you NEED to know is that it can stun him... 1:15 It's pretty helpful... Also the jellyfish is a good spirit for this fight due to how tanky it is 1:18 But it works only 2 times and IIRC only in 1st phase so you guessed it... It wont save you anyway "What CAN save me?" you ask? Getting Gud.

Hammer slam and his double charge sweep attack are both easy, safe punishes even on heavy weapons. With faster weapons, a lot of him combos have long enough gaps to get a hit in during if you are fast enough(for example, you can get an attack in between his two sweeps on his gap closer, and then a charged attack after the second). TBH if you just run around baiting attacks until you get one of those two, the fight is kinda braindead, but he's hard if you get in close and play aggressively.

Maybe useful tip: bind your mana and health pots to triangle + left/right in the quick use menu. For me: up is my flask, left is mana pot, right is health pot, down is torrent. I don’t ever lose those then, and my scroll item bar is changed out depending on the fight with my lantern as Hold Up, slot 1. Then slot 2 is summon, then it’s what ever I need for the time and then it goes back in the bag. Keeps the bar clean and easy to navigate when someone’s kicking you in the face.

I found out about this item after finishing margit on 3 characters and already got so good in beating him i was like "wow... why does this exist?". Later i realised a lot of people played ER not as an open world game and started slamming themselves against Margit right at the beginning of the game over and over again. @@GGiggles I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I died to that bloody Tree Sentinel! Persistence, patience, a few hours won the battle in the end though! I think I figured out why people struggle and complain about “unresponsive controls”: * No animation cancelling * Input lag * Input queue ER is a *tactical* Hack N Slash. This means having the patience to read the mob’s telegraphs and THEN (counter) attack. Mindless button masher doesn’t work in bosses and will quickly get you killed. Once you commit to an attack you have to wait for the animation to finish playing. Other games you can spam attacks and the last attack will take priority.
