Margot Robbie plays infamous figure skater Tonya Harding in "I, Tonya," while Sebastian Stan plays Harding's nearly-as-infamous ex-husband Jeff Gillooly. I hope it's good, too. Unlike everybody participating in this discussion, Sebastian actually met the sociopath when he researched his role. I love Seb to pieces.The guy too sweet. I think one of the most difficult things to communicate about an abusive relationship is how you can love your abuser. Afterwards, other people want them to be a straightforward, horrible monster and maybe part of you even needs to remember them that way, at least for a while, in order to recover. But it's never that simple, and that's part of what hurts. Just because a person is hurting you, that doesn't mean they have stopped being a person... it's just that, at the same time, just because a person is a person doesn't give them the right to hurt you. Anyway, I loved that Jeff could be sort of lovable in an "I wish you could be better" sort of way but also someone I desperately wanted Tonya to get away from. It was honest.

Supporting cast was exceptionally good. Sebastian Stan, Paul Walter Hauser and-last but definitely not least-Allison Janney are as strong as Margot Robbie, so there’s not a minute of dead air in the whole movie.

Trivia: February 17, 1994, Nancy Kerrigan and Harding shared the ice at a practice session - Jan 6 1994 was the attack. So, Jeff Gillooly's character *seems* like he was absorbing all these 'triggering' negative vibes, and trying to not lose control in any situation. I mean (read wiki!) and see: He was 19. Then marries her at about 22? It was 1994s scenario. Relationship was mixed in with stress inducing/competitive talent. Misguided individuals in a love story? Sebastian Stan is perfect casting here.:)

Calitme Dion I mean it is a love story. It talks about Tonya’s and Jeff marriage. Not all love stories have a happy ending with Prince Charming carrying you bridal style. A lot of people in today’s world love story are very tragic and domestic. It’s good that this movie actually shows that and not ignore it.

that's what i was noticing the whole time. though it is a weird camera angle that's off center to begin with, her arms are in a self-comforting position, she barely looks at him, they are sitting an awkward distance apart, and whenever she moves it is always slightly away from him even if she is just leaning the other side or scooting further away. i don't think it is important, but it's probably just feeling awkward with seb's quieter personality and her general sunny disposition

You guys deleted my CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM? :P I finally found a site that allowed me to stream the film, and I stand by my original statements about how calling this flick a 'comedy' and a 'love story' is questionable. It was better than I thought it would be, tho. The story was true to the actual events, as I understand what happened (yes, I followed the Olympic coverage on the news as it was all happening in '92 through '94.) It had a Tarantino-esque feel about it, more of a crime caper than a romantic comedy. However, I still think it crossed a few lines. And I still think Jeff Gahooey is a lying sociopathic asshole. I always did and I always will. I also find it disturbing that so many people are suddenly changing their minds about Tonya. I never believed she had anything to do with the hit on Nancy. You also deleted the comment where I stuck up for her, long before I saw 'I Tonya' :P
