I think this has something to do with the lizard brain theory. That a person will always react in some way to the reference to the thing they want to keep secret. It has to do with our evolutionary instinct. We always react to danger no matter how subtle that reaction is. Ok, time to set the record straight. I once went to a Brian Brushwood show and got called up, chose one of several large books at random (books I had read multiple times), and picked a random word from a random page (I examined the book myself before choosing, it seemed legit). He knew what word it was, even though I kept the book close to my chest and only had it open to that page for a few seconds. After the show he found me and said "the audience was clapping, but you were the one who was amazed." Make no mistake, this is entirely possible without paid actors.
